- Friends, we come to the wonderful Feast of the Holy Family. Over the years on this feast day, I’ve certainly preached on the dynamics of the Holy Family, on Mary, and of course on the Lord, but I don't think I’ve ever focused on St. Joseph. Well, that ends today. Let’s look at four dimensions to the holiness of this greatest male saint in the history of the Church.

Also my brother,the Evil one sends his minions to undermine us.Dont forget our binding prayers "Through the Divine Blood of Jesus and the intercession of our Mother Mary,we Bind the Spirit of .....". It helps
St. Joseph is also someone to whom Jesus would obey in his earthly life. Imagine the amount of trust that God the Father had in Joseph! He is someone we can totally trust as well.
I lost my husband of 63 yrs in April & thru the years of our life together I often referred to him as my Joseph to me & our 4 children even though his name was Jim. A wonderful man who I miss so much. Thank you for such a beautiful homily❤
I'm a relatively new convert (1 1/2 years) to the Church. I've never understood the place of St. Joseph as I do now, and it is such a blessing. As I learn more and more, and still often feel lost, I will turn to St. Joseph to help me find my way. Learning to lean on our mother Mary has been such a blessing. Having her husband as protector will help my heart feel closer to our Lord in this incredibly dangerous and confused world.
As a husband and a father, this is the message I not only wanted, it was the message I needed.

Give me strength this New Year. Heavenly Father, I come to you today asking for your blessings as a single mom. I’m raising my children with strength and courage, despite the challenges I face with my sons being autistic. Lord as I struggle to pay my rent every month and as I struggle to buy groceries for my children. I ask that you bless me with your wisdom and guidance, as I navigate parenthood on my own heal my lupus and heart disease and continue to give me strength to keep going so I may watch my sons grow into men. ❤

Pray to St. Joseph to intercede and send good men to help you in your need. God will let him know what you need. St. Joseph answers prayers. I know. He has answered mine and continues to do so. We should celebrate Father's Day on the feast of Saint Joseph.
People already do in traditionally Catholic nations, though I assume you're speaking about the United States.
In England we keep Mother's Day on Laetare Sunday,which is usually close to the Solemnity of the Annunciation.
As a dad, I appreciate St Joseph and I appreciate that he was a man of action, balance and trust in God.
Love this. Our men and boys especially need St Joseph to raise them up in a society that is out to destroy them

I happened to just consecrate myself to St. Joseph this morning on the feast day of the Holy Family - beautiful reflection from Bishop Barron at a very timely moment for me
My Dad - who was a carpenter - told one time that carpenters are special, since St. Joseph practiced that trade and taught it to Jesus.

St Joseph is my favorite Saint.He is the perfect example of a good Husband and foster Father.i try to emulate him as a Husband.He is obedient to God's will,faithfull land a man if integrity.A humble man of few words.
Bishop Barron, so many of your homilies are so good, but really, for me, this is one of your all time best. In my decades as a practicing Catholic, I don't think I've ever heard a homily focused on St. Joseph. So beautiful, and new perspectives for me on his role and the role of all fathers who are faithful to the role God has given them, however difficult. Thank you so much.
Watching this on NYE at 11.45pm and as is often the case at this time of year, feeling alone and assailed by despair. But then with each minute of this wonderful video, I felt God's spirit telling me to listen and believe. And just before the moment that +Barron spoke of his favourite title for St Joseph, the thought came to me: pray the Terror of Demons prayer. And with that I received my confirmation. Thank you Bishop Barron. Thank you St Joseph and of course thank You God for giving us the angels and saints to be our constant help in this battle.
And Happy New Year to anyone who reads this. And know - as I am reminded once again now - that you are NEVER alone however dark the night may seem.
St Joseph, Terror of Demons
cast your solemn gaze upon the devil and all his minions,
and protect us with your mighty staff.
You fled through the night to avoid the devil’s wicked designs,
now with the power of God, smite the demons as they flee from you.
Grant special protection, we pray, for children, fathers, families and the dying.
By God’s grace, no demon dare approach while you are near.
So we beg of you, always be near us.
Amen!!
Saint Joseph, most chaste spouse to our Blessed Mother and compassionate Father to our Lord, may you pray for all families on earth and in Heaven, and may you teach us the virtues of your Holy Family.

As a man who aspires to be a father one day, this homily was deeply illuminating and inspiring. I look at my own father as a tremendous example of how to protect your most cherished gifts, as did St. Joseph.

I have been praying to St. Joseph for a long time because he has the virtues that this world lacks...obedience and humility. He did everything God told him to do and at the same time, so humble that nothing much was said about him...if that is not obedience and humility at the highest level, I don't know what is! ST. I love St Joseph to death. I pray to him every morning and evening. And I see the importance in silence. But I also think too much silence is a bad thing. Our church is dying because we can't communicate well.
I like St Joseph because he could communicate so clearly he didn't even need to use words. And I think he has something to teach us about that.
“Good thing the terror of demons is on our side”. Good thing indeed.

Pope Francis declared a whole year on meditating on all these qualities of St. Joseph and he is a great devotee of St. Joseph. May he intercede for us in this tumultuous time in the life of the Church.

So many young men, quietly supporting their families, loving their children, protecting and planning for the family's future are denigrated by feminism and it's altered sense of reality. We need to support these young men and praise them for their selflessness. Like Joseph, they are a blessing to this world.

I welcome them & am happy to be able to provide them a safe place to live. Even though my work hours were cut, losing my health insurance & trying to find a place to move to in the city because of the lack of housing in our village, I'm doing what I can to help them & keep them safe.

This is an outstanding sermon (among many outstanding sermons). I became a father through adoption almost 2 decades ago, and instantly began feeling closer to St. Joseph. Today my devotion ebbs and flows, even though I need His guidance to be a proper guardian more than ever. St. Joseph is truly an amazing and powerful saint, and I am so glad to hear these inspiring words! God bless you bishop Barron in 2024!

Agree and thanks for adding your comment. I too am trying to correct past mistakes and imitate Christ. Joseph is an excellent model to examine, learn from, and to offer our prayers. God bless all the fathers out there trying to be true to their vocation as dad, husband, and example.

St Joseph’s ordinary private life with Jesus and the Blessed Mother was silent in the scriptures, but it is most illustrative. He was a craftsman, a carpenter, a teacher of Jesus and a role model, a provider. Everyday was a demonstration of holiness… sanctification of Joseph’s ordinary work and his attention to details. His daily life is very instructive for ordinary people like us. Ite ad Josef!

The silent example of St. Joseph in the Gospel of St. Matthew speaks volumes and gives us so much to consider, especially given what he did in the challenging circumstances of the ancient world. Perhaps his lack of words is an indication of how powerful his dreams are. It's masterful to think that the Body of Christ, the Word Made Flesh, was entrusted to him just as the mystical Body of Christ, the Church, continues to be under his care, giving us a great example of how to be a protector.
