I saw on Twitter a man commented that he was a big Final Fantasy fan and that he wanted to introduce his four year old son to the series. However he felt that FFXV had monsters that may be two intense for a child to see without getting scared. However with the pocket edition kids could play and get into the franchise. So I guess the game can be good in that department.
Rustyhound There’s a difference though between teaching your kids that there are a lot of bad people in the world and showing them scary games that make them develop irrational fears of monsters that don’t exist
For someone who used to play FF back in the days and now working full time with 2 kids, the Pocket Edition is a godsend, allowing me to experience the FFXV story with my limited free time. I would never buy another console (at least not until my son grows up and probably becomes a gamer himself lol.)
I work over in the x-ray department here at my local hospital. Sometimes I get lazy bringing portable game systems over so when this game came along I immediately downloaded it and fell in love with it. Really simple to use, Easy controls and pretty fun. I did finish the Final Fantasy game over on console and am enjoying this version.
"I'm someone who has spent over 100 hours in the original Final Fantasy 15". Most of those hours were spent traversing a large empty map doing endless fetch quests.
I actually enjoy this quite a bit. My biggest complaint with the original game is the awful magic system. Crafting spells was the worst idea since the draw system from 8. Not having to deal with that is great.
The sidequests were the best thing about the game. This is just a streamlined experience a la FF13. Not necessarily a bad thing but considering the story was just badly put together, we're not left with much. That being said, it is a pocket edition, so we can't expect everything to be the same.
I disagree about how "it would be aweful on Switch". I'm playing it on switch right now I am loving it. In the absence of the full release which probably can't run (they're bringing 8 other FF games, so clearly they have no problem bringing them if they can get them to run), it's an excellent alternative.

Instead of poorly remaking the game they should have made a small side FFXV game, like the DS has FFXII Revenant Wings and the PSP had Crisis Core FFVII, a crappy version of a good game is a lot worse then a sub par spin off game... It's pretty good. It's a more cutesy (albeit more linear) version of FFXV. I think it's actually longer than the main quest in the original FFXV (I beat it in 9 hours in 2015 because I didn't do any side content)
I'm pretty sure we'll get a Pocket Edition+ for the Switch, which will include a few extra sidequests. Speaking of which, there are sidequests in this game, but only one or two (including finding recipes) in each area.
And, in the end, this is what we got stuck with on the Switch and for $30 no less! Sure, there is that “introductory price point” of $17, but even that is way too expensive. Yeah I think the reason they didn’t include controller support is because of the tap to move/attack mechanic, if it was more like a traditional controller layout (virtual joystick to move, virtual buttons to attack) it would be easier for them to add controller support. I heard the devs from Cat Quest basically had the same issue

I played the game on a weekend through the end. Now trying to max out achiements. Once that's done I'm not sure there's anything to keep playing for other than to see the story again. The music is great. Sometimes glitches on my phone but it's not super new. All in all I liked it. I grew up playing FF and now I've played this game in which a character hums the old battle end song and wants to go back to the hotel to play video games 😂

Even its useless sidequest, still it is make us feel glad that we finish ton of side quest.The other thing that make FF gamr good is grinding.Grinding for level,grinding for loot that make a equipment through side quest is the best.
I'm glad this is out on Switch! My room is the hottest one in the house so my PS4 hasn't gotten much use lately.. Now I can at least play the story on the go until it cools off enough to enjoy the actual game.
Good news and bad news. The Switch version uses this graphics but has close to the controls of the original if not the exact same. Bad news is that this is not true for the Windows version.
David Miiversian I have it on Switch. And I have been doing mainly main missions. (Few side quests here and there.) And according to my Switch Parental Control App (I only use it to see how many hours it takes to play games and to just say I have the app) it says I have played roughly 6 hours so far. I am in the middle of Chapter 4. So, it is still a decently lengthy game for a Mobile port.

This isn't a game for handheld with unified specs. The battery drain depends on what processor (SOC) you've got, what's your resolution, type of display and what's the size of your battery. I think I saw your phone in one of the latest videos and it seemed like some mid-end Samsung from three years ago. Apologies if that's not true but if it is of course it drained your battery so fast.
I don't think this is for people who already played the game. I think this is for people who don't have consoles or who are not really gamers so they can get a taste of the game then maybe buy it on a console later for the full eperience.
I don't know. It's pretty hard to look at Xenoblade 2, and the look at FF15 and think, "There's no way this could work." I'm thinking it would be like Doom. They'd have to make some compromises, but the overall experience would be about the same. But as I said, it doesn't mater to me because there's other RPG's that are already confirmed.

The game is an eye candy no doubt. But for a small game, I have to agree that it drains phone battery in a blink. It does justice having it named "Pocket Edition".
It's funny that this game is $40 on the Canadian PSN Store and if you want a Chibi style Final Fantasy game you can just go out and buy World of Final Fantasy for the PS Vita or the PS4.

Hundreds of sidequests? We must have played different games. There were very few sidequests and most of them were awful. There's definently 100+ sidequests if you count the hunts though, but counting them as sidequests is just sad since there's almost nothing inventive or creative with them. Not to mention the lack of any story elements in them. Don't get me wrong, I liked XV. But I'm not ignorant of its issues. Not saying anyone here is ignorant though, just speaking my mind.

I think if they added atleast some kind of basic lip movement and eye changes would have gone a long way. However the story imo was the weakest part, not the emotional and friends banter questing i just mean the over arching storyline. As im replaying it i realized that the overworld and side quests are the only reason to play it. The atmosphere and world was so cool that stripping away the openness feels.... just agravating more than anything.... might not be so badbif you didnt play the console version i guess... but whatever...

This games existence confuses me haha. It was made for mobile obviously since its called pocket edition so its a nice attempt at a mobile port of a ff game, but then after a few months they reported this phone game back to console and are charging like £30 for it haha?? It costs more on console than just getting the actual ff15 it actually baffles me. So now on console you can either get the actual game or pay £30 for the phone version on console. Im going for the platinum on every ff game and this one ssssucked, youve gotta redo missions numerous times and a grind trophy has you redoing a specific chapter around 30 times, and its a full non combat chapter, its the mission where you first arrive at the water town and are just having a nice day, gotta do it like 30 times, ive gotten so sick of hearing all the unskippable dialogue for that mission haha.
not gonna lie, I *TRIED* looking at this thing with good eyes when it was announced for the switch, but I can't get over how sh*tty it looks, I have a HUGE issue with how the characters don't even change their facial expressions. hearing that the gameplay is so stripped down makes me care for it even less. I just hope this doesn't mean Square gave up on bringing the full game to the Switch, they've commented before that they were trying to figure out a way to port it and I REALLY hope they don't think this counts as "FF15 on the Switch".

Well. For a FF fan this is a good game especially for mobile. I'd rather get this on my phone than on Switch.

Perhaps the mobile game was hamstrung to whet the appetites of those who had not played the game, or to appease those waiting for the Windows version

7 months later... Game arrived on Switch (and PS4 and XBox One). Poor Dreamcast Guy. But I'm happy, I really love this version of the game.

I have no Ps4. Cuz I only had a Ps3 ps2 psp and a ps1. So yeah.. For me I like this version not gonna lie its cute and kinda sweet and for the price rn it's okay for around 10$ Sure if I get a ps4 for cheap nowadays I will buy the ps4 version but playing this on the go everywhere why not I think they're dialogs are funny and chilled I donno I like it but sure the OG15 is better but the Ff15 we never got was even better.
they should have just made it turn based with ff3 battle system imo
Fuck turn based its slow and boring. Only ffx was okay. So much more strategy when you can mixup timings of attacks and dodge.

This isn't a game for handheld with unified specs. The battery drain depends on what processor (SOC) you've got, what's your resolution, type of display and what's the size of your battery. I think I saw your phone in one of the latest videos and it seemed like some mid-end Samsung from three years ago. Apologies if that's not true but if it is of course it drained your battery so fast.
I hated the game until this edition came out. You could actually enjoy the story like you are supposed to in a FF game
I don't think this is for people who already played the game. I think this is for people who don't have consoles or who are not really gamers so they can get a taste of the game then maybe buy it on a console later for the full eperience.
Well it happened. FFXV Pocket edition is now on the switch, and after seeing your review I kinda pissed that Switch owners don't get the OG version.

I don't know. It's pretty hard to look at Xenoblade 2, and the look at FF15 and think, "There's no way this could work." I'm thinking it would be like Doom. They'd have to make some compromises, but the overall experience would be about the same. But as I said, it doesn't mater to me because there's other RPG's that are already confirmed.

Joel Ressler square enix said that they tested it on the Switch but didn’t work so they are trying to change the engine or reduce the graphics from realistic to artistic like breath of the wild
The game is an eye candy no doubt. But for a small game, I have to agree that it drains phone battery in a blink. It does justice having it named "Pocket Edition".
Looks more like a Vita or Switch game to me.....If they can make World of Final fantasy on Vita....then they can port this w/o any problems

It's funny that this game is $40 on the Canadian PSN Store and if you want a Chibi style Final Fantasy game you can just go out and buy World of Final Fantasy for the PS Vita or the PS4.

Hundreds of sidequests? We must have played different games. There were very few sidequests and most of them were awful. There's definently 100+ sidequests if you count the hunts though, but counting them as sidequests is just sad since there's almost nothing inventive or creative with them. Not to mention the lack of any story elements in them.
Don't get me wrong, I liked XV. But I'm not ignorant of its issues. Not saying anyone here is ignorant though, just speaking my mind.

That's a high score imo I would probably give it a solid 7 cuz I kinda hated the tapping mechanics in this game, it would've been fine in combat but I wished they would've added a virtual analog touchpad like in most action mobile games to move your character around and not constantly having to stretch your fingers to where your character is going ~

I would highly suggest checking out Chaos Rings 3 as it is one of my favorite standalone offline console quality RPG on mobile and it was published by Square Enix.

I knew most would say that since they already played the superior version of this game.
I would still consider this as a playable port and at least recommend it to those who hasn't played the original, or doesn't have access to a PS4 or the upcoming PC port on contrary with what Dreamcast guy said.

I think if they added atleast some kind of basic lip movement and eye changes would have gone a long way. However the story imo was the weakest part, not the emotional and friends banter questing i just mean the over arching storyline. As im replaying it i realized that the overworld and side quests are the only reason to play it. The atmosphere and world was so cool that stripping away the openness feels.... just agravating more than anything.... might not be so badbif you didnt play the console version i guess... but whatever...

2:06 hundreds of bull***t sidequests if I may say... even thoug, those sidequests are necesary to get money and special items to empower your characters... but they're mostly trash.

It was made for mobile obviously since its called pocket edition so its a nice attempt at a mobile port of a ff game, but then after a few months they reported this phone game back to console and are charging like £30 for it haha?? It costs more on console than just getting the actual ff15 it actually baffles me.
So now on console you can either get the actual game or pay £30 for the phone version on console.
Im going for the platinum on every ff game and this one ssssucked, youve gotta redo missions numerous times and a grind trophy has you redoing a specific chapter around 30 times, and its a full non combat chapter, its the mission where you first arrive at the water town and are just having a nice day, gotta do it like 30 times, ive gotten so sick of hearing all the unskippable dialogue for that mission haha.
It's on switch and it's cool for my 7 year old.
Every side quest you know how much space that would take up on a phone
not gonna lie, I *TRIED* looking at this thing with good eyes when it was announced for the switch, but I can't get over how sh*tty it looks, I have a HUGE issue with how the characters don't even change their facial expressions. hearing that the gameplay is so stripped down makes me care for it even less.
I just hope this doesn't mean Square gave up on bringing the full game to the Switch, they've commented before that they were trying to figure out a way to port it and I REALLY hope they don't think this counts as "FF15 on the Switch".
