That standing calf press means your shoulders are against the pads and you get a slight stretch and warm up. Whilst not directly doing shoulders it provides a bit of isometric tension before a first light warm up

Explosive training, when done properly(unlike branch and johnnie are doing) can be extremeley beneficial and CAN be done with proper form without any significant injury risk(obviously there's a bigger risk than training with slow repetitions, but if you don't want any risk of injury at all, don't train period) but I completely see what your saying, and for the most part is true, however explosive reps do build more muscle, when done properly
These guys are genetically blessed on a scale you would not believe it has fuck all to do with their knowledge or doing something right. Genetics + steroids is how you get that size with piss poor form and too much weight. For the rest of us if we tried lifting like that we would never grow and injur ourselves along the way!
I been training for let's say ten years now and Bodybuilders like Johnnie Jackson sometimes make me wonder... i always heard you needed to make your repetitions slow, on the way back especially, to increase the tension on the muscles in order to make them grow.. and then, i see these bodybuilders who have incredible physiques and pretty much seem to rush every repetition. My dilemma is that if no steroids would be involved,would there still be great gains in mass while training in such fashion?
Johnnie and Branch are my inspiration, dudes go all out every workout. Motivation!!
