in fact, if he truly believes the world is gonna end soon, then what does it matter if he plays basketball in his last few days? religious people are fucking nuts, sorry not sorry. and the fact that you equate being religious with being a good person proves exactly what im saying. you judge people not based on their personalities or how they act, but rather whether or not they believe in some nonsensical teachings. Had a talk with a few coaches through a few friends & was gonna be given a chance & got injured through training & by that time it was just too late to pursue my dream. As a Catholic I think this is the best way to approach faith, cause a lot of people get in it for the status, money or simply they want to sin but are afraid to end up in hell so they "believe" and "share" the Gospel, there is a few that actually have true faith. This phenomenon is part of every religion or group, since most people want the rewards yet few are willing to make the changes for the better. Before anyone comes to accuse me, I'm not perfect, I won't be a hypocrite, I'm just someone that hopes one day all us will find a way to defeat our demons or traumas. May God bless you all

People often forget how tough the life of an NBA player can be - 80+ games a year, flying all the time, often playing injured, not sleeping well, not seeing your family that much...Not to mention the expectations, pressure etc. It's not just fun and games, those guys have to sacrifice a lot. Some get lost in the process, no wonder so many lose everything soon as they finish career - money, houses, even families. Not everyone feels happy for having diamond rings and 50 cars in a garage.
    edit:
Talking about the last days - yes, the world ends for all of us when we die, the life is short, and nobody really knows of how much we're left with. So we all basically live the last days and the end is near, no matter what.

I think another key reason too is because they aren't giving him an OPPORTUNITY
a lot of people put pride in their work, and for him to not be on the court for weeks at a time and not be able to contribute is definitely hard for him. There are a lot of people who refuse free handouts and free money, and want to be able to put the time in. AJ wont say it but he probably feels disrespected by the team, not being given an opportunity to play and prove himself. He is not in the rotation at all, and probably has poor relations with some of the staff. Its a case of "if you don't need me, i will take myself out the picture..."

The man is blessed to be 6’6, 6’7, athletic, & have the potential to have an even bigger platform if he does well. He’s giving it up to focus solely on ministry. Casey you know after being around NBA players behind the scenes that some of them are great people when the cameras are on them and absolute monsters or just horrible people when the cameras are off. Bad enough to make a person who is looking to be a good righteous person would not want to be around. Just look at the locker room he was in and the accusations around other players in that locker room. But to lose a baby like that and then have family start bringing up Old Wounds and fighting about them and the media for all to see and at the worst possible time. I hate to say it but it also looks like when he needed his family the rest of them are too interested in throwing Shade on the others and not focusing on the loss they just suffered nor did they look to console and to be there for their family members who are in the worst place at the time. I can see him looking at this type of dysfunction and disliking it so much that he walked into that locker room and saw very similar situation where it's a lot of people concerned more about themselves than anyone ever and it defeated him because he did not have a family at home he did not have a family in the locker room that he could lean on and depend on when he needed that help and little things like that become major things and can completely alter your life as it appears what is happening here or at least from my point of view the timing says a whole lot. I wish him the best no matter which road he decides on I also pray for he and his family because they are in desperate need of help and salvation from the pain they're going through with such a loss but God has a plan for him and I hope it leads him to a righteous life where he can not only spread the word of God,joy, and happiness to others but he can also find it for himself.

This is possibly the most gracious interpretation on here. Maybe I'm too jaded, but my thought was that he's using faith as a cover to lay low and grant himself a protective layer of innocence in case any of his family drama blows up further. Turning to God in a time of crisis might be a recurring theme in Christianity, but in my experience it makes for some of the more misguided followers.

Umar, a driver in a company I worked for earned $200 a month in 2002. He lived in a house he inherited from his grandfather. The house is located in an alley hidden behind an upscale furniture store. As the store expanded, his house was bought for $400,000. He used up all his fortune for pilgrimage to Mecca that costed around $15,000 per person using a legitimate “express way”. The regular pilgrimage costed around $2,000 but has more than 10 year waiting list. The 15k gave him business class flight, 5 star hotel, and other perks. He went with 20+ family members. Returning back from pilgrimage, he came back working as a driver and earned the same $200 a month salary. He then lived in a $30 a month rented house, but he was (and is) very happy. Maybe hard to understand for westerners and think he is dumb. But when I think further, Umar might live a happier life than most of us. BTW, this is a true story, and I live in Indonesia
