Thanks for all these little treasures. I went to the UK recently from Australia, and had great fun finding some of the places you've had in your videos. You've got a beautiful country!
@@Brittishbrute it was fantastic! The Cotswolds must be the prettiest place in the world, and Yorkshire is s an amazing place too. Thanks for your reply!

On the edge of the town I come from in Surrey is a village called Horsell, there used to be an old garage, complete with old style petrol pumps called Bensteads Garage (I went to school with a Benstead so the family were still around then). The garage is still there, converted now to a house. Around the back of the garage, painted on the wall in about ten inch letters was 'Horsell HQ'. It was the base for the home guard during the war. That writing could be seen still in the mid 80s. This video has basically reminded me of something I'd forgotten. I'm back in Surrey in a few weeks so I'm going to have a look to see if it's still there.
I’m hoping to see Lady Jane Gray’s name that her husband allegedly carved into the wall of his prison cell at The Tower of London. I can’t recall the exact date of his and her demise but I know it was roughly mid 1500s.
Lots of old churches have graffiti in the door jamb. Never painted or sanded because the door wouldn't fit so loads are usually there. Exeter cathedral has a lot.
Stately Grace proportionate to an elevation of stature within a community. That alone is beautiful. Housing allies makes it all the more special to me.
My Grandfather took me to his primary school reunion many years ago, he was born in 1917.... Many of the original buildings were still in use, he showed me where someone had thrown his school had down an air vent, and on the outside of the building, at a similar height to the graffitti you showed, where the kids would rub their pencils to sharpen them, leaving grooves on the brickwork :)

In my Junior High School, we lined up against the outside wall for cafeteria lunch. Kids took their coins and carved little coin sized rounded holes in the red brick wall. Either a new hole or a continuation of an existing hole.

The oldest Graffiti I've seen is outside Canterbury Cathedral. Peter Baron 1680 is carved into a wall. The style of the writing makes it look genuine.

At Stow minster church in lincs there is a carving of a viking boat scratched into the wall, probably 10th century.

It’s not as over grown as it used to be! And also keep in mind it being so over grown has helped keep the tombs from vandalism
Thought it might have been Kilroy-ed.

Bluecoat schools for the poor.
20th century version, Pontins. Bluecoats holidays for the poor
I would suggest at least some of those grooves were from the sharpening of slate pencils.
What a wonderful story in a great location in London. A less intrusive improvement on the more conventional American graffiti, “Kilroy was here”! :)
