So, the reproduction frames aren't going to hold up to the same weight/abuse as the original frames but the originals were rated to about 60-70 lbs, but often had their weight rating exceeded based on necessity. My question is, if you aren’t regularly meeting/exceeding the weight limit of the pack, would the difference between the original and reproduction be negligible? I feel it might not matter unless you’re exposed by some purist. Good video, thank you for the information.
The older LC1 and LC2 packs have a turnstile on the kidney pad. The 2nd gen have a retention buckle and the 3rd generation have the nexus buckles on the kidney pads.
I have 2. Both LC2 military issue. One green has the north American print and the black one just says 7S590-US. It was sprayed with a black coating prior to issue to me in 1990 for Desert Shield /Storm. Buckles are the same but the pad is waist slightly different
i have multiple alice packs. and have done hundreds of videos in the forest on mt hood in oregon where i use it. mushroom hunting. hiking. fishing etc. now i have 2 of them. but i was watching a video recently about alice packs. and this expert on alice gear. etc. said the army had 2 or 3 different versions of the alice pack frame. just as there are some m16 or earlier m14 pouches that are slightly longer than other versions of it. so it would be cool to see each real issued version of the alice frame. and see the differences between the 3 variants and what is the weight difference between the 3 versions of the army issued alice pack frames. and i dont mean size. i mean 3 versions of the alice frame for the medium alice pack.
Ours in 78 did not have a padded back pad or waist belt. There was a wide nylon strap with a turnbuckle to adjust for your back and the waist belt, if you were lucky enough to get one from CIF, was a 1 in strap with a quick release buckle. Pretty much useless. We were issued ALICE medium packs 78-82.
Yesterday i actually went to my local army navy store andbpicked up 2 frames and medium alice packs and straps i looked at the frames with a fine tooth comb also lol
Great info. I scored an LC2 from my local Goodwill for 15 bucks. Genuine, this vid helped me confirm it. Great looking pack, can't wait to go for a ruck with it!
I got a amazon one, which is pretty identical to the right. Meant for a prop to enchance my proton pack. Its pretty close to authentic for me as its just a prop. The Plexiglass on the other hand. Thats a barrel of fun. Bending clips before I go to drill marks for it as well will be fun too. The joys of making a motherboard and framing for the alice frame. Fake or not. Has been a fun ride so far and I have no regrets what so ever!
See what I commented over ... it's not a fake LC2 frame, but an LC1 replica. It will fit all Alice packs, but I tried one yesterday with a Large Alice from 2000, and I'd say the LC2 fits better! For the Medium packs the black frame is all fine and dandy...
friend! I have an origenal backpack.I need advice on how to fasten the straps of the backpack at the bottom? how to fix it correctly? can you record a short video? thank you very much😃
The compression straps are long. Just roll the excess compression strap up and shove it into the space behind the sustainment pouches when the pack is loaded to stow them.
Correct. The ones on the left are firefox aftermarket. Good straps though. I use them and their woodland molle kidneypad on my medium alice. You only need the one quick release anyway tbh. 🍻
Just FYI, looks like a copy of Otzi the Iceman’s packframe, when it was found the bindings had weathered away, but that’s not bad after being in mountain ice for over 5,200 years Luckily he didn’t have an Alice frame, they wouldn’t have found anything after 5,200 years…
Good video.but not 100% accurate. The reproduction frame is based off of the original LC 1, which didn't have the extra curve on the cross bars that the later LC 2 had. Also, the plastic buckle on the kidney pad on your LC 2 frame is a very late addition. I haven't ever seen an actual USGI one like that in the wild myself, maybe one day I will. I should break out the kitchen scale and compare the weights of my Canadian C2 riveted frame, the Alice LC 2 and my Canadian welded C2. Now I am curious.
Oh well I bought the black one from Rothco... not gonna use it with a heavy military back pack, but rather with a lightweight Proton pack for my Ghostbusters cosplay thanks for the vid
Fact is, the black matte powder-coated frames that Rothco, Tru Spec, Fox and Blackhawk delivers, are replicas of the original LC-1 frame from 1973 that was not heavy duty enough, so Natick had to develop the LC-2 frame. Rivets would pop, tubing bent and the flat metal parts would break. However, it's a nice frame for most use, if you need an ultralight kit with loads under 30 kg. The Rothco straps are nothing to have thou...useless
so im in the airport in 2011~ where the f... is my bag ? my medium A.L.I.C.E finally comes onto the conveyer last. its open and my stuffs half hanging out
The Blackhawk SOF is sweet! And the waist pad and shoulder straps and sternum straps are excellent Alice upgrades, if you can find them. However, the SOF came with that black frame as standard
If you ever hold an issue ALICE LC1 or 2 frame and then hold a copycat you'll instantly know the difference. I bought a Rothco frame off of Amazon, an American company. The frame was made in China, of thinner materials and poor quality workmanship. I immediately sent it back and bought a used GI issue frame off eBay.
The rothco frames, straps, and kidney pad are pure junk. I had the straps fail me at the worst time. They just cant hold up to the weight and stress. Its the same with most military surplus etc. Buy real, buy once.
Why would you want to use the pads made for alice packs, real or not? They're pretty trash any way. I bought a repro frame and added 3rd party waist and shoulder straps. WORLDS better.

My frame is black, also it’s from the 80’s plus purchase at Fort Bragg

Are you still doing the surplus Sundays?

not everyone is making props. Proton pack? ghost busters?
@@davidoftheforest yes sir, i will shoot a showcase video on this
@@silentspanky84 fuck yea, I love Ghost Busters
LOL ... Plexiglass??
@@larslevinberget9558 Yep, it is super durable, flexible and a great alternative!
Thank You
Good to know. Thanks.
My question is, will the medium or large authentic military alice backpack fit the fake frame and does anybody still sell the shelves?

Thanks this videop helped me while shopping for a ALICE pack and frame hopefully it will be enough to get a legit one.
those shoulder pads are not mil spec. there is no quick release on the left one. that is both packs.
Correct. The ones on the left are firefox aftermarket. Good straps though. I use them and their woodland molle kidneypad on my medium alice. You only need the one quick release anyway tbh. 🍻

Always, ALWAYS GREAT shows, great information, great AMERICAN PATRIOT thankQ
Thank you
great upload
Whats better lc 1 or lc 2
I love a good old Alice pack and frame I recently handed mine down to my niece and nephew for when we go backpacking and I got me a Blackhawk sof
The Blackhawk SOF is sweet! And the waist pad and shoulder straps and sternum straps are excellent Alice upgrades, if you can find them. However, the SOF came with that black frame as standard
Do you still have the Rothco/knockoff one on the right? Would you be willing to sell? Thanks for the cool video.
Military Surplus Surplus Sunday Awesomeness ‼️👍✌💯🇺🇸
Good info!
I have a frame that says either CCN US or CCM US. Is this a real one? I can't find infor on it.
Tks
1 lb. 2 oz. lighter for the Amazon frame......I'll take it.
"Ounces = (add up to) pounds. Pounds = pain."

Well hopefully my Scamazon holds up live and learn wanted a tool bag🤦♂️
The Rothco is trash. I loaded it up about 60lbs and the frame warped and broke
Hey soliders, I just want it to be a Ghostbuster!
Thumbs-up and a comment 👍
tofu dreg construction. It wouldnt be bad if it admitted it was a reproduction in the online description but china cant even do that.
Alice packs frames are horrible for tall people like me...6'2". The AC 1606 frame is good...with some adjustments.
A surplus (not A N ) store where I live sale the reproduction ones and yeah they are cheap made.
