I need to do the same thing on my 64’. I might try to get a good used one instead of a new repop one. Thanks for the lessons learned. Merry Christmas to you and the family.
The large hole to the right of the ashtray must have been enlarged to fit something else. It should be the manual choke nob. The hole below the radio cutout was also added.
Aha - ok, so my new motor doesn’t need a choke, and so I ended up putting a switch knob in the one below the radio, and a USB outlet in the one to the right of the ashtray - I even had to widen the hole for the USB even a bit more. Anyway, I am happy with the results - everything is used and seems normal, even though there are 2 extra holes
Probably, but I couldn’t figure it out. I had cut the original cable by accident. It seemed to be attached to the inside of the gauge…. Maybe someone else knows the answer to this…
Looking great!👌😎👍✌️
Thanks - I was so let down when my master brake cylinder was bad - had to drop another 80 bucks on a German master cylinder

You too - I wish I could have kept the metal housing - now that I know I might look more closely and get something to reuse it…

Is it possible to just replace the cable on the original gauge?

I have 3 sets of Head Light Bezels (65 Bug)(Jbugs, Wolfsberg and a junkyard set) NONE fit worth a shit. How did you get yours to fit around the lip?
They are stock (old) VW ones - I just pounded out a few dents, scrubbed them and put on the screw tab with a rivet and they fit!
