The man in Texas who put the abortifacient into his wife's water wasn't successful. He tried it several times and the baby ended up being born prematurely with SEVERE defects that will shorten their life span and basically make their life pretty awful to live. The wife also almost died because of the poisoning. But yeah, the dude only spends 180 days in jail. I don't care what side of the abortion argument you fall on, the dude received a ridiculously light sentence for what he did to his wife and child.

My stepdad is ex military, airborne, paratrooper, etc. Very lovely and kind man, but tough as nails. He likes to tell a story about being down in the US for a joint training operation with some tough guy US troops. Delta? I can't remember exactly, but tough guys. Their top instructor was talking about how to deal with an attacker with a knife. He said: Step back with your lead foot, pivot 180, and run. That MF is going to stab you! Even the baddest of the bad would rather run from a fight like that than engage.

    • @rynther

Any good martial arts tend to emphasize avoiding a conflict, and engaging in combat only if there is no way to avoid it. In the military it might be a bit harder to avoid, but even when sparring, shit can happen, it's inherently unsafe. My favorite line is from kung fu "the attacker must vindicate, the defender, merely survive".

I think it depends. A guy with a knife who knows what he’s doing, yeah. But someone with proficiency in a fighting style like Krav Maga could disarm one thug with a knife. I think it would, under certain circumstances, even be possible to defeat two guys.
In my city there was actually a guy who beat up two guys who tried to rob him, unarmed though. They even tried to sue him for assault. But I believe there were witnesses who backed his side of the story.
And my coworker was involved in a fight where a group of 5-6 people tried to attack 3 guys one of which was armed with a knife and had it already in his hand.
One guy attacked him, or well tried and failed miserably, as he ran straight into the knife the other guy held in front of him.
The guy stabbed himself with a guy another person was holding.
And again the attacker tried to sue but there were countless witnesses who watched the guy charge into the knife. And the guy having the knife out because of self defence.
What I want to say is, a lot of thugs are stupid and incompetent. And if you are able to realise that, you’ll be able to defend yourself against them even if they’re two on one(max one of them armed). Given you know exactly what you’re doing.
But that’s it. Even 3 unarmed guys if you’re especially lucky. More than that. Impossible.

Yikes… cotton is NOT easy to harvest. It’s extremely hard on your hands and the sharp, dry leaves and tough twigs of the cotton plant can rip your hands to shreds. Not only that, but the plants only grow about 3 feet high, which means you’re working all day in the hot, humid, southern summer hunched over for hours upon hours at a time. Basically, it’s like disentangling a cotton ball from a short pile of fish hooks.

@@True_NOON yeah, I’ve seen cotton fields and visited some old plantations when I lived in the south. They’re not thorn bushes, per se, but when the cotton is ready to be harvested, the bushes have basically dried out completely, and the vines/branches are super tough and thin, and the leaves around the cotton bolls are sharp kinda like broken peanut shells. Picking a few isn’t going to hurt you, it’s not comfortable but not particularly painful, but if that’s all you’re doing for a long time, it’s going to take a major toll on your hands.

They are a product of the company they work for and they have to be perfect. They have to give the appearance that they are obtainable and that they *could* be available to fall in love with a random fan in order to keep fans' attention. Yes, medical licenses being provoked is quite literally stupid to do, but it’s with the intent of giving women little to no autonomy over their bodies.
So I can’t really say with good faith that either are comparable for different reasons: they both affect livelyhoods. One of them could completely damage a woman’s body through the non-professional abortion, which has been proven to have up to a 60% rate of a woman dying from such complications when not with a trained professional.
      So no, having agency stripped of you is the only common occurrence in both outcomes, but if the doctor is a guy, he won’t have to ever worry about not being able to have the choice to get a vasectomy and the such. Both of which were working moms who valued the time saving aspect higher than the cost of paper towels and napkins. Later generations simply reevaluate this cost-benefit-couple but also weigh in new aspects of environmental concerns, but one of the core drives for this reevalutation are rising costs of living that limit their money resource;

My first expereince with it was my maternal great-granddad back in the 70s. I know treatment isn't the same as it was back then, but it still helped him. Instead of dying only weeks after learning about it, he lasted some years. Yes, he got sick a lot, and the cancer spread, but he made his life loving with frequent visits from us (great-) grandkids and was always laughing with us. Some people don't understand that crying is a human thing. As a young girl, I was extremely emotional in every situation due to being in a highly dangerous home. When I was getting bullied in 3rd grade, I broke down crying only to have my bullies make fun of how I looked crying. It made me uncomfortable when I got emotional around other people, and made me not able to cry around other people without feeling like an idiot and attention seeking. 40:40 They did, it’s called Song of The South. A Mary Poppins-esque movie with both animated characters and live action actors, depicting a story of slavery in a bizarrely positive light, romanticizing plantation life and making it look like the black people were happy and content with life, telling stories, singing songs and giving advice to the white kids whose families they worked for. Worst of all, they never seemed upset or angry about their lives, but rather blissfully at ease and patronizingly, infantilizingly happy with everything.

I feel like society in 1st world countries has a very distorted view of what "fighting" truly is. People's experience with fights are either through media, which is the romanticization of violence, or they participate in "agreed" fights, where people follow a set of rules to not hurt each other too harshly- Neither of these group of people understand the danger of what real fights truly is, where there's no such thing as rules, one wrong move and you're dead, not hurt, not injured- DEAD.
Plus on the story, THE OLD MAN DID FIGHT, he just lost, lost the fight, lost his pride- but thankfully, if we can even be thankfully on such an horrendous occasion, didn't lose neither his or his wife's life.

Clarification on "Texas Math": The husband was somehow worse at being a poisoner than he was at being a husband, so both the mother and child are alive and well (though the daughter has developmental delays). The original charge would have been a felony attempt to induce abortion, but the attorney successfully pled down to injury to a child and assault on a pregnant woman, both misdemeanors. In addition to 180 days in jail, he has 10 years' probation and an ongoing restraining order from contacting the mother and/or child in any way.

    A) An easy platform to argue about to aging traditional Christians that don't understand women's health or the science of conception
    B) A way to subjugate women. If the woman consents she and everyone who helps her is a sinner and a criminal, but because the woman didn't consent she's "spared punishment" because she's technically a victim, the man then also gets a lighter sentence because there's no incentive to demean his authority compared to a doctor.

When I was doing self-defence classes a few years ago they gave us an intensive weekend long course once a year where they would put us in two-on-one armed situations, and they wouldn't divide the class according to gender or weight/size, because they told us unfortunately in the real world its highly likely that you're going to be attacked by more than one person, by someone bigger and stronger than you, or by a man if you're a woman.
Regardless of the skill level of the participants (and we had some highly experienced martial artists in that group), in a two on one it was almost impossible for anyone to "win" the fight. The best we could hope for was to escape the situation.
No-one with any real world experience at *actual* fighting would ever think one guy could win against seven attackers, even if they weren't armed. They don't form a circle and attack one at a time like in the movies!

The feet commercial is of people who the group perceives as good(predominantly straight white conservative Christian’s) washing the feet of people they perceive as bad(pretty much anyone who isn’t straight white or Christian).

    • @viktorbazina

I mean it kinda is. If someone of a specific group does something bad, and someone who hates that group finds out about it they can be like "YOU SEE, ALL OF X GROUP IS EVIL, THIS IS THE PROOF YOU'VE BEEN ASKING FOR, WE SHOULD REMOVE ALL OF THEIR RIGHTS!" Of course Rowling herself probably does this to trans people, which is why she's wants to pin this on the trans community, it puts the "blame" on trans people, and as such allows her to more easily demonise them.

I mean statistically men commit more crimes than women... So there is probably logic that transgender women committing crimes pump statistics numbers...
Whats funny in this logic is that even thou men do statistically commit more violent crimes... Women tend to be more violent when committing the crimes... So technically transgender women still fit the bill...
Not to mention its actually handy for cis women - as lots of men stalking and attacking women does that cause they fell safe to do so... Xd
If women violent crime rates will go up lots of those sassy boys will calm down cause they be afraid to end up in a blender...
But yeah it is a standing argument on many platforms that transgender women committing crimes shouldn't go into "women statistics" 🫣
