Did you see those kids at the beginning of the train. Big windup and a throw. Ping. Nothing new there. Guilty of it myself when we lived next to the UP line in Portland.
So many locos for an empty coal train, but they are going to need the power once they are loaded up again. Never really thought about it Tom, but do you know if there is any significance to the colors on the coal hoppers? Bonus, KCS! Thanks for sharing. 👍 👍 👍
Nice video and superb location. What's with all the extra concrete ties along the track as it looks like all the ties are all concrete already? I've not seen/heard of concrete ties already(?) having to be replaced ...?
6 locos, apparently more power than usual for the loaded train! But were all 4 locos at head end running? I don't know - in these clean exhaust days it's not easy to establish. Thoughts - maybe numbers 3 and 4 are dead in tow - excess power move - moving locos for repair or similar. The 2 locos at the tail end were running - and they are there for a definite purpose..
Could be a "hospital train" ... some units going for maintenance or repair. Maybe being reassigned. Maybe to be dropped off at a helper district. I thought some units weren't running but like you said, it's hard to know for sure.
Longest train I've seen. So many diesels. Enjoyed watching.

counting ...... and my coffee got cold .... 123 wagons today!
Lot of locomotives for an empty coal train. I suppose there is a purpose for that. Very nice Kansas City Southern locomotive.
I also saw a KCS ES44AC as the Trailing DPU.
Loved this.
The train. The view.
Thanks love watching your videos .
Its very unusual, to see all the locomotives at the front of the train, coupled elephant style.

They sounded like they were all running.
