Here’s my take on the 501st Journal: “The 501st was trained to be THE elite fighting force of the GAR. We were trained to be the best in everything. On the ground or in the air. But this was a close one for us. Generals Skywalker, Kenobi and Windu were ordered by the Supreme Chancellor to liberate Ryloth. General Skywalker and Commander Tano were given the objective of leading our Naval forces against the Separatist blockade. Naturally, we thought General Skywalker would lead the assault, but command was given to Commander Tano. It was time for her to earn her wings.” “The first attack failed and a large chunk of our Naval fleet along with it. But in the end, Commander Tano proved her worth and helped General Skywalker in liberating Ryloth. Although she earned our respect, some of us were still upset that her earlier actions caused many of our brothers to die.”
“Because of the geography of Ryloth and the prominent feature of being tidally locked to its orbital parent, the maneuvering capabilities of the Grand Army were limited to the proximity of the habitable “twilight zone”. The droids could maneuver better in the extremely hot desert on a half of the planet, locked in eternal day, not necessarily on the dark side of the planet, which was locked in a series of storms and cold weather due to the flow of energy through the atmosphere. The plant also featured jungles, forests, cities, mountains and cases, all of which are very difficult to move armor and forces through, but prove easy to defend. There were countless points where the Republic forces got outflanked by droids, but teaming up with local rebels proved to be necessary, and after they combined their logistics and planning, they quickly took the capital city and captured Wat Tambor before he could leave. Years later, the rebel leader who helped liberate the city is known as a terrorist.” -CS/CT-8711-12 “Cheng”, Former Captain and Scout of the 442nd Siege Battalion
The rotational energy of Earth is ~2*10^29 Joules. The energy needed to blow up Earth is ~10^32 Joules. So if the Empire was willing to spend 1/1000 the energy of a Death Star Blast, they could have made Ryloth rotate thus making the entire planet habitable. Prior to the spin-up it trhere would have been studies to determine the optimal axial tilt to use, polus arranging for resource shipments (water, soil base, chemical analysis, etc). It would also have needed extra time to properly terraform the rest of the planet (ground cover, soil, water, plants for different latitudes, etc) But at the end you would have had an Earth-like world for the Twi'leks. Instead of a thin ring with the sun never moving, the planet would have had sunrises, sunsets, noon, midnight, and seasons.
Suddenly, I am jealous of planets like Tattooine after I heard what happened to Ryloth. Why? Because it has no importance whatsoever aside from being one of those places for refugees in the Hutt Space. But that also left me wonder why Jabba will wanted to stay there in the first place instead of an important planet on the trade route where he can easily taxed merchants?
@@oriongear2499 in my defense, it was a rebel infested planet. they had it coming. plus they launched NUMOURUS attacks from there on planets that the empire rightfully controls.
