  • 8 Managers Who Could Replace Klopp At Liverpool
Since this news broke, only one question has been on the lips of football fans all around the world: who will replace him? Well, we have some educated guesses here. These are 8 managers who could replace Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool.
The most obvious one is certainly Xabi Alonso. He spent 5 years playing for Liverpool and is loved by the fans, so sentiments are definitely on his side. But more importantly, he seems to be passing his biggest test yet as a manager. His Bayer Leverkusen side remain the only unbeaten club in Europe’s top 5 leagues this season and they look like they’re on the way to break the Bayern Munich monopoly in the Bundesliga.
If he indeed pulls this off, he’ll become the first non-Bayern manager to win the Bundesliga since Jurgen Klopp. Sounds like the perfect replacement, doesn’t it?
But then, there’s a possibility that Liverpool would want to go for a more proven Zinedine Zidane. The Frenchman is still without a job, and if the Reds can convince him to get back into the coaching business, it would be such a perfect match.

Xabi Alonso and Xabi Alonso and no one else should be Liverpool manager. Xabi is loved by the fans and is a proven winner and is doing wonders at Leverkusen with tactical mastery. He has worked under Ancellotti, Del Bosque, Rafa Benitez, Jose Mourinho, Zinedine Zidane and Pep Guardiola, and has won silverware with all of them. He has learnt from the best and will be a successful manager at Liverpool. When he comes to Anfield they will welcome him back like one of their own.

Top choice: Xabi Alonso, good game record so far and got history with Liverpool. But it would be premature for him to manage Liverpool at the end of season since it's just the first sign that he could be a top manager. Should keep an eye on him for another year then it'll come clear whether there's a smart manager in him.
De Zerbi: Probably the second best choice by FSG preference, he can do a great job establishing a competitive team with small budget, but managing Liverpool and Brighton are different concept, the model works for Brighton might not as effective for Liverpool.
Zidane, Mourinho: Not of versatile and long term manager as they never did it with a less dominant club in league or building a team from ground up. Besides they have too much bonds with other clubs which makes me wonder how much they will commit to the role as Liverpool manager.
Gerrard: Pure sentimental choice, worst candidate on the list as he haven't prove his ability as manager in any major competition or league.
Ange: Same as Gerrard, haven't really prove that he's up there to head to head world's best managers in any major competition.
My thought is that Liverpool should appoint Pep Ljinders as interim manager if that's possible. He knows the Klopp legacy well enough to keep the Klopp momentum going for another year. Then Liverpool can witness if Xabi is the real deal and got a whole year to screen their options.

I live in Germany, and Xabi Alonso has done an incredible job. One of the most important things is his spirit he spreads, giving the players an amazing confidence without getting a big head. Alonso loves his players and they respect and love Alonso. So for me he would be the best to follow Klopp, who I have followed when he trainer of Mainz 05, which was his first job as manager in the bundes league.

I think Thomas Frank is an underrated shout. Brentford have always had a very rigourous 'moneyball' approach which FSG are a fan of and he has overachieved with Brentford, though hes struggling this season mostly due to injuries and Toney's ban.
My favoured js Xabi, but i would be very interested to see Frank with better resources at his disposal

On the surface, the early front runner is obviously Xabi. He's a calm head, has tactical flexibility, is working wonders at his current club, has experience being involved at the biggest clubs in the world, and of course has that all important connection to Liverpool that allows him to understand the magnitude of the job before he commits, should he do so.
This is obviously a multifaceted process in selecting a manager to fill massive shoes. The right personality to be able to handle such pressures when things go slightly pear shaped, as they do at all clubs from time to time, is key. So, the staff that any of the options bring with them are also on trial here. As a collective, the coaching team needs to be a great fit with the club and each other of course.
Of the other options, I think De Zerbi would be a solid option given he is having success in the prem with a club that has less resources and playing a very attractive style. I feel he is Barca bound though.
I've got concerns about Zidane. Yes, he has proven success at a big club. His man management skills would be top notch for sure. I've just got doubts around how things might go if he didn't get his way with cash available and transfers. We are not and never will be run like Real.
Im an aussie, so I love what Ange is doing. Similar in some ways to De Zerbi, he is playing attractive football while not getting the financial support to really challange at the top despite their brilliant start. He's got a great character and he's a Liverpool fan to boot. In many ways I'd love to see it happen.
Stevie needs to prove himself again after the Villa debacle. There's clearly something there given what he did at Rangers. That doesn't happen by accident. Maybe he moved too soon to the prem?
Jose. No sorry. Great manager in his day. Has a brilliant mind. Time to look forward not back. And he managed United too. Drama would be compelling, but we need stability.

In my opinion, I think I would go with three managers who can do it with LFC. Jose Mourinho can transform any club when he joins them just like he did with Chelsea and Roma. Next is Xabi Alonso, whose side is currently unbeaten in the Bundesliga and Europa League, finally he also has played for Liverpool so it might be a good one. Next is Unai Emery as his side Aston Villa has a strong chance of finishing top 4 combined with a good run at the conference league. I feel like if Zidane came, he'd have to get back with the managerial workload. And Gerrard, although he's a legend for Liverpool, just doesn't cut it as the proper manager rather than a Player.

    • @saaamyk

No one candidate here matches Klopp's outstanding football management DNA. So it is a hard landing for whoever it might be to fill the void. You probably will have a couple of season to catch up what the legacy Klopp left for you but, soon enough you'll find yourself chasing shadows of a great legend.
Yes, that is tough. So tough that Klopp himself finds it impossible to beat himself for the success he achieved over the years. Stepping into his shoes will not only be uncomfortable, it will be agonizingly painful.
Like it or not, this unfortunate scenario is going to be stay put!😅😅

I think Xabi is the frontrunner in this race - _IF_ they can pry him away from Bayer Leverkusen.
Zidane? That would be an interesting and exciting development (and apparently his English is far better than what is generally thought). Can't quite see him as a good fit for LFC, though...
Gerrard? Makes sense for nostalgic reasons - but you need better reasons than that to hire a manager. He didn't exactly cover himself in glory at Villa...
Mourinho? Nah. His star has faded - the Special One ain't so special anymore.
Postecoglou? Could be a good fit - but he seems really stuck in on the Tottenham project.
Potter is a longshot, but would be my dark horse of choice.

I will also suggest that we should appoint the assistant manager Pep as an interim to take over for next season

Many people are forgetting about klopp's present assistant. He's been working with klopp for years and this will be a good fit because the relationship with the players is already there, the system this guy has been into.

It's between Xabi Alonso and Jose Mourinho but I'd go for Mourinho because he won Champions league with Real Madrid and I would want Mourinho to be in Liverpool seeing all these Champions league, Premier League, and etc trophies in Liverpool.

Liverpool needs to simmer down about Xabi. Recently he was asked in a press conference about the concept. He denied any considerations on that matter since his full concentration is currently on Bayer Leverkusen. Ofcourse that is the standard answer as to be expected and his tone could change in the future but that being said, a lot can happen till then. Ofcourse it is possible, but always keep a "no" in mind. Personally I would love to see Mourinho "the special one" following "the normal one", to give the Premiere League the spice it once had with Sir Ferguson and Arsene Wenger.

Hire Jose Mourinho to steady the ship as the special one as interim manager first while they continue to search for the permanent one. Jose did his job well at Man Utd when he won them the Cup.
