The sedans M3's are sought after and they're also lighter and stiffer than the coupes. My next door neighbor growing up had an E36 M3 Lightweight mentioned later in the vid, think he sold it 10ish years ago. They go for crazy money these days. He got my dad into BMWs, my mom had a 98 M3 sedan that I wish they hung onto. Really fun cars to drive.

7:28 Fallbrook is a small city outside Camp Pendleton, the most populated west coast Marine base. It's about a 50/50 split in the area to get a hardly driven or driven hard vehicle there.
I'm in NC and see alot of vehicles from guys off fort Bragg and camp Legeune and they are same way, either it's a low mile cream puff or it's driven straight into the ground and fit for the scrap yard, there's not alot in the middle.

E36 M3 sedan are kinda rare.
USA sedan manual (LHD): 4,574 produced from 09/96 through 05/98. >>USA sedan automatic (LHD): 4,036 produced from 09/96 through 05/98
Nearly every other week there is a E36 M3 sedan being parted out in the Atlanta are alone for the last 10 years! There cannot be 1500 of these left on the road anymore.
By that same measure convertibles are also somewhat rare in manual. You don’t see those valued like sedans or coupes. Coupes will always be more desirable - the M3 was a coupe to begin with and the sedan e36 was a stop gap for the M5

why wouldn't you mess with an e90 335i/xi? It's a twin turbo straight-6. Easy to swap to single big turbo with bolt ons and tune. What's not to like? You can also control the torque split on the AWD system with xdelete if you get a 335xi

Because those engines turn into a nightmare if they aren't well taken care of and they are cheap and fast, so the ones for sale likely have been beat on and not well maintained.

Come on guys... Vanos is for cam timing and every engine in the e36 (except maybe the euro S50, but not 100% sure) has hydraulic lifters so no adjustments needed.

Most e36 m3s are thrashed by this point. Clean ones are skyrocketing in price. You missed the boat on e46 m3s as well. Imo neither the e36 m3 or e46 m3 are a good performance per dollar value anymore. If you dont mind elbow grease there are some e36 m3s that come up for deals but its getting harder to come by

I like the looks of a lot of bmw chassis but I can live without whatever that mess is under their hoods. I’d rather take a drop in power for an engine I can actually diagnose and fix in 2 days max.
Us market e36 m3s have an incredibly reliable engine. The usdm s52 is a tank.

I can't stand BMWs simply because of their drivers/culture. When I was a pedestrian in the city, they would charge red lights and were always the closest to hitting me. And just recently at my apartment, a BMW driver left their total POS double-parked for over TWO WEEKS, making 4 parking spaces essentially 2.
