Do you ride XC or Enduro on your MTB? Let us know 👇
Enduro
Enduro
Xc
XC... TR
I ride more towards XC, but on a Trail Bike. Best of both worlds when I can only afford the one bike
Riding trail bike, dressed enduro on xc courses. How about that?
To znaczy, że nie zdecydowałeś się co w końcu robisz i trailówką na xc? Jak tak można
Meeeeeeeee
I think thats 90% of the people I see on trails in Uk
Not only in the UK ... Germany same picture
Riding trail bike. Dressed dh on enduro corse
Personally I’m just a mountain biker. I ride a trail bike 160/150. I sometimes like to do some fitness and smash a climb. Others i coast and rip the DH. I like a bit of everything and just ride my bike with a smile on my face.
👍👍👌
Man, I remember when 160/150 was Enduro...
@@vomErsten it is enduro technically
@@vomErsten Seriously, when Paul the Punter did a video on "Trail Bikes" and he used a 150/150 bike. I'm like come on Paul... come on. I know you're up in Squamish but anything at 150mm is basically low end Enduro. Trail is like 120-140. But then he uses his Scott Spark 120mm as an XC bike video. I'm like come on Paul.... come on.
I have 150 150 trail bike and it’s awesome👌
When it comes to it, XC is the most versatile - it can do road, gravel, fireroads, single-track, and any downhill that doesn't involve huge drops and gaps. Literally the only thing it can't do is big jumps and big drops, other than that you are all set. Less linkage and pivot points = easier maintenance. Lighter weight also, and if you don't like lycra, who said you have to wear that on XC bike? And lastly, tyres are out of the debate completely because you can slap on whatever you want as long as it fits into your frame, just because it says enduro tyre doesn't mean you can only use it on enduro bike.
I recently got my Xc bike and I’m really happy with it as it can do everything want from a bike to do even if it’s a hard tail
True
its a late reply I know but really that's all that matters is that your having fun.
The trail bike is for us average Joe's and weekend warriors.
Sounds like me 😜
Here is that a xc bike
I agree a trail bike offers the best of both. My YT Izzo is a good all rounder, very good climber and with 130 travel not bad on the downhills
I ride a Cannondale Scalpel XC full sus (100mm travel front and rear) - having tried an enduro bike, a trail bike and an 3 xc hardtails over the years, I found that this is the best type of bike for me, 90% of the time riding Red trails around UK bike parks, wearing the same gear/clothes that I wear on my road bike. To each their own, the most important is that we all have fun on the trails and respect each other!
I would be interested, how much those times would change if you swapped the tires between the bikes. Just to see the influence the tire has.
Hello Gmbn, I think xc is more for people that prefers chill and relaxed riding but still loves pushing themselves, I mean I do Have friends that do this style of riding, hope you had a good 2020 and whether you guys are having a good time!
I love GMBN!!!
With a cup of Tim Hortons
🙌🙌🙌
This is the exact reason I bought a trail bike. I have the new Pivot Switchblade and it’s as wicked up hill as it is down hill. Sure it’s not a low cost bike but there’s loads of trail bikes that do it all at various price points and spec levels. Surely if your a big hitter then you want Enduro, if you want something for the hardcore racing snake then you’re XC age for everything in the middle your trail.
For me xc is the best all around bike experience mountain and road plus it is lightweight so you can use it anywhere
I ride and love my down country bike. Light enough to fly up the climbs but a relaxed enough position to be fun and quick on the descents. The suspension is forgiving but firm and the bike is playful and fast. I’ve taken it from XC races one weekend to the DH park the next. Lock it out and it’s a fast gravel or road bike for smashing intervals or exploring on long rides.
Xc bike, enduro cloathing, and doing things i shouldnt do on a xc hardtail😂
and still don't got a puncture 🤘
exactly
I am the guy running a 150mm steeelie hardtail running out of tyre sealant on my trail tyres.🤔😅Better than bending my xc hardtail at least😂
sick video, saw you up Easty that day whilst you were shooting that video. Thanks for the inner tube you gave me as well that day!!
What Rich was wanting to say was downcountry is an ideal blend 😉
DC but with skinny XC tyres is the ultimate comfort/performance compromise
That music for the first Enduro run was some real Nightwish-sounding stuff...
For full numbers game with reference to each section (up vs down) the enduro was 19.2% back from the xc time on the climb, while the xc was 25.3% back from the enduro on the descent. The nerd-jury finds that in a relative sense the Enduro is less worse on the up than the xc is on the down. But precedent stands that both have two wheels and will be fun to ride.
Isn’t that kinda funny to think that, when riding an Enduro, you spend more time on the less fun part (climbing) and less time on the more fun part. While XC spends less time on the less fun and more time on the more fun part. Sounds like XC bikes can be a smarter choice for fun and speed. :)
I would love to see a new Strive vs Spectral 29er comparison!
This is why I went with a trail bike. It’s not perfect for either but I can do everything that the area I live in has to offer and have a blast doing it
Im a MOUNTAIN BIKER. Its the only "title" I need. I just ride an XC hardtail cause its all I could afford, its easy on the hills (theres a lot here in the Sudbury basin) and it was light. I love it and will ride anything on it.
Just ride your bike and enjoy it's all mountain biking and fun, even if the bike industry wants to divide it in to niche categories.
We agree that riding is all about fun John! All genres of MTB are equally awesome! We don't think the industry is trying to divide it into niche categories. Mountain biking has evolved into different specific genres and so the bikes have evolved also, there is really a bike for everyone out there now. Back in the 90s/ early 2000s people were trying to race Downhill and do Dirt Jumping on XC bikes and it was just plain dangerous! What type of bike do you ride? 🤔
Strongly disagree. People should have choices in terms of suspension, weight, geometry etc. A "do it all" MTB does not exist.
Id say for Competition and Olympics where grams, oz, and lbs, your bodys genetics and all that micro BS stuff do actually matter and could win you a race yes its important BUT for us 90 maybe 95% of us who dont race or Olympics, I also agree just freakin ride and have a blast.. life is short..
Cool video Rich! But I can't stop looking at my bike thinkin, I got the wrong one. I need an XC mtb now😂
Gotta go with xc.. love the lightweight love the speed love grinding up hills
Good one Rich! Some people are saying who cares which is faster... I do! Sometimes I have to get home by a certain time but want to ride as many downs as possible so it’s important I get to the top quickly. Next full suss will be a YT Izzo/ transition spur type bike- shorter travel with aggressive (ish) geo. (Surrey Hills, N+1)
Rich isn't his name people who ride those bikes are just called Rich.
Nice vid, thx to both of you, EnduRich and X-CountRich
Let's hope that XC and Enduro actual races will be up to enter as soon as possible.
I'm racing on the XCO regionals in march wish me luck 👌
Best explanation yet!
The absolute best advice I ever got: buy the bike for the terrain u actually gonna drive, not what u would like to drive
Yup, if you live somewhere that doesn't have steep, gnarly trails an XC bike is probably going to work better
Please do a hardtail XC bike with Rich, a hardtail trail bike with Blake and a full suspension enduro bike with Doddy.. do some real world tests and comparisons please!! Love the format the video is shot in, just want some hardtail action!!!!
An awesome idea could be enduro hardtail bike vs full suspensión enduro bike
I saw enduro rich at the forest of dean on Christmas Eve. 😁
My bike is a hardtail with an XC geometry except for the 35mm stem. I also don't like wearing lycra. I wear a bulky cargo shorts, long sleeved jersey shirt, trail shoes and tactical gloves.
i am 11 and i love enduro
I was like “dang xc rich is way faster on the uphill and the flat “ then i realized it was sped up 😂
Super Top video jajajajaj. Now I feel big motivated to get on the trail myself, what gets me going the longest while bike is *Delta Parole* or other rokk music!
Great video rich! And you did it at my local! Fair play to you smashing that part of the student champs decent on a xc bike, that's rough 😉👍
Rich is DEFINITELY my fave presentor
When I bought my bike a couple months ago, I did not understand nothing in MTB types. So when I'm climbing - my bike is a XC bike. When I'm riding down - it's an enduro)))).... But in the end, when I get home and wash my MTB, it looks like XC.
Enduro is all about not wearing Lycra! :)
haha hit the spot , always weird to see dudes in tights
i don't like it but i tried and there was a slight difference
😆
I'm all for not wearing lycra. Men should not wear lycra as their topmost layer. Ever. Especially not middle aged men. End of discussion.
Ive never associated Lycra with XC, if your racing I guess, but not regular riding. I have a carbon hard tail and a trek remedy. I enjoy both and don't dress any different.
Trail and Enduro FTW! 💪💪
There is a safety factor as well. I feel being well planted is worth the 1 min 30 sec. I like the cush as well 🤓
AWESOME music throughout
I appreciate that y'all use heavy music in your vids :D
I loved that set of music to Enduro Rich :)
We need more xc content
Don’t need to watch this to the end to know which will win. I ride both, and if you’re timing up and down XC will win every time. Only way enduro wins is if the clock is paused on the uphill. Enduro is a good sport for doing with mates who don’t train. XC is good to to test all MTB skills, you need fitness to get up quick, plus better bike handling skills to descend fast on a compromised bike.
@Darragh in my experience the main thing that differentiates a podium XC rider from a top 10 XC rider is their bike handling skills on the decent. It is relatively straight forward to train to climb quickly if you’re committed, descending a steep and technical trail on a bike with 100 mm travel fast is something completely different. And if you can shred on a 100 mm bike, 160 mm makes it that much easier. I like to ride my 100 mm bike when I’m riding with guys on 160 mm bikes cause I have to ride on the absolute limit to keep up, it’s good race training. But when I want a relaxed day of riding I take my 160 mm bike. A mate of mine likens suspension travel to talent compensation the more travel you have the faster you can go for a given level of talent.
Good content 🤙
I would consider myself a XC rider but i’m interested to hear more about this bacon van
Which one is less often in fails and bails? I would say that is better for you.
The only reason to pedal uphill, apart from the fact that it beats running on a treadmill, is to then go downhill. Fast. 🙂
XC racers seem like roadies who are tired of getting hit by cars
@@Griffa87 I've done it. It works fine until it doesn't. I got pretty lucky, but still ended up in the ER not remembering what happened.
@@Griffa87 XC bikes are super fun donwhill till around grade 4+ then they get sketchy, they so easy to rack up the miles on. enduro always more fun once gravity get going.
I've got XC, Enduro, Trials, Road and they all have their place. But a XC means you can cover more ground and not be stuck in the park, plus they go downhill on all but the gnarliest stuff if you've got the skills. Live and let let live.
Be surprised how capable a modern xc bike is on decents with slacker geo on 29er, if your not doing huge jumps and 3ft+ drops an XC (especially downcountry) will be much more fun on local trails (like in Riches vid), if you know you will be doing big stuff get Enduro. Or buy smart get both 2nd hand for less than the cost of one new 😁
Surely the better test would be a Trail vs Enduro and then Trail vs XC. That would be a much closer test. GMBN seem to be too focused on Enduro and XC... episode be nice to see trail bike comparisons (as that’s what most people probably ride)
Sure the times will tell which is some what better at the sport but what about which is more fun?
For sheer adrenaline my mums shopping bike with basket
No gloves on either run, braver than I
XC all the wayyy!!!!
Yes
Depends if you race... if you do, buy that particular bike. If not, buy a trail bike leaning towards your fav discipline
The only difference between the 2 is, one you stop for a break at the top and the other, you just keep going!
The soundtrack is the bomb! :)
Did I miss something? How does a climb of 5:43 + a DH of 1:44 equal 12:56?
#GMBN #GMBNTech Enduro Rich on the Halloween bike! Will have to re-do this test as tan walls are always faster than any other non tan wall tire. It's science.
budget level XC!
I’m not sure that there’s much point to doing this kind of side by side comparison. The difference is what makes each fun.
I love my All Mountain bike. Is that still a thing?
My bike dates from 2016, weighs 11.5kg, 140mm travel front and rear, it does everything I need. It is light enough to pedal well uphill and can easily handle red runs at the bike parks and in the Alps (actual mountain biking :-) ). One bike to rule them all.
Ok, so it's clearly not a proper downhill weapon and no doubt would start to show its limitations on the black runs but they are beyond my ability too.
Thats why i have an all mountain Canyon on 27.5" 130/120mm travel for a trails like that.
The only thing i found hard doing on an xc bike is jumping
I agree, on this route some slightly more capable tyres would have seen the XC bike much closer the the enduro bike on the downhill for little penalty on the uphill.
I’ve done a freeride style trail on an xc hardtail, you just have to be smart and know when to bail. My Rockhopper has handled 3-4 foot drops, some small tabletops (4-7 feet from lip to landing) and a whale tail.
@@anthonywalters7434 Well stuff that size is basically XC
@@th_js still, not something your average Joe will be doing. Most people just get a trail or enduro bike to ride some basic blue trails
It kills me spending £400 on a bike. Just cant save up anymore need to get back on the trails.
0% finance is the answer!
Sell your car my dude
Just going old school and getting rid of that dang metric system which is causing all these divisions. 4" or less Cross-Country (XC), 5" All Mountain (AM), 6" or above Down Hill (DH)
Which is your favourite MTB:
Dual suspension: like
Hard tail: comment
Rigid:🙂🙂 you are lying to yourself..
Great choice of music!
You could always put trail tires on the xc bike, and punish the enduro on the downs as well.
next: full sus xc vs hardtail
@@dave_xc lycra is just slightly more aero and that's it. Enduro is more comfortable and looks cooler
@@Fred_the_1996 actually lycra with padding is more comfortable and more breathable, and you will find a lot of enduro riders even using liners with padding under their baggy shorts because that's truly comfortable
@@dominikbachraty3611 i thought there were baggy shorts with padding built in???
@@Fred_the_1996 there are, but not that common and also their lowest price point is higher than some lycra bib shorts
Great video!
Could you do a „One Bike for all“ Video?
With a 120-140 mm bike and just change the tires and compare it with a XC and a Enduro Bike with the same tires.
Do XC vs Trail, down country and gravel on same loop king of the hill style
My missus has a "no lycra" policy in our 🏠
Good!
I wish I had a cycle like you guys 😭
I know what bike is right for me - I just need to save up for it: Orange Five Evo :-)
Great Content!!
Thanks!
AM and above are the best!
3:25 you know you're on a MTB when you need post processing effects to appear fast on a level road. And you're still spinning fast in your highest gear.
I would have liked a better breakdown of the details that go into a ride. Most riders aren't out to go as fast as possible on any trail. Which is more FUN on various types of terrain, conditions, etc? Which one would you rather be riding as the hours pile on? I'd much rather go with a slower but far more comfortable, playful, and predictable ride than race bike ergonomics. They seem to have similar seat heights from the look of them, but the enduro seems to have a lower seat tube so the dropper could get more out of the way for descents. God is in the details.
With the edits we don't see the full loop, but that wasn't a proper climb or a decent really. More of a middle ground on the two, so the bike choice wouldn't affect the time that much really. But the differences would be only more pronounced with more extreme climbs or drops etc.
Moral of the story, own both types and have twice the fun. I use my XC more than my enduro, but I take the enduro to bike parks and use my XC for local trails since I have some good stuff nearby
I have to choose enduro because I like a visor on my helmet.
Downcountry is the way to go
i like them both but i like enduro the most because theres more action into it even tho theres more risk
More XC videos 🚴🤟
I have a basic xc hardtail it's a size too big, it's was a year old model when I got it and it was on sale. there are no xc course in the area nor are there any real trails. i never ride it. I liked the color
XC with 110/100mm, seat dropper, remote lockout, enduro tires, 32/50 gearing, 4 piston breaks, 26lbs. Ready for anything around here. Even pavement...
Xc! All around king
All mountain, the best of two world, capable of doing both, good everywhere but perfect nowhere
I thought that. It might not be perfect anywhere but my all-mountain bike is still better than me. Everywhere.
@@tonyb9735 same for mine haha,it's me who bring our lvl down, not him :p
Something in the middle, trail biking if I must categorize it.
So nice
1:54 "...four pot brakes, there's no stopping me..."
Rich, I don't think you understand the purpose of brakes. :P
‘Pop’
@@tomgannan6845 typo
Just spray WD40 on your brakes, you'll smash the descents way faster
@@Fred_the_1996 Some good advice there, I've found brakes only slow me down, surely I'd be quicker if I just take them off?
@@theodoreroberts8524 BMX and fixies have been doing it for ages, surely they're not needed
I like the stiffness of an XC bike. When I ride longer travel bikes they feel slow and bulky. XC for me.
Need trail v xc next 👍
give ur editors a raise
Bottom line is...who give a fanny adams? I've been riding mountain bike for over 30 years, and I've never timed a run yet. Enduro yesterday, XC tomorrow, road bike on Wednesday, downhill Friday and then get the BMX out next weekend. Just get out and ride bikes.
Not everyone has 5 bikes
Me included...it was more a rhetorical statement on just ride what you have and enjoy it.
@@hobo_overland but if you had to pick one bike would it be an enduro or an XC?
@@hobo_overland Yeah, any modern bike is pretty good at all of that :)
@@mbal4052 Personally, and especially for riding around where I live, XC. Although that said, I usually ride a Nukeproof Scout...
You should do a video where 2 of u guys get very cheap bikes and upgrade them with things such as pedals etc. Then u should do a head to head and push the bikes to their limits
fortunately I have only a downcountry bike :)
1 for all
