I am 50, when i was a kid, 9 or 10 years old, my dad used to buy storm windows and doors in Camden, seemed like back then most houses were boarded up, and we went early in the morning, my dad figured that was the safest time to go. I was born and raised in Camden but now live in Port st Lucie, FL. Camden now a days is mostly a ghost town with little spurts of crime in certain areas. What you see in this video is NOTHING compared to how it was around 2004. I'm from 28th and Federal in East Camden. Trust me when I say, EVERYTHING you see in this video in the daytime or nighttime is Camden at its best. Back around 2004 Camden was boomin with gangs and crime all over the city. In todays Camden and what you see in this video are the result of brand new surveillance cameras on every corner and the new Camden Metro PD that have implimented gunshot sound software, so police can pinpoint where a shooter was located. Camden has never been pretty in all my 30 years of life, but in the recent videos you see of Camden are very tame compared to what it was like when I was coming up.

I grew up near Camden.... I worked for a construction company. We were contracted, to build a skating rink. We built the rink, it was supposed to bring people together, help the economy..... one week, after completion, we had to go back, to repair a dozen bullet holes in the walls. No Shit. On the bright side, it kept ME working.

I have lived in Camden all my life and there is a lot of drugs and killings here that people on the news never report and nothing much is done ,but also a lot of wonderful ,proud people live here we take care of our streets we clean our neighborhoods with no help from city or police ,so don’t down us all because he rode around one part of city.
I saw a lady at one point near the beginning using a push broom to clean the area in front of her building. I believe you. Most cities have old, run-down areas (I live in Cleveland) but the difference is in keeping trash picked up.
That's a damn lie, maybe certain parts but dog certain parts of Philly are as slummy and worst as it gets. In term of urban decay certain hoods in Camden, Philly, Detroit, New Orleans, Baltimore and the Westside of Chicago have the most dilapidation in the USA by far. But overall in terms of land mass, the Southside of Chicago has the most ghetto urban decay because it's the biggest area of urban plight in the USA. In terms of percentage, I'd say the Westside because it's population is around 600K which makes it bigger than the city of ATL but it's like 80% nothing but poverty. Camden and the other cities I've mentioned sans the Eastside of Detroit can't compare because they are too small. Overall, Chicago and Detroit are the most ghetto American cities in terms of sheer poverty. There are places like Gary or East St. Louis that look worse or have higher crime rates but you can drive for like 30 blocks in some places in Chicago and STILL be in the ghetto. This Camden shit is horrible and I feel for the people but growing up in Chicago and having traveled I've seen nothing that compares to Chicago or Detroit in terms of large-scale poverty and decay.
I drove thru there on the way to Atlantic City. I stopped at a stop sign and across the street I saw a dude try to steal some dope from the stash spot. About three dudes saw him chased him, caught him, and beat his ass!!

Thanks Charlie.Did alot of work in camden and its fuuuuked up.I have walked downtown Camden for lunch and never had a problem.I was driving past skid row recently and its sad man.Heroin and crack killed this town after the devastating loss of manufacturing jobs.But the waterfront and some other small parts of Camden are actually nice and becoming nicer.
I grow up here the first 12 yrs of my life , 1960-72 ,,, I have been going back every year since 97 ,,, I stay in Philly at the first hotel over the Ben Frank bridge ,, same hotel same room over looking Camden ,,, its my home ,,,its my hood ,,, and its all I knew at one time ,, as of today time just stop back in the early 70s,,,,, I hope some day to do something great for Camden ,, even growing up in such a bad place ,, there was a happy time for myself

Wow, I used to commute right past here to and from Manhattan and Morristown. It always looked really cute with lots of victorians and tidy yards... who knew what it was like away from the railway station.

In 1964 and fresh back from overseas and the Army I took a job as bill collector in Camden. Our hot night was Friday, payday and I would hit the bars all over Camden to collect payments. It was a lot of fun for a few years, but it was sort of dangerous. I could tell you some wild stories.

And this is where they put the famous battleship USS New Jersey. Tourists are told to go straight to the ship and not wonder off. Multitudes more people can enjoy this historic ship if she was mored at Liberty Island. And it would be safer as well.
The only good thing Camden has going for it is its nice waterfront across from Philly. It’s a safe area with several nice entertainment options (Adventure Aquarium, Battleship New Jersey, BB&T Pavilion). Once you go a few blocks inland, it begins to look like a war zone full of neglected neighborhoods with crumbling streets and buildings. The city has been in decay for decades and doesn’t have the resources to handle the problems. Crime, drugs, poverty, a failing school system and corruption are rampant. Several mayors and many police officers have gone to prison for corruption. In fact, the city’s police department was disbanded in 2012-2013 with about half the force either laid off or voluntarily quitting and taken over by the county. Unfortunately, there doesn’t appear to be any end in sight for Camden as it continues to fall into ruin despite millions of dollars of financial aid coming from the State. If you just stick with the waterfront, you’ll be fine.
No place in America should ever look like this. Years of segregation both expressed in law and later through housing and employment discrimination. Maybe we should bail out Camden’s citizens who have lost everything because of a failed system, and not the top earners getting tax cuts.

I don’t fear these streets sad to say I’m use it but i understand why others would be scared it’s far from a friendly place. I grew up near Camden.... I worked for a construction company. We were contracted, to build a skating rink. We built the rink, it was supposed to bring people together, help the economy..... one week, after completion, we had to go back, to repair a dozen bullet holes in the walls. No Shit. On the bright side, it kept ME working.

I saw a lady at one point near the beginning using a push broom to clean the area in front of her building. I believe you. Most cities have old, run-down areas (I live in Cleveland) but the difference is in keeping trash picked up.

That's a damn lie, maybe certain parts but dog certain parts of Philly are as slummy and worst as it gets. In term of urban decay certain hoods in Camden, Philly, Detroit, New Orleans, Baltimore and the Westside of Chicago have the most dilapidation in the USA by far. But overall in terms of land mass, the Southside of Chicago has the most ghetto urban decay because it's the biggest area of urban plight in the USA. In terms of percentage, I'd say the Westside because it's population is around 600K which makes it bigger than the city of ATL but it's like 80% nothing but poverty. Camden and the other cities I've mentioned sans the Eastside of Detroit can't compare because they are too small. Overall, Chicago and Detroit are the most ghetto American cities in terms of sheer poverty. There are places like Gary or East St. Louis that look worse or have higher crime rates but you can drive for like 30 blocks in some places in Chicago and STILL be in the ghetto. This Camden shit is horrible and I feel for the people but growing up in Chicago and having traveled I've seen nothing that compares to Chicago or Detroit in terms of large-scale poverty and decay.

The only good thing Camden has going for it is its nice waterfront across from Philly. It’s a safe area with several nice entertainment options (Adventure Aquarium, Battleship New Jersey, BB&T Pavilion). Once you go a few blocks inland, it begins to look like a war zone full of neglected neighborhoods with crumbling streets and buildings. The city has been in decay for decades and doesn’t have the resources to handle the problems. Crime, drugs, poverty, a failing school system and corruption are rampant. Several mayors and many police officers have gone to prison for corruption. In fact, the city’s police department was disbanded in 2012-2013 with about half the force either laid off or voluntarily quitting and taken over by the county. Unfortunately, there doesn’t appear to be any end in sight for Camden as it continues to fall into ruin despite millions of dollars of financial aid coming from the State. If you just stick with the waterfront, you’ll be fine.

We had 2 car deep covered Carport and enjoyed BBQ and parties back there, that was our second hangout in the Summer. When I cleaned up back there I would go to 3 are more neighbors house on the left and right side of our house. Sweep up glass and any other thing the trash truck drop off their truck.Why because I did not want it to blow in the back of my parents house. My neighbors made out, and most of the time they would come joined my 14 year old self at the time. We had a very clean middle class predominantly Black folk neighborhood. Medium-term GDP growth should rebound to 5.8% in 2018 and 6.1% in 2019 respectively dependent on completion of ongoing infrastructure projects, resolution of slow credit growth, strengthening of the global economy and tourism.
In the long-term, adoption of prudent macroeconomic policies will help safeguard Kenya’s robust economic performance. This includes implementation of fiscal and monetary prudence and lowering deficit down to 4.3% by FY19/20 as per the Medium Term Fiscal Framework. The fiscal consolidation needs to avoid compromising public investments in critical infrastructure key to unlocking the economy’s productive capacity.
In addition to aligning fostering economic development through the country’s development agenda to the long-term development plan; Vision 2030, the President in December outlined the “Big Four” development priority areas for his final term as President. Ghana sits on the Atlantic Ocean and borders Togo, Cote d'Ivoire, and Burkina Faso. It has a population of about 29.6 million (2018). In the past two decades, it has taken major strides toward democracy under a multi-party system, with its independent judiciary winning public trust. Ghana consistently ranks in the top three countries in Africa for freedom of speech and press freedom, with strong broadcast media in particular, and radio the medium with the greatest reach. Factors such as these provide Ghana with solid social capital.
A year after being elected President in a peaceful election, President Akufo-Addo has had some challenges. fulfilling his election pledges-including setting up a factory in each of the nation’s 216 districts, one dam for every village and providing free high school education. Though the government has started implementing some of its promises, such as planting for food and for jobs, and the free secondary education. The authorities need to pay attention to proper fine tuning and funding in the years ahead.
Recent Economic Developments
Ghana’s economic performance improved significantly in 2017 after a difficult 2016. The fiscal deficit dropped to 6% of gross domestic product (GDP) in 2017 from 9.3% in 2016, underpinned by serious fiscal consolidation efforts. Despite that total revenue (including grants) underperformed by 1.1% of GDP, the fiscal turnaround was achieved primarily through expenditure cuts (1.3% of GDP), which were imposed on recurrent and capital expenditures. The government also capped transfers to Earmarked Funds at 25% of tax revenues. The primary balance improved from a deficit in 2016 to a surplus of 0.8% of GDP in 2017. The debt to GDP ratio is estimated at 69.2% in December 2017 down from 73.4% in 2016 reflecting a slowdown in the rate of external debt accumulation, as well as higher GDP growth. Domestic revenue mobilization is a key priority for the government, and the World Bank supports these efforts through technical assistance to the Ghana Revenue Authority.
According to the Ghana Statistical Service latest numbers released in April 2018, Ghana’s economy is estimated to have expanded by 8.5% in 2017 from 3.6% a year ago driven by the mining and oil sectors. Oil production rose strongly because the Offshore Turret Remediation Project was deferred from 2017 to 2018. In addition to this one-off effect, gold output remained high, and while cocoa production levels remained stable. Still, non-oil growth declined to 4.8% from 5.1% in 2016 as growth in the services sector decelerated in 2017.

Botswana is located at the center of southern Africa, positioned between South Africa, Namibia, Angola, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. One of the world’s poorest countries at independence in 1966, it rapidly became one of the world’s development success stories. Significant mineral (diamond) wealth, good governance, prudent economic management and a relatively small population of more than two million, have made it an upper middle-income country. The World Bank’s engagement is focused on helping it consolidate its progress while addressing a range of persistent and emerging challenges.
Political Context
Botswana has a stable political environment with a multi-party democratic tradition. General elections are held every five years. The ruling Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) has been in power since 1966. With the end of his second five-year term, President Ian Khama stepped down and, as per convention, the Vice-President (Mokgweetsi Eric Masisi) assumed the Presidency on April 1 and will stand for the Presidency in the next general elections.
Economic Overview
Since gaining independence from Britain, Botswana has been one of the world’s fastest growing economies, averaging 5% per annum over the past decade. Its reliance on commodities renders it vulnerable to international market fluctuations. Economic activity is expected to intensify to 4.5% in 2017, up to 4.8% by 2019. Economic growth will be driven by the mining activity, construction, services sector and intensified public investments.
The National Budget for 2018/19 was passed. Presented to Parliament on February 5, 2018, the new budget puts total expenditure and net lending at P67.87 billion (33.4% of gross domestic product (GDP)), an increase of P8.3 billion (1.3%) compared to the previous fiscal year. The (capital) budget is P19.31 billion, up by P2.4 billion (16.6%) over the previous fiscal year. A budget deficit of P3.59 billion (1.8% of GDP) is expected despite the positive domestic economic outlook.
Fiscal spending will continue to advance at today’s more-rapid pace, with priority for areas identified in the National Development Plan 11 (NDP11) that focuses in three key areas:(i) tackling poverty, (ii) inclusive growth, and (iii) job creation
