Group B brought all together in one basket the most skilled drivers of all time and the best rally cars ever built, to see them all together drivers and cars, a one in a life time opportunity that will never be repeated again.
The T16 may not have been the most spectacular of the Gp B cars, but, purely due phenomenal handling, it was the greatest of all. Audi S1 and Delta S4: brutality. T16: results!
@@TheFede8888 I'm very sad for Henry and Sergio but it was their mistake. The championships are won or lost with or without mistakes. Lancia had 2 big champions as Miki and Markku for all championship. The problem of s4 was only Henry was able to drive it at 100% (big trouble for a racing car). 205 was easier to drive and it won.
I used to dream about WRC cars, i used to love the 206 WRC and my favorite car is Evo 9. but i had wet dreams with evo 6. Now I dont even know how is on WRC anymore, i think mini is there. we used to have TV programs about WRC i used to watch with my family, now... couldnt care less. its really dying. if not dead already.
@CharlieWhiskey63 Don't forget Timo Salonen who was also an all time great (maybe a bit chunky for a race driver) but could drive to the limit. I read one of his interviews a few years back and he claimed the 205T16 Evo2 could max out 620hp without any problem with over 3.0bar of boost. The pug engineers asked their drivers if they wanted anymore power in the car and they all said 'no thanks, we have enough already!' 205T16 was all Jean Todt's idea. You can see the F1 in the car in the layout.
The final T16 evo2's had 550hp running 3.0 bar of boost. They were far too quick for the Audi and more than a match and just as powerful if not more than the S4 (was proven). Anyway, both manufacturers planned to replace all their cars for the proposed Group S. The T16 was the best Group B car.
@@philip_si Bullshit. E2s made 450hp in Group competition spec. It was the best car because it was reliable and handled well, not because it was the most powerful.
I agree, the Audi was probably more powerful but handles badly with too high weight centering, every corner is a pain, very difficult and then tiring to drive. The 205 was in comparison a ballet dancer.
The S4 could accelerate quicker to 100, but the T16 could take on bends and hold the road without having to slow down like the S4 and once on full boost it was like a rocket. Juha Kankunnen describes the differences between both cars on a video on RUclips and says the T16 was better. And he drove for both teams winning world championships.
In 1986 the lancia lost the best driver and probably the future Champion...in Portugal was first but the race it's stopped...I think that Lancia s4 was the best
@herencnecht I would dispute this about the S4 being a better car. Everyone that knows anything about Group B knows the S4 had twin induction, but the T16 Evo2's had a turbocharger that was really from an F1 car and in past interviews with the designer of the T16 Jean Todt has claimed it could max 800hp if required. Even Timo Salonen used to run his at 620 at times when needed. I like the S4, but the 205 was better and it's record proves that fact.
Lady's and gentleman welcome to the real world of true rallying NOT the word of a sport called WRC,real rallying is now EXTINCT. Once called GROUP B,nevertheless the above WRC is a help if you suffer will insomnia, as it is a great help in assisting you to the world of SLEEP I think many watching will agree. I rest my Case, have a good day.
That time was the greatest! The FIA have ruined rallying with their media freindly (i.e. money making) policies. Vatenen, Toivenen, Blomqvist, Mouton, Rohl, Schwartz, Kankunnen et al entertained us with their endurance as much as their skill in these brutal machines, compared to todays 'F1 on gravel' marketing crap
Everyone who is complaining - move to NZ and build an "open" rally sprint car. The only place cars like this are feasable is when they are raced and driven by enthousiasts! If you like rally, road racing (tt) etc there is nowhere better to live!
Fantastic car and driver. Back then you wanted to watch rally 24 hours per day. Now i don't really care (allthough Loeb has broken every record) even if modern cars suppose to be equally fast and much safer. Where has the thrill of these days gone?
Simple. Two step process Step 1. All rally cars must be a real production model Step 2. All must be RWD only. Hey presto, rally is worth watching again Although, the manufacturers would never go for that, coz it'd be too expensive. All we'd end up with is BMW 1series Diesels rallying and that would suck worse! lol
Yeah, I've always considered Loeb to be a champion in a watered down WRC field with no manufacturers (it was mostly just Citroen and Ford) and young drivers looking to do other forms of racing instead.
WRC until 2010 was a good formula, but they need more commitment from car's manifacturers... Broup B is nowadays unfeasible. Personally I don't agree with 2011 WRC regulations.
You're missing the point... I've haven't said otherwise. If you rad Chemkouv's comment you'll see that he states that no matter the HP, french engines have the best sound. And I wrote a comment saying that Italian engines sound better in my opinion. End of the story...
Well do you know why Group B's are banned? Because THEY ARE TOO FAST. So if the group B was banned for being too fast. and current DS3 and WRC aren't. That means the current cars are too slow.
French made the best hot hatches. This is on another level compared to anything else, imagine the feel you get in that vehicle.
God, I wish I could get back to the late 80's and see Ari Vatanen again in action with that exquisite piece of machinery that was the 205 :)
Personally,my favorite Peugeot ever made. And that sound-epic.Too bad Group B was banned.

Dont forget the mechanics and engineers bro !!!!!!!
The T16 was a wonderful car anyway, but the moment with the 'thoroughbred' Porsche topped it all. Wonderful footage. Many thanks.
This era of rallying was the best ever!
I am so glad to have seen a Group B 206-T16 homologation in person at the Rally of Tall Pines in Bancroft, Ontario this past weekend.
The Killers couple of the Audi Quattro ^^
That beast in EA:s WRC game in Acropolis rally. I scared that and falling love same time. That absolutly insane combo.😁
205t16 ??? the best car rally ever!
The T16 may not have been the most spectacular of the Gp B cars, but, purely due phenomenal handling, it was the greatest of all. Audi S1 and Delta S4: brutality. T16: results!

Damn... what untamed, crazy beasts those cars were. Current rally really needs some of that back again.
ha et surtout on remercie les spectateur qui se sont foutu en plein milieu des piste et qui en conséquence on provoqués la mort du groupe b bravo!!!!

550 at 3 bar?
550 at low boost...
2 bars maybe, at 2,6 bars it produced 600+ and at 3 bars 700+.

Wonder what sort of a fight the old 205 T16 would put up against a current DS3 or Mini WRC?
