- Vampires are timeless creatures in every sense of the word. Mythology stemming from the fear of the undead has consumed cultures around the globe for centuries-and these stories have been forever evolving and molding together to form our modern understanding of vampires. But one ageless and undying tale stands above the rest as the quintessential vampire tale: Bram Stoker’s Dracula.

The fact that Francis Ford Coppola used practical effects and old school camera tricks from the 1930 proves how awesome it was.
Wasn’t he real close with victor salva and pay for the guy? Yea I don’t care what skill you have a chomo deserves nothing. Not even air
My favourite Dracula film.
I''m convinced this is what makes the movie work even today. Some effects are a big aged admittedly, but overall it stands the test of time.
"...Yeah, she was in great pain! Then we cut off her head, and drove a stake through her heart, and burned it, and then she found peace..."
Ladies and gentlemen of good taste inherently recognize the high quality of this fine, masterful film.
This won an Oscar for I believe best costume design, and the practical effects are insane. All the different forms of Dracula played by Gary Oldman are so epic
Watching Keanu Reeves trying to do a british accent is worth the price of admission alone!
For me, this was the best Dracula movie, most faithful to the book. This movie is also visually stunning.
One of my favorite movies. Francis Ford Coppola is a master and Gary Oldman played Dracula SO well!
his dracula origin story was 1000000x better than Darth Vader turning Sith
Dracula: "Drink my blood, and we will be together for all eternity."
Mina: "That would be most good, Dracula. Most good."
It's so OF THE PERIOD.
Just absolutely SCRUMPTIOUS.
It's got a handcrafted, operatic feel. Layered, nuanced, textured. Detailed.
FINERY. PARLORS. PALMS AND ORCHIDS. Persian Rugs and Exotic Texans. Lace collars and rivers of BLOOD.
I'ts absolutely sumptuous.
Peak 90s filmmaking.
Chefs Kiss.
I absolutely love this movie. So many genres in one, gorgeous to look at, spooky, and some of the most disturbing body horror. A true classic. I would love to see this movie is theaters with a fully restored and remastered version. Hopefully, no one ever tries to remake this movie. Unless, it’s a master at their craft like Denis Villeneuve. I would trust him to make something amazing.
I love this movie. The visuals are great and Gary Oldman’s performance is unrivaled.
This has always been my favorite Dracula Film! I'll never forget when I was little & my parents bringing home that Dracula VHS double tape! & I was so scared to watch it😂 but wanted to Soo bad! Have literally watched it 20+ times at this point 😂🤘🏽🫡
This was the first horror movie that I fell in love with and it's been my favourite movie ever since. 🥰
The Van Helsing portrayal is just bonkers and I love it for that. He appears to be a man between times and may be even an eternal, a theme that has been done more than once.
It is not just the ultimate vampire movie, it is Coppola's subtle homage to Film and film making itself. It is his greatest masterpiece after The Godfather films and Apocalypse Now. The cast (apart from objectively poor Keanu) is magnificent; Oldman and Hopkins leading the way, Winona Ryder is at her best, the art direction is still unique and unsurpassed, the camera floats, the editing is impeccable, practical effects at their peak, the score by Wojciech Kilar is gloriously epic, scary and tragic all at once, the story is changed but brilliantly adapted and the outcome was a strange, wonderful amalgamation of horror, romance, thriller, epic, history and drama! A unique movie in the history of cinema - when Copolla is at his peak, or at his best history is always written! Lets hope that goes for his upcoming Megalopolis. Thank you for a great video 😍
This Dracula is my favorite vampire movie of all time!! Gary Oldman was simply Brilliant as Vlad/Dracula this cast was amazing the art and style was spot on!!
This is BY FAR my favourite film version of Dracula...and the way it was so true to the novel while aslo adding the story of Dracula/Vlad and Elizabeta/Mina is really one reason for that...
If it were not for the music score..I don't think this film would have been as successful ❤❤❤. I wanted to walk out but the music kept me in my seat, the accents (Ryder and Reeves) were atrocious 😂. The special effects were cool.❤
i still remember seeing it in the theater when it came out 🌲 such a beautiful film on so many levels
Renfield was awesome
thank you wiccan tumblr
@@KimFromTheCrypt I don't care who knows it
This is in my top20 fav horror films, the best Dracula take, and 2nd in vampire films next to only Lost Boys for me. I adore Coppola's take on Bram Stoker's gothic tale
one of m y favourite movies as it basically clips one iconic scene after another
It's a classic.👍
This is my favorite Dracula movie also i think Keanu Reeves Fake English Accent in this film it's the only problem i had with this film but it's one of my favorite Francis Ford Coppola film alongside The Outsiders Apocalypse Now and Rumble Fish Starring Matt Dillon this is the best version of Dracula and Thank You Joblo Horror For This Video
Bram Stoker's Dracula is the ultimate vampire movie and one of my favorite Dracula incarnations since Phantom Blood.
You Guys Are Awesome 😎🧛♂️🧛♂️🧛♂️
I enjoyed it. I think Gary and Anthony did a great job. and the movie looks and sounds gorgeous.
🦇
Sanguis vita est.
BTW, how could the editor/writer of this video not mention the soundtrack for this movie, written by maestro Wojciech Kilar?
2:06. Jesus Wynona was an unbelievable specimen of a woman.
I was obsessed with this flick as a kid. Tom waits is so good as rendfield
First time I have heard Vannah on this channel. Nice job 👍look forward to more from you ☺
Bram Stoker's Dracula and Dracula Untold are my two favorite Dracula movies 🎥🍿😎🦇 of all time
The most faithful adaptation of Dracula I can think of is the 1977 BBC miniseries with Louis Jordan as the titular count.
It's the very best! I love it. I need to watch it again.
Great video and amazing movie! Definitely a classic in my eyes
Let's not forget the gorgeous ballad sung by Annie Lennox.
I thoroughly enjoy Coppola's version. Personally, however, I prefer the one with Frank Langela for a "Dracula" tale.
As for vampire flicks in general, "The Hunger" is my favorite.
It has the honor of being the second most faithful adaptation of the original novel. The most accurate was a BBC movie, which is obviously less known.
This movie has a good soundtrack too.
My favorite vampire movie is Salem's Lot,this one however is a close second.
I hope everyone has the 4K Disk!
Steven Kings Saloms Lot is worth a watch 80s version.. but this film is an epic
So many people hate on this movie, but I love the choices Francis Ford Coppola made in making this film. It shows the vampire at its full power with all the magic tricks. I love it.
We have never had a more beautiful Dracula film since.
Coppola's Dracula and Frankenstein double bill. Good companion movies. Oldman and DeNero.
Nosferatu will always be the ultimate vampire movie.
he isnt hot tho
Wdym Of course he is
After the Nosferatu trailer i'm on a Vampyre phase I recently watched Nosferatu 1922 (my first silent movie and it was a great film) Nosferatu 1979 Dope! And Bram Stokers Dracula Dope! I watched Bram Stokers Dracula in school English class but I forgot everything so i'm glad I rewatched it. Maybe i'll watch Christopher Lee Dracula next 🤔
Was this the best retelling of Dracula? Yes. Is Bram Stoker's Dracula the ultimate vampire film? Mostly. But despite this, Dracula 1931 began the many adaptions to come, and the 1992 retelling stole the hearts of millions on being yet another gothic classic. They gave the monster such a tragic yet sympathetic side to him, that he'll do anything to reclaim the love he lost through her "reincarnation". Also, Dracula's body horror design from the bat monster to the werebeast are stellar, so they and the costumes deserved those accolades, and inspired the transformation abilities from one of Dracula's sons Infernus(known as his human alias, Ichiro Tsubaki and identity back when he was an amnesiac, Kresnik) in my planned collaboration project between Capcom and Disney for the latter's streaming service as the first TV-MA original that isn't Marvel, Lucasfilm, or Fox/20th Century Studios related(aside from Disney Plus' first TV-MA original series being Marvel Zombies).
I could never get past that hair 😂
I've only ever walked out of two movies. This was the 1st. Just couldn't get into it, and Keanu/Ted with a garbage accent
Look like a bamboo's butt.
Great video! 👍
I was having a …..daymare!
I Love Bram Stoker's Dracula The Cast, The Costumes, The Story And Plot, Cinematography And The Director Francis Ford Coppola Knocks It Out Of The Park With This Film. I Have This On DVD Along With Interview With The Vampire, The Lost Boys, The Original Dracula (Lugosi), Fear Of Dracula (Lee), From Dusk Till Dawn, Let The Right One In, Dracula 2000, Near Dark, Underworld, Thirst (Korean Vampire Horror Film) And Blade.
In the spirit of this month - there is a theory that Stoker and Oscar Wilde may have had an intimate relationship, and that Dracula (Wilde) is persecuted by Van Helsing (society) given that much of Van Helsing's diatribe in condemnation of Dracula's influence is lifted almost verbatim from the judge's condemnation of Wilde before passing sentence.
It's just a theory so don't all have hissy fit, though I have met one of Wilde's descendants.
same kind of perspective could be taken with Melville's Moby-Dick
30 Days of Night, used to be my all time favorite vampire movie...until I re-watched this, OMG HOW WRONG I WAS
In my top 3 vampire flick category for sure....other 2 being the lost boys and John carpenters vampires
The Netflix Castlevania is a very strong contender despite being way off the original path.
Byzantium is the best....succreant is basically a vampire
It sure is...something. It's an incredibly neat looking movie, and I love the performances. But I'd love to see it redone and stick closer to the source material, without all the "Mina is Dracula's reincarnated true love, maybe." Dracula is a monster. A charming monster, maybe, but still a monster. He doesn't need a back story that makes him sympathetic.
Not quite "Bram Stoker's" Dracula. This where you have to be careful. For one thing, in the book, Mina never met Dracula in London, and she didn't run and kiss him, Dracula, just before he turned to dust. However, that said, it was a really good film and I enjoyed it.
@@johnnythermos8288 I think my main problem is that the last time I watched it, I had just recently finished listening to the full-cast audio production of the book, the one with Tim Curry as Van Helsing. And then I watched this movie. And I still think it's entertaining. But also... why has no one done an update in all this time? Without the weird Dracula love story element, just these humans trying to outwit a monster and just barely succeeding? We're getting a new Salem's Lot and it's heavily inspired by Dracula, but I'd love to see a straight adaptation. Would work perfectly as a Netflix or HBO limited series kinda thing.
I didn't find Dracula in the novel to be "charming." I found him to be a boring one-dimensional monster.
Took my grandma to see this in the theatre. She said it's not Bram Stoker's Dracula. Maybe book bias?
Its brilliant
This movie is a work of pure unadulterated GENIUS. It's so surreal and abstract in its presentation that it even accommodates Keanu Reeves 'acting'. The craftsmanship is head-and-shoulders above current movies. - James D Watkins artistic director of Phoenix Productions.
My only gripe with the film was the romance between mina and dracula. Beyond that it is a borderline perfect dracula and vampire movie. That bat dracula is the greatest vampite beast creature put to film.
You guys are spoiling me so much. This one, The Bone Collector, Underworld : Rise of the Lycans and Mortal Kombat. All in a short time span.
Monica belluci was one of the vampire brides 😊
A really interesting review. I've only started to get into horror lately. I did listen to the Audiobook of the original about 6 months ago and really liked it. It was incredibly palatable for a modern reader / listener. There were so many levels to the mystery surrounding Dracula. I haven't seen this movie, only extended clips but it feels very faithful. As much recognition as Oldman gets as an actor, I still feel he is so underrated. As I said, I haven't see he movie as a whole but I didn't like Keanu Reeve's portrayal. I have nothing against him as an actor but I don't think he embodies the era in which it was set.
No one can top that movie
I thought your thumbnail was john kramer's jigsaw
While this version is the closest to the book, I do find it a dull watch and a little too precious.
Liked this film better than the novel. In the novel, Dracula is a one-dimensional monster. In fact all the characters are one-dimensional.
Great movie. When I was a teenage goth this was the film id out on with a girl round if I wanted to try it on. And it pretty much always worked. 😅
You've seen Near Dark right
I call this one ‘the Winona Ryder-Dracula’ lol but there are many great performances in it. Coppola’s Dracula is the ultimate Dracula
I have it on vhs.
I love your voice❤
I've been wondering?
I just watched it again recently, Reeves never should've been in it and I think Oldman is fine but it's also obvious he tries too hard in every scene with every gesture to make it special - just play a vampire, Gary...this is not Richard lll.
Christopher Lee is the best Dracula ever
A pretty lazy review. How can you not highlight the music composed by Wojciech Kilar?
Fun Fact: Francis Ford Coppla's Dracula came out in 1992; 32 YEARS AGO.
How in the world did your editors let this title go live?!? The movie is probably older than your editiors!
Girl I ain't gonna lie u done found that tone and now u r my favorite commentary and look forward to u talkin to me like that again lol jk but fr beautiful voice and of u aren't the normal chick my bad but still keep up the great work
i wrote this off cause of the hollywood cast and kinda thought this was gonna be by the books vampire stuff without too much edge.
the opening had me clapping like a seal and it didnt let off from there - until the ending. would have been so much cooler and romantic if she got wth her past life husband instead of whiney vanilla ass Keanu
lol. Keanu’s acting alone keeps this far from being the ultimate vampire movie.
Have to agree besides Keanu Reeves poor performance it’s an absolute masterpiece¥
Personally I didn’t really like this adaptation of Mina. I mean, I get that she’s possibly the reincarnation of Dracula’s wife but Dracula left her fiance to be tortured and raped by female vampires, then raped and murdered her best friend, yet she still loves him. Even after Johnathan has been nothing but faithful to her and even offers to become a vampire himself for her sake and after seeing how much Lucy suffered by Dracula’s hand. And then we see at the end that Dracula is reunited with his wife in heaven?! If she was in heaven all along then how could she be reincarnated?
I don’t know, her character just didn’t make sense to me.
P.S can you do Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein next?
It could have been an amazing film and in many aspects still is, but Reeves' (and Ryder, albeit to a much lesser extent) truly terrible mangling of an English accent is so unintentionally hilarious it makes it nigh unwatchable. I'd love to see a version where he and Ryder are re-dubbed.
¿why do you say bram stokers dracula? when you want to mean copolas dracula.....stokers dracula are a lot before that one from 60s and 70s
Francis Ford C is kinda sleazy & rly gross-seeming to me, but he directed a couple of good features
The accents were hilariously bad though, which spoils it more than a little. Cor blimey Mary Poppins.
It's a flawed movie but I love it. The style of the movie is amazing. Soundtrack is amazing. Oldman is amazing
Vocal fryyyyy. “Across the gloooobe” ugh 🙄
Plus you can see Monica Bellucci's chesticles in this movie!
SIIIIMP!
@@johnaustin209 almost every horror movie gains entertainment value wth nudity
Oh, but the vocal fry of the narrator is unpleasant.
This movie is the ultimate style over substance movie. BTW Comparing This Movie to terrible teen vampire movies and shows like Twilight and The Vampire Diary makes it look even worse. JoBlo has truly fallen off with their new reviewers.
I never have liked this movie. One of my least favorite vampire movies.
Don't agree
The oversexualization of vampirism was fucking unbearable...
i love it xd
I don’t understand why people like this movie. It actually really sucks. It’s boring, miscast and just plain weird. Dracula dead and loving it is a far superior version.
No it isn't.
Well......elaborate!🤨
