Hi PF, what if injecting oxygen from scuba tank through that air box nozzle . Does it add more performance and engine response? But i was expecting testing it on bigger engine like car or truck engine. If it turns adding good power gain, doesnt that mean we can refill the tank or airbox with electric pump and provide more oxygen at the intake at almost no cost
@@focalpolyglass7337 there is regular air in a scuba tank, the only real benefit you could get is because the scuba tank is under pressure, so it provides boost similar to a turbocharger
Try it on an rc nitro engine

I don't think he had a pressurized intake, it was vented.
If you jetted the carby up on the rich side, the nitrous would have more fuel to burn which is it's job and you would get more power and go faster still. Running with nitrous and no extra fuel is hard on the engine.
Great tip!
That was my concern. Presumably, all the nitrous is doing here is leaning the engine out.
Yep, this is a dry setup. Wet setups have a accelerator pump of extra fuel too. Lots more things you could do to but it gets expensive.
@@daveyt4802 I figure he can hack a cheap, lawnmower engine-worthy solution! Perhaps something along the line of tapping a tiny hole in the carb with a small pump that is engaged when the nitrous button is pressed?
On a side note: TBH, I'm somewhat surprised projectfarm overlooked the necessity of increased fuel. He's got a very solid understanding of how engines operate and discussed the fact that nitrous increases the available O2. Here's to hoping his next video details his inclusion of these changes. It'd be really interesting how much faster the bike could actually go with the simple addition of a whipped cream charger!
(Other side note: I'd love to see him bolt up one of those $150 eBay turbos alongside it!)
Oil Burner an additional small jet using the vacuum of the air box would work. Using a ball valve to get the fuel side dialed in.
I love how you go over the MSDS for the nitrous oxide
Thank you
Thank you mate! Its good to see someone pointing out that N2O is not flammable just helps to cool the air flow intake so it can compress it more and add more fuel for a bigger bang!
Thank you
No, that isn't what nitrous does. It's not a fuel on its own, that's true.
It is an oxidizer however. So when you feed it into an engine, it releases extra oxygen; and your fuel more or less puts out more heat, hence more energy.
That's what the "oxide" part of nitrous oxide means. Nitrous kits require tuning the fuel ratio to prevent blowing out your cylinders, pistons; or throwing a rod.
I have used nitrous on a 250cc four stroke engine to race. It works great. But you need to be concerned with the clutch and the cylinder temps.
In a nut shel it works like this. You spray nitrous oxide into the engine. And you add fuel . When the nitrous oxide reaches 750 deg it splits into oxygen and nitrogen. The nitrogen absorbs some heat. The oxygen is then available for the fuel to mix with. This is how the power is made.
Great post! Thank you
Yeah isn't nitrous about triple the oxygen that we breathe?
@@jimmyjames8573 Nitrous is 38% oxygen vs. 21% in our atmosphere.

Have you tried it with a richer mix? It's just an oxidizer, so you need to add more fuel when you use it to get full effect.
Great recommendation on more fuel!
Exactly. That's why you add a fuel solenoid along with the nitrous solenoid.
A Wideband Oxygen sensor to generally monitor air fuel mixture will definitely help and make that upcoming video interesting!
Project Farm NOS is chemical charging. You add more oxygen to cylinder. Thats why you need more more fuel.
more fuel and also the timing needs to be adjusted.

@@ProjectFarm No, No, thank you
This was so cool. I have seen an engine we tested in the US Army for Nitrous. This was just fantastic. Please continue demonstrating the items, you are a qualified and interesting teacher.
Thanks, will do!
Thank you for testing this NOS kit. Without a supplemental source of fuel, the engine is going to significantly lean out when nitrous is applied.
Please retest with a small electric fuel pump feeding a dedicated fuel injector. Similar to a water injection setup. This should further increase power and resolve the problems with pre-detonation.
Great point and thank you for the recommendation.
+1 NO2 should also only be use at high throttle levels.
+2 nitrous is only as good as the fuel it's mixed with. A wet shot would be a better choice, but fun vid
Big time YES! NOX itself does nothing if it does not have the fuel to combust. Noted slight increase in power was only due to the existing carb jet being a little oversize.
Yes, the big advantage to NO2 is that it allows the engine to burn more fuel. Without the extra fuel it will most likely run lean.

Hello Dear Project Farm, again. I was waiting for this video because you told me to watch this video. I got my 2 stroke engine kit today in the mail! I followed the instructions as shown on your 2 Stroke bicycle engine kit video i got my bike built and it works great, Thanks to you! Keep up the good entertainment!
Great job on assembling the 2 stroke bike build! Please keep a close eye on that chain tensioner and please be careful.
I will, thanks again!
This kit is doing absolutely nothing. If the engine is already running at optimum air fuel mixture, then there is no extra gasoline to burn. That is how NOS works. That is why you run additional fuel into the carb. When you press the button, the system shoots both nitrous and additional gas into the carb.
This kit is not doing anything. Nitrous isn't magic, it is a highly dense oxygen source. Oxygen cannot be converted into energy.
tarstarkusz Right great theorising there. Except, hey genius, the ungoverned mower engine revved higher indicating extra combustion force & the bicycle setup produced extra power. Power is the only way to overcome the resistances to get higher speed. It must be hard when the real world doesn't match your high standards.
tarstarkusz You clearly don't understand small engine fuel delivery.
Revisit this same idea but as a wet shot. You could devise a venturi to siphon extra fuel in with the nitrous and see if there are larger power gains.
Great video idea!
The extra gas should lessen the pre detonating also. As that's the main problem with nitrous, it leans out the mixture to much, which leads to pre-ignition.
Cooper's wet shot...
Caleb Allen nah you need Jame’s 3hp spray and this thing would wind up making 195hp
That was great thank you for taking the time to do that .
You are welcome!
Just found your channel today and subscribed. Love tinkering and this kind of stuff makes me feel like a kid again.
Thanks for watching and subscribing!
N2 systems have a separate fuel line to add fuel to the extra O2 the nitrous gives. Without extra fuel you changed the fuel to air ratio in other words the engine is running lean/hot. You would get extra power and higher RPM by adding more fuel. Most likely above +50 MPH
Thank you!
Exactly!!!! Without the extra fuel he's stressing the engine even more
Eh not so much with a like .25 nitrous hit
Finally a commentator who understands how nitrous works... it is NOT a fuel, its chemical supercharge. You are pumping more O2 in the engine and need more fuel to burn it to make more power, what this kit really is doing is leaning out the engine really badly
Also ignition timing device needed then this will be even more fun to watch
You should test painters tapes to see how well they work and see if they come off cleanly after being on for a long time!
Great video idea!
So great man. Your doing all the stuff I have always wanted to do but have never been able to find time fit. Keep up the awesome videos.
Thanks! Will do!
Always neat to find these older videos from pf.
Thanks!
Good video, but nitrous used properly generally injects more fuel as well. This will get you even more power and not lean out the motor and ping so much. I don't know with that specific motor if injecting more fuel would be enough to eliminate the pinging; however, it would be an interesting experiment to see if you could find a way to do it. A pleasure to watch as always.
Great point. Thank you
I would figure the higher octane fuel would kinda negate the need for more fuel as the 87 regular octane is fine for regular use.
@@MrUnforgiven765 You cant negate the fact that putting in more oxygen via nitrous shots just leans out the mixture. He only got more power because the unregulated carburetor was most likely tuned very rich to begin with.
Would be great to see this again after fitting bigger jets to the carb.
@@FerdinandFake I think most of the extra power gained by running nitrous is actually due to the decomposition of the nitrogen and oxygen from the N2O molecule and not necessarily from the added oxidizer. Extra fuel is used more as a coolant to prevent pre-ignition/pre-decomposition than to try to regain stoiciometric air/fuel. For example, you might target a air fuel ratio of 11:1 running Nitrous vs. 12-13:1 without on the same engine.
It’d be interesting to see what the results were of adjusting the carb as rich as it will run acceptably without NOS
There is a story about a Citroen 2CV being driven by Jaques Sequela and J.C. Baudot in the Aatcama desert in 1959. Their engine lost oil though a broken crank case breather and they could not continue. To get the engine going again the story says they pushed bananas thought the breather and the oil in the mushed up bananas lubricated the engine for 300km until they could get engine oil. Would you test an engine lubricated with bananas and see if it can run for any lenght of time?
Great video idea! Thank you!
I think it's safe to say that a banana is not a good choice as a lubricant... Wouldn't be surprised if the bananas led to a great big sieze after 5 min of run time... Sounds more like a fabricated story.
With the peel or without the peel or just the peel. The old cartoon banana peel trick!
Marcel LeMay
Well if a real engine won’t work with bananas for oil I know a cartoon engine would, banana peels are the most slippery thing known to cartoon man.
It has me wondering if the 2CV 's oil system (perhaps just a bath-style) is different than modern engines to where it would work better with bananas.

enjoyed the various fuel results(naptha, propane, RC fuel), I used to have a 72 GMC pickup with a 350 running propane(Alberta where I live had a no road tax incentive at the time and it was about 30-50% the price of regular at that time, though it was $0.04/liter a few times) and it made me think that propane at about 114 octane and easily gasified would work well as the additional fuel you need to keep the stoichiometric fuel ratio when you add the NO2, maybe with a push button turbo torch type system with the sparker removed. I have also used coleman fuel when I ran out of gas to get me to the gas station in a few of my fuel injected vehicles, just had to take it easy so that your engine doesnt knock. Thanks for your enjoyable channel.
Thanks for the feedback.
Thanks for the feedback.
You're channel is the best..You break it down like no other 😎
Thank you very much!
Any motor can survive nitrous it just really depends on the levels. Typically when you build a motor for nitrous you shave the ring ends down slightly as they will grow and pinch. You tend to see a lot more heat and peak cylinder pressure. It all depends how it’s built, how much extra fuel you use and your IAT. Inlet air temp as well.
Great point! Thank you.
Spark plug temp, electrode protrusion and gap too.
+James... As best I can tell, this kit is doing absolutely nothing. Without an additional source of energy from extra gasoline, it is not possible. I suppose it's possible they have mixed propane in the little cartridge or something, but this engine should already be at a 14.6:1 ratio. If it is already at that ratio, adding additional O2 accomplishes absolutely nothing other than running lean.
Telltale sign of over nitrous use is top of the pistons cracked or busted around the edge near the upper compression ring.
@@nogoodcops6557 i believe that is a sign of the ring gap being to small for the nitrous application. When the rings get hot they expand, close the gap, bind and crack the piston typically above the upper ring groove..
Would like to know how long a 2 cycle engine will last without the oil additive. How long will it run on just gasoline.

Project farm I have another video idea.
Magnets on an oil filter. Small powerful neodenmium magnets put on the metal outside of the oil filter, N facing toward the oil. This would remove even microscopic metal particles. This alone could prolong the crank seals by many times. It would be interesting to install on your old truck and cut the filter open at oil change. Maybe look under a microscope to quantify the amount and especially smaller size particles caught by the magnet.
Thank you for the video idea!
Dude that is actually genius! Especially for when an engine is on the break-in period! Hats off to you my friend!
Most of the metallic material in your oil will be a bronze or bronze alloy bearing material. High performance oil can have a significant amount of Molybdenum and zinc additives for boundary layer protection, these metals arent magnetic so that shouldnt be effected. Race parts suppliers sell many types of oil filter cutters. If you have a significant amount of magnetic material in your oil, you need to locate the source of this material.i

Yeah do a video on this to see what the power difference is. Would be cool.
Thanks for the video idea!
Great idea. He's probably working on this right now.
That really depends on the RPM he's getting at the moment. You can only do so much with the current gearing on the bicycle.
Would be nice to test the bicycle with a bigger front (engine) sprocket first. I think the bike could go faster if the gearing was faster as it would leave the engine in it's peak torque band.
Adding NOS to that would make a bigger difference. Shaving, porting and polishing would then make it a race engine.

Thick grass nitrous button. Takes the 5hp briggs to 20hp
Great idea!
Who needs a right leg anyways
I need to get one of those.Thick spots alongside the fence from the neighbors garden. They fertilize the tomatoes heavily, that strip has killed several mowers
@@troygrant5418 those bush wacking attachments for weedwackers are pretty impressive if you have a good weed wacker, id try to thin it out with that, or go slower with the mower
Sparky Mccormick lol
Thank you for the amazing content as always. I appreciate the level of detail within all of your experiments as well as way you communicate the information to your viewers. One quick question: is there a simple way for me to know what my octane level is? Should I just take a few gallons of 91 and add a full can of octane booster to it? Thank you
Loved it Thank You for being here .
Thank you
Love the video! Never would've imagined it could been possible.
Thanks so much! Thanks for sharing.
Cleetus McFarland: Hell yeah brother! hold mah beer
**Crown vic does 1000hp on the dyno**
lol. Thanks
Always enjoyed your videos, thank you. I have one request and I'm not sure, if you have already displayed a video on this. Since you mentioned octane boost on this video. I would enjoy seeing you do a video on different octane boosters. Do they work, how much is gained, do they harm your engine, can you use more then one per tank fill etc.
Those who put super chargers, turbos, nitrous or rebuild a motor with high horsepower needs more octane. Race fuel is very expensive and hard to get. These octane boosters are less expensive and easily obtainable, this would be a good alternative source.
Also add a vapor cooler to your intake when trying to add more horsepower like nitrous.
Thanks for the video idea.
I have to be honest...I clicked expecting to see a bike ride at 80 mph with you hanging on for dear life with your feet dangling behind you! I wasn’t disappointed! Great video!
Don’t know where you live, but I’d be worried about hitting a deer at those speeds! 😂
Thanks!
Loved the clear engine view 😄
Glad you liked it!
Will a hair dryer blowing into a small engine air intake provide any noticeable MPG/Horse Power increases? Like a DIY cheap turbo?
Thanks for the video idea!
Forced induction and carburetors don't work well together
@@Pogaspm I've just always heard it as a rumor for gokarts, thought it would be interesting to see. I appreciate it though!
first, you have to figure out how many CFM is running through the engine, then now many CFM the blower will provide, to make sure the output of the blower exceeds what the engine is using
Your intake air temps will rise due to the heating element you should use just the blowing part of a hair dryer. And its not compressing the air its just directing the air into the engine. I'd be interessted in the results but i dont think it would increase (much).
Don't try nitroglycerin! The engine will explode!!! The worst that can happen with nitrous oxide is the engine could laugh itself to death.
Thank you
Lol
Or the cylinderhead getting too hot and blowing off...
Try it!!!!
Nitroglycerin is TNT if i am not wrong
Cool video! Learned a bit in the process!
Thanks! Great to hear!
I enjoy watching your projects, stay safe.
Thanks, will do!
I think it would be interesting to see a test of the bike kits against a bike rigged with a chainsaw like someone would put together in their back yard
Great video idea! Thank you.
