Great, thorough review! I watched this (and the “at night” lighting video) several times before making my purchase, and they helped me feel like I really knew the vehicle well before buying it.
I just traded in my 2017 XLE Highlander for a 2021 80th Anniversary Grand Cherokee in Slate Blue (with the Premium Lighting and Tow add-ons) today! 🤗 Granted, the dealer allowed me a fantastic trade-in value, and Toyotas are known for holding their value, but I had been displeased with the Highlander the majority of the time I had it. No powertrain issues, no electrical issues, but it was literally the loudest vehicle I’d ever been in once exceeding 45 mph (even louder than my father’s work van loaded with plumbing tools). No joke, it sounded like I had all four windows down and the sunroof open while driving on the highway/interstate. The dealer said it was simply a design flaw in how the roof rails met the top of the windshield. 🙄 And the fit/finish was not impressive (the chrome trim around the windows didn’t line up from the front doors to the back doors).
Within five seconds of driving this Grand Cherokee, I was in love. It has much more comfortable seats with higher quality leather than my Highlander (granted, it was a XLE and not a Platinum), better fit/finish, and it’s many times quieter. The acceleration without being in sport mode is already fairly impressive for a non-turbo charged 3.6 L V6, but the sport mode really takes it up a notch. Slate Blue is a gorgeous color, and I love the 20” granite crystal wheels (I don’t like black wheels as I think they just look cheap/dirty, but these are sharp). Long-term reliability and resale value are yet to be determined, but at least as of now, I’m absolutely in love with my new Grand Cherokee!
As of now (Jan. 2022), none of the dealers in my area have a single 2022 Grand Cherokee (there are a handful of the Grand Cherokee Ls). The interior of the 2022s looks crazy-luxurious, but I’m actually kinda partial to this body style as far as the exterior is concerned. And I have noticed a general trend that the first year of any new generation of any vehicle tends to have plenty of bugs, so I’m not at all mad that I landed a great deal in a 2021 80th Anniversary Edition in January 2022. 😁 I’ll consider one of the new generation Grand Cherokees in 3+ years.

I've owned my 21' JGC 80th for almost a year and a half. Traded my 21' GMC Sierra for it. Purchased with 26k miles and now I'm around 46k. It's a decent vehicle. Looks great and great interior. The UConnect is miles better than the GM interface. What I really don't like about the Jeep is the gas mileage. Even with the V6, the Sierra with a 5.3L V8 achieved better mpg average. Also, if you're OCD about interior squeaks and rattles (like I am), this vehicle will drive you nuts. I have to wear my earbuds to drown out the rattles.
Towing is good but I've only ever pulled my waverunner behind it. It's about 12-1400lbs but doesn't impact mileage much at all and don't feel any tugging.
