"Recently renovated" did kill all those people. They slapped on the cheap styrofoam insulation on the outside in the name of energy efficiency. Many buildings have been or will be converted in these fire traps each day. Signed, an architect.

In the 70s, I worked in public safety in the LA area and have responded in our ambulances to house and apartment house fires where there had been a few fatal casualties. I have never responded to anything like this and the tallest apartment house fire I responded to was six stories. 6 people tried to jumped to safety but out of these 6, 3 died of their injuries and some died of smoke inhalation and 3rd degree burns. This had to be Hell on Earth for the people trapped inside before being rescued or dying from smoke or burns. I am not a trained fireman and my assignment was on the ambulance. I have never seen a building fire spread so quickly as this one did. It seemed like an acceleration or propellant caused the fire to leap out of control. The refurbishing material should have been made of fire resistant components, if that is what it was. I hope it was not a case of arson because so many people have been displaced, injured or killed. Very sad indeed and a horrific tragedy to say the least. The UK has had more than its share here lately.

Well, this happens because of someone want to do something good for the cheap, is it his fault? Do the owners wanted to be as cheap as they can afford? Do the contractures inform the owners this thing are cheap and very good to save a lot of money from buying gas, but not bullet moves? Does the government choose those cheap conversions to save spending money on foreign gas, because the lesser people use gas the less the government has to spend in buying it and it's part of saving, nothing wrong with it, But to do it they should make sure it's had safe for everyone, sure people are prepared to lose money, and sure they don't like it, is it party first? to use it in a way that can destroy lives that's a criminal act.

It's too expensive to have a helicopters dropping water on fires. They only use these type of helicopters if the fire has spread in a massive area, like a forest. If they started dropping water from the helicopter, the water would most likely injure people as water falling from a height is like concrete. As this is in a residential area, that would also damage other buildings.

    • @chippypea
