    Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz (Sophia Charlotte; 19 May 1744 - 17 November 1818) was the wife of King George III. She was Queen of Great Britain and Ireland from her wedding in 1761 until the union of the two kingdoms in 1801, after which she was queen consort of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland until her death in 1818. She was also the Electress consort of Hanover in the Holy Roman Empire until the promotion of her husband to King of Hanover on 12 October 1814, after which she was also queen consort of Hanover.

    Very interesting I would imagine that most of the European royal families have mixed races. The main reason I would think that because of the Moors that had taken over Spain and Portugal. Especially since they often intermarried cousins.

    Thanks! I knew nothing about Queen Charlotte before now. I see that I should look closer into her history.
    The Dido history I learnt from the very touching film "Belle". Kenwood House, home to Belle or Dido is close to where I live, and also to Highgate Cemetery, where Marx is buried. The film shows the old river Fleet running thru Kentish Town on its way to the Thames. That river now runs underground and can be heard gushing after heavy rain. In that film, Judge William Murray says in his adjudication against slavery "Let justice be done though the heavens may fall". It is interesting whether he really did say that, or its Latin equivalent; a known legal maxim: "Fiat justitia et ruant coeli."
    Anyway, a touching film.

    One name stuck out to me: King Leopold, who is known for massive genocide in the Belgian Congo. I wonder did he know that his brother-in-law, Edward Duke, was of African descent?

  • @fwilderone
    @fwilderone 9 лет назад +34

    Very well done; and yes, the story reminds one of "Belle" because it seems some people are still sensitive to a true rendition of black history and it's influence on the world. It's no coincidence either that Napoleon had his artillery soldiers shoot the facial features off the statue of the Sphynx in Egypt which is located in Northern Africa. The world turns slowly for some of us. It's God's will. All in due time.

    I think Elizabeth looks exactly like her, and the first time I saw those two paintings side by side I didnt know the story but my reaction was :o she stole the crown?! There are many surprises in genetics, anyway, for example my daughter looks very very much like her gr.gr. Grandmother.

      The Moors are the muslim people from North Africa. They invaded Europe after Rome collapse and ignited the Islamic Golden age. They thrived especially in the Iberian Peninsula(now Spain). That is why Spaniards look a little different from other Europeans. They have moorish blood in them and many Spanish names comes from arabic origins like Omar etc.

    Thank you for this wonderful documentary. Well done for discovering all the information. We were taught in north UK about a coloured Queen of England who was the ancestor of Queen Elizabeth2, but many southerners didnt like to accept that fact. Face it fellow Brits, its true. Once again, thank you for bringing this information to the public.

      Asensio Rodriguez False. You can’t have a “trait” pop up “anytime even generations later” if genetically it is not in you to begin with. Each person only carries DNA from ancestors going back 6-7 generations.

      No. The one drop rule was forced upon American society by the racist element. But clearly it is not a scientific fact. If mxrace or so called mulatto people were black then they would not be called Mixrace. They would be called black.
