    I can see why they call these slow consists the slang term "drag". Slow and steady. Nice catch sir.

    Another question regarding all of those wonderful sounds. Now as the cars roll by one gets to hear these short squeeling sounds which to me could be from the inside wheel flange coming into contact with the inside of the rail. Please correct me if I am wrong and thank you.

    Great capture. Run 8 at the front of the train? They're loud!

    Any idea on where this loaded coal train was headed to?!?? It almost looks like the unit train that heads to Smithers Lake(TX.) outside of Houston but I could be wrong.

    • @travelingtom923
      @travelingtom923  3 года назад

      There is some coal trains going to Texas. Usually they have TX in the markings.

      @@travelingtom923 Wow !!! This is quite the pull and push. 8800 HP on both front and rear. I felt that it was around 7.44 Min. that that was right where the pulling stoped/very short slack/then bunching......and did that GE ever sound great......two bad we did not have two GE s on the rear. Love this video, especially for the sound.

    • @travelingtom923
      @travelingtom923  3 года назад +1

      @@kaswhite1380 It goes over the hill about 1/4 mile from this location. The slack action is from the cars going over the hill and pulling the rest of the train faster then the rear locomotive can push it.

    Any idea of throttle position? I don't know if they were going too slowly to use full power.

    • @travelingtom923
      @travelingtom923  3 года назад

      I am sure they are in full throttle. I believe the speed limit is 30 MPH for this area and I doubt if they are even doing 10 MPH.

      @Jeff C They do slip wheels but you have to listen carefully. You will hear the engine rpm's going up and down. Next time I talk to a engineer I will ask what notch they use for this route.

    • @travelingtom923
      @travelingtom923  3 года назад +1

      @Jeff C I will be working in the Union Pacific yard this Summer and will talk to the engineers about the Joint line as well as the Moffat Route. Thanks for the link. I should be doing a video hopefully this Summer on some of my experiences with the railroad, and I will discuss horsepower VS tractive effort and a bunch of other technical stuff.
