If Mars’ shale rock porosity versus depth can be estimated from seismic data, as it can on Earth,
(google: “Sediment dewatering in the Macran accretionary prism”) , then one can also determine Mars’ rock-forming mechanism and geothermal gradient, as can be done on Earth (google “Proposed Method for Shale Compaction Kinetics”)

  • @brynparrott7361

Its pretty glib to say the question of water availability on mars is solved. We can make drinking water and rocket fuel from it - right ?
But the water so far detected is 20km below the surface. To put this in context the deepest hole humans have ever made on earth is 14 Km deep (in Russia) and it took years to make. So it’s somewhat of a challenge to talk about making a deeper hole on Mars. Just think about the mass of the drilling equipment needed. !!
First we would need to find minerals to make the drilling rods and pipes, smelt that material, form it into rods and pipes. On a planet far from Earth. With the largest rocket capable of carrying 50 tonnes at a time. So it’s an issue of scale.
So, whilst human endeavor might one day surmount the challenge it’s definitely the stuff of the distant future. At least it provides a goal.
I think we might also want to reconsider the question of WHY we would put so much effort into colonizing Mars.
