History happening right there. I live in Leeds and love finding out about Leeds history. Thankyou for showing us what we wouldn't generally get to see 😊
I bet a lot of stations have fascinating history buried under them. Sheffield apparently has old Victorian underdrawings waiting to be revealed in some future redevelopment.
Thanks for capturing this happening for us Darren. The restaurant Shabab was previously Daggies night club in the 80's. I worked at Royal Mail on Wellington Street, now demolished, that I realised from one of your videos was the site of the other old railway station. We could get into Daggies for free with our Royal Mail badges so it was always full of Postmen, great memories.
It's brilliant to have you back! Can't believe they're getting rid of them but to be honest if they're no need for them anymore then I suppose it's the right thing to do. But we're always complaining about something 😂. That new camera is amazing! You would think with a good brand like Sony it would a brilliant camera but obviously not. 😊
Darren, my friend! How lovely it is to see you watching others at it, resplendent in your hi-viz and displaying your wet, shiny helmet, within these wee, sma' hoors in Central Leeds! Yes, you do so much for many of us, but go - get your bits warmed now!
Your new camera is brilliant Darren - you can notice the difference instantly! The clarity of the film is like we're there with you! Like I've said many times - you should have your own show on TV! Your presenting is fab and now your new camera is an excellent addition! 🙂
Thank you for braving a horrid night to show this historical moment. The new beams probably wont last as long as these have knowing how things are made these days, those old engineers really made things over engineered, and good thing they did, who would of thought back then how the weight of traffic would increase around there.
Thank you for tonight’s video. A rainy scene and late hours. Your sleep time will be really appreciated by you and the viewers, at least me! Cheers Darren, and see you on the next! 😊
Thank you so much for answering what those beams were all about. Since they were first revealed I’ve been pondering what they may have been for as I ran past each Saturday morning. I’d even thought were they something to do with the underground that Leeds was supposed to have many years ago.
Darren, where I live, if we were to dig a hole we might find some old coins ""up to 60 old maybe"" or some old socks. But where you live you have layer upon layer upon layer of history. For me if I fine a 1955 nickel I think "boy, is that old," If you dig up a Roman coin you think, "is that all" and toss it in the bin. Thanks for your TIME, hard work and posting.....
I can't believe Shabab building and the old stair case has gone. They just love to demolish things and is not needed. Gladiators haven't used the Colosseum in Rome for quite some time now, but it's not been demolished. Great video.
Excellent camera, Darren. Like it was filmed by the BBC or ITV. The new entrance to the concourse has been designed to limit disability access, remove bus access and reduce the taxi availability to just 6, with no covered area.
Good morning Darren just watched your video on removing the beams interesting looking forward to seeing your next adventure plus hope all is well with your family and glad your back now keep your bits warm
Great to have you back Darren. You have been missed. Nice follow up from your previous Leeds Station videos. The new camera is fantastic, looks studio quality.
That was so interesting Darren. Thank you so much for filming this for us in the cold and wet. A unique part of of history set in time by yourself. Well done.
Only sorry I missed seeing it live - but a video does mean not standing around in Leeds centre for hours. I enjoy all your videos but the Leeds station ones are my favourite as I've seen a few changes in my own, relatively short in these terms, lifetime so it's always fascinated me.
Love it love it 😍 Big machinery is amazing to see in action. I don’t think Sarens don’t do small lifts. One of my best mates is a crane driver, he’s worked for a few companies and always sent me photos of what he was doing (if allowed his phone on sites) When I was off work for an operation this year (January-April) he nipped round in his crane on his way back to the yard. I sat in the cab and the control pod, it was amazing honestly, after being off work so long it cheered me up so much. I filmed it but he asked me not to put it on my RUclips channel. You wouldn’t believe how navy different buttons there are for things. It’s a 23 plate Liebherr 😍 I loved every second of this video, I also know a lad who works for Kings as a lift planner.
Fascinatng to watch especially how long they have been there I have watched your other vids about Leeds Station and a great update. You should have got heated underwear to keep your bits warm.
Great to see back recording, new camera looks ace recording quality too 👍 Now they should have called in the Steptoes & Hercules they would have had that lot of scrap down the yard in no time at all 😎 Still good quality iron it will soom smelt into new iron goods. Darren take care and don't get a cold staying out in the dark and rain 👍 Cheers DougT
Great to see you back out Darren, thanks for going out to capture this on film. It's another snapshot of history in the making. Those beams certainly came out a darn sight quicker than when they were put in , I bet . Fantastic to see this , cheers.👍
The front of Leeds station with the city square will be massive improvement to visitors seeing Leeds for the first time, rather than a ring road of congestion.
@andrew300169 100 yards was a lot when I'd broke my leg . But yes I heard the council (amongst a lot of Northern ones) was going broke so may not be able to pay for the bus subsidies.
Great to see the beam removal! It looked to be in good condition after its long service. Time for a tea with a tot of rum to warm up, eh? and sit on the towel warmer for an hour to dry off....8^) Really liked the video Darren! Cheers!
Fantastic video 📸 Darren and brilliant new and very clear picture 🖼️😁. Thank you for recording this site in very wet Leeds town. 👍. Darren have you seen the flats been knocking down at Asda killing beck. I don't know if you want to record it. My husband recorded it on the York road and also behind railway line. 🤔 Just a thought 🤔
They had a better chance of doing it then than now, not that i'm complaining about the absence of smog & working for 6pence a week. Good question though. I wonder if it was traction engines.
Darren good to see you back.good video as usual.i was delivering down there earlier in week . traffic chaos round where you were.any way I would of thought you would be all over the removal of Queen Street bridge in York near the station.this will cause mayhem when it gets underway and lastly you mentioned new.videos railway related .can't get them on here quick enough.hope you're mother's ok going forward well done Darren .all the best in the future.
Thanks Darren for keeping the world up to date on the changes to Leeds I was over in October this year and made a point of visiting the Wellington street bridge garden all thanks to you and your channel Keep up the good work
Nice one Darren. I live near Leeds and have been watching the demolition progress. I've looked at the plans from the Leeds Council website and apart from smartening the area, it looks like they've just effectively moved the Taxi rank from New Station Street down a level to Bishopgate street. Thereby losing all the space that was once underneath New Station Street. It seems a lot of money for little gain in my opinion.
Great photos again of Leeds Station Victorian steelwork. Would it be possible to get some daytime photos/videos. Hopefully, if not, it is already cut up and removed from the site. I would like to see the steelwork on daylight. Again thank you for your fantastic videos of our history. Now, in certain cases long gone. Kind regards Mike
You said those beams had been there 80 years. That's 1943. Pre 1945 steel is worth quite a bit, as its radioactive signature is obviously lower! Before those two bombs went off in August 1945. The space industry likes to use radioactively pure steel for its sattelite programmes, as it does not interfere with the signals they are trying to pick up, so much. I think HS2 was going through the Asda offices and would have had a different terminus. Publication of the proposed route on 28 January 2013 showed that the Leeds station would be a new terminus connected to Leeds City station by airport-style pedestrian walkways, possibly with moving walkways.[2][4]

Only Leeds Council could think that moving buses and taxis further away from the entrance helps passengers. The loop round the front of the entrance was the best place to put transport interchange. Paving it over might make it pretty, but walking is going to be increased, and for a proportion of the population, not a reasonably viable option
Relocating the existing taxi rank to Bishopgate Street where there will be a large and well-lit shelter and room for six vehicles, also allowing for kerb-side boarding which will help people with wheelchairs or assistance dogs to board more easily. It’s being moved 50yds further away 🤷🏻♂️
@andrew300169 Your last two words rather prove my point, thanks. There is also the fact that the changes have already added go the cost of the taxis, my last trip added an extra 1.50 to the journey just because the taxi is effectively on the wrong side of the works for my journey and has to divert all round, increasing both time and thus cost. You also skipped the bus part, where the nearest stop is now along the shopping street instead of the station front, again not ideal for the less mobile and those that cannot justify taxi fares!
Pleased you managed to get in. I understand why you refused to video. but it would have been one up on them and their stupid jobsworth comments if you had.

@@andrew30m Well that certainly isn't true - even the Council couldn't fiddle the figures to justify their LTN car charging scheme and abandoned it after spending millions on cameras. Apart from two very localised spots (Armley gyratory and near the Corn Exchange - ironically probably caused by buses) the figures aren't that bad. On all measures of air pollutants the figures have decline steadily over 50 years to a fraction of what they were in 1970.
