I am loving all of these Agatha Christie reactions/reviews! Please keep them coming. This was not one of my favorite Christie adaptations but I do love Peter Ustinov in this role. He brings a certain fun and sense of humor to the role that is not found in the pages of the books (at least I don't think) and not really found in the other actors' interpretations. I would say David Suchet is much more subtle with his sense of humor as Poirot whereas Ustinov is often downright jolly, if that makes sense.

Thank you my man! Yea Ustinov is like a fun Uncle Poirot and Suchet is more about getting right down to business both have places but yea I like the brightness Ustinov brings

Been looking for your reaction/review of “Dead Man’s Folly” to drop since last weekend.
I like all of the Ustinov/Poirot films, maybe because he’s having so much fun acting in them-I have a feeling he would do them even if they paid him minimum wage. LOL.
As for this film, I didn’t like it as much as “Thirteen at Dinner” but “Folly” does have great twists, and kept me guessing-I thought the American music guy was more involved in the actual murders. I made the connection between the “dead son” and Poirot’s request for info from the military. The pre-"Desperate Housewives” Nicollette Sheridan was viewed as a rising star, but was under-used in “Folly.” Once again, it's a Christie story that effectively uses the “fake character” plot device-times two.
I wasn’t bothered by moving the time period of any of the Ustinov/Poirot films. Maybe because I watched the films, first; then read the Christie stories.
My fav Ustinov/Poirot film was “Death on the Nile” though “Murder in Three Acts” is a very close second-because of the outstanding performance by Tony Curtis, and the take-your-breath-away beauty of Emma Samms.
Finally, to the Big Question of “Favorite Poirot” my ranking is: Peter Ustinov is #1; Kenneth Branagh is #2; David Suchet is #3; and Albert Finney comes in last.
P.S.-Have you reviewed the 1980 film of Christie’s “The Mirror Crack’d”? It has Angela Lansbury as Miss Marple (really an audition for “Jessica Fletcher”); and with knock-out performances by Elizabeth Taylor & Kim Novak, as dueling divas. Plus, Rock Hudson, Tony Curtis, and Geraldine Chaplin. It’s a very entertaining romp; with a final twist that you probably won’t see coming.

Well glad I finally got it up and you can thank RUclips for the delay
And yea maybe if I read the books I’d have an easier time with the time switch to the 80s but I think my big problem with it is you can’t have Poirot be what ever age he is in the 30s then still be that age in the 80s it don’t make no sense stop playing with my emotions Hollywood
Omg yes that is home girl from Desperate housewives how crazy!!
Ohh hot take with Kenneth as #2 most people are not fond of him but he was my first Poirot so I def have a special liking for him
Yes I have def seen mirror cracked it was soo good and I def wanna break it down like I did with evil under the sun and thirteen at dinner
And murder in three acts will be the same way that one def gave me a tough time thinking about and yes how could I forget Tony Curtis in both he’s so over the top and good
Both will be coming up on the channel mark my word

Well it's not one of my favorite Ustinov Poirot movies, but it has it's moments. If i remember correctly when i first saw it, I think i was about half way there figuring it out. Girl in wig check. Guy likes to swim check. But the motive was difficult to find. Not checked at all.

So far my favs from him are Evil Under the sun and Death on the Nile
Yea I knew something was off about homegirl and the dude he had to be the one
He threw me off a little but once I sat down with it he was the only one who made sense

Did you ever see Deathtrap from 1982 with Micheal Caine and Christopher Reeve? It’s a great murder mystery whodunnit. I think you would enjoy.

No I haven’t yet but it’s on my list to cover on this channel because it’s def been recommended a lot so look out for that one up the road
Immediately next is a small vid on the mirror cracked then gonna breakdown scream and highlight the who dunnit murder mystery aspects of atleast the first two

I agree with Deathtrap. It’s a really fun film. I love the early scenes filmed in the Broadway theater district.
Also, Caine & Reeve really went for it, performance-wise; shattering their established screen personas.
It’s not really a whodunit, more of a cat-and-mouse film like Sleuth; and my fav section of the film is the “transition scenes” in the middle, when each of the characters’ self-interests changes the narrative.

    • @NerdsAtNite
      @NerdsAtNite  4 месяца назад

Yea I figured that was the case but I reacted to Sleuth on here and this falls right in line with that from what I know about the film
