Rule 1: Using root notes is good Rule 2: Try to avoid dissonance Rule 3: Try to find a good octave where the bass sounds balanced and natural. Rule 4: Tune your 808s Rule 5: Try to have some space between notes sometimes. Tip: You can use the other notes in the chord progression for variation.
1:06 DUDEEEEEE i cannot tell you how many times i'd be listening to a type beat and the bass would be off and i would just immediately stop vibing and begin to question reality lol
All I want for Christmas this year, is a mini size Servida, so I can put him in my shirt pocket, and have him throw tips at me anytime I’m cooking up. Lol is that too much to ask for!? Damnit. Haha
A free PROTIP for single-chord samples for adding some variation: you can change the minor chord by setting the bass note from the root note to either 8 semitones up or 4 semitones down. For example, if the chord is Am whose root note is A, setting the bass note to F changes the chord to be Fmaj7. So, if you alternate the single-chord sample with these two bass notes (and their 3rds and 5ths) you get "two different chords with the price of one." 😊
God bless you Simon, your smile and good energy is a gift for us all. As well as teaching all of us some valuable tricks, you never fail to lift my spirits up whenever I'm feeling down. Thank you !
I been making beats for 27yrs since 1997 & everything this guy is noting on I’m light yrs beyond I guess because I started from scratch with making beats on demo tapes & discovering millions of loop holes & short cuts along the way on perfection & crafting your sound but he still has great methods alot infact because don’t everyone know so very helpful💯🔥🤟🏾👊🏾☝🏾
I've seen so many tutorials about bass at this point its redundant, I would love to see a tutorial about filling out higher frequencies. I tend to struggle with that in my mixes.
Bass is literally my weakness OMG dude. That first beat you described where the intro is Iit till you get to the bass part.... That's me like every time I make a beat.
Most of Simon's videos have helped me improve alot in my beat making from sampling to counter melodies from samples 0808's all way the to mixing. This video is even more informative
What I found when working with the base is, sticking into scale doesn't matter any more, but the rhythm and notes arrangement really makes it work amazing. And also what I found Intresting is choosing a different note rather than the root note under the melody makes the piece sound amazing sometimes, but it depends always.. Yet still I always try to stick to the scale
this is an amazing video that explains so easily how i fuck up the 808s despite knowing the key. you're truly one of the best teachers out there ty for this bro
I have no problems when it comes to the bass but I'll watch the video anyway because I already know it will be entertaining and I'll still learn things. Great content. Every time!
Simon says his 400k loop pack ain't great: Me and all producers: BOI!!! Really tbh, that is the best thing that you have ever made. I already made so many beats with it.
Can we back up one more step? What process do you use to find the chords to a song? When I want to play the root notes of chords as my bass notes, I find the root notes most of the time by playing the melodic notes on the strong beats as note 1, 3, or 5 of the basic chord. The moment I figured out this simple rule of thumb, I was suddenly able to find root notes and chords to just about any song I played on my right hand on the piano - which enabled me to extemporaneously play songs by ear and play them in any key signature.
young man.. thank you. That was fantastic... Outstanding lesson.. The chord thing, wow. I never seen it like that. I literally stop because I can't freakin figure out the chords.. lol.. Wow.. I can improvise off this and make it my way.. Ahhhhhhhhhh!!!!!! I gotta go.. I gotta try this bruh.. Thanks young man..
