What's New for 2024?
BMW has made several updates to the X5 for the 2024 model year. The exterior has been sharpened with revisions to the front grille, bumper, headlamps, taillamps, and wheel designs. The top-spec M60i model features gloss-black exterior accents, quad tailpipes, and an M logo in the grille. Both the turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six and the twin-turbo 4.4-liter V-8 engines now benefit from a new 48-volt hybrid system. The six-cylinder engine has also been further enhanced to increase its output to 375 horsepower. Despite the name change from M50i to M60i, the performance-oriented model retains its horsepower rating of 523. The xDrive45e plug-in hybrid variant has been replaced with the more powerful xDrive50e, offering 94 additional horsepower and 10 more miles of electric-only driving range, for a total of 483 horsepower and 40 miles of EV driving. Additionally, all X5 models now feature a new curved infotainment display and BMW's latest iDrive 8 software interface. The X5 is also now equipped with the Highway Assistant hands-free driving feature, previously seen in the new 7-series flagship luxury sedan.
Range, Charging, and Battery Life:
The xDrive50e model comes with a standard 25.7-kWh battery pack, capable of providing up to 40 miles of electric-only driving. The X5 can utilize the battery for speeds up to 84 mph without relying on the gasoline engine. The battery pack can be charged at home using 110-volt or 220-volt outlets, as well as at public charging stations.
Interior, Comfort, and Cargo:
The X5's interior offers ample space for adults in the first and second rows. With high-quality materials, multiple charging points, and optional luxury features, it provides a comfortable and upscale experience. Standard amenities include power-adjustable front seats, heated seats, panoramic sunroof, and dual-zone climate control. The X5 also boasts generous cargo space, accommodating 11 carry-on suitcases behind the second row and up to 26 cases with the rear seats folded.
Safety and Driver-Assistance Features:
The X5 comes equipped with standard basic driver-assistance features, including automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection and lane-departure warning. Advanced features like hands-free driving mode are available as options.
