One of the most iconic pieces. GW really should have gotten it for Warhammer world. I think the Last Light showed a lot of people a new level of emotion and storytelling in miniature art.
The fact that Games Workshop didnt jump at the chance to have that piece in their museum is a crime. This is hands down the greatest warhammer piece I have ever seen.
Not gonna lie, the work looks very impressive and honor to the artist for the effort and time, but to me the composition looks a bit sketchy in the details and also the color scheme a bit dull and flat... also not a fan of the goopy strings. Obviously these are just my two cents on a total personal point of view, I really love the idea, storytelling and the executions of many aspects of this tremendous piece of art, so big props to Roman!

If a person can sell a huge canvas with nothing on it for hundreds of Thousands of dollars. Then you deserved every cent for this amazing piece of Art! You did an amazing job. This was a beautiful and made me smile to see it. I needed this today badly thank you.
10K euro was a bargain price for this, especially considering some of your "small" diorama pieces are ~4K. And i'm in absolute love with your new Escher piece, the dimensionality of the background is absolutely insane, truly jaw dropping. the parallax effect you get with these small frames is beautiful, and truly inspirational as I've had ideas to do the same for a year now (just gotta clear out a massive backlog of various board game pieces, then I never want to buy a new board game again and just concentrate on art pieces).
Well, I am learning, growing reputation, making a living as an artist, in miniature art. I learned to appreciate one thing: Patience. The good things will happen one day and it shows that the patience pays off! Thank you for your kind words!
I don’t think I saw 40k in a grimdark fashion as a kid until I saw this and it changed my artistic and perspective view on 40k and ten years later I still reference this diorama to this day to show how cool the modelling and storytelling in minis goes! Amazing work❤
I recall seeing this piece some years before I began painting miniatures. I am an automotive modeler firstly. Having started in the early 70's when my Dad bought me a kit for us to put together as Father and Son. I stayed with it all through my life. When I saw miniatures becoming popular and the impressive painting techniques I wanted to challenge myself and break new ground. Gone were the highly polished lacquer paint jobs. Now the rust and the dust are where I dwell. I never abandoned cars and bikes. They are just another part of what I do as a hobby. But seeing "The Last Light" and knowing it was made with devotion and deep commitment was satisfying. Now have met you in a sense I see how deeply connected it is to your life. I have sold a few cars in the past, and boxing them up is always emotional. I recall all I put into the car. All the hours detailing and buffing the paint. The research and the planning. I feel it.
Hey, thanks for your patience with my answer. I did not see your beautiful words until now. Wow. Thank you! I appreciate the time you took to think into it and understand the connection to the cars. My interpretation on the your beautiful art is more grimdark. Space marines constantly idealise these heroic last stands takeing down as many foes as possible. However against the tyranids it simply does.not.matter. The tyranids clearly have no end to their numbers and the Marines are clearly being dragged down under their weight. The losses they inflicted are also meaningless as the hive fleet will simply reabsorb the biomass of their dead alongside the space marines dead. Humanity struggles and rages but its all meaningless, the human sacrifices means nothing and the casualtys they inflicted against the swarm will mean nothing. Pure distilled grimdarkness and i love it! Thank you.

Letting things go is hard and at the same time one of the most liberating things to do. Especially when you have put so much effort and time into it. But the experience of creating it and all the emotions stay with you and theses are forever. Best piece ever to me, because it set a new standard of storytelling and complexity. I wasn’t in the hobby at that time, but when I returned in late 2021 after a more than 20 years hiatus, and did my catching up on things, this one stood out.

One thing I appreciate and try not to take for granted, is being born English speaking. I've since forgotten (due to no real world practice) Swedish and French which I was fluent in decades ago, but it really is a blessing having international artists like yourself being able to express your thoughts clearly for us. Off topic but it's where my mind went
damn homie, as somebody who loves the creative side of wargaming more than the actual wargame part; this is the type of project i love. There is an impressive amount of motion implication happening here and by golly, it's breathtaking. With people like you representing the hobby, hopefully people will slowly begin to see and appreciate the artistic side of wargames. Maybe one day my family will be disappointed in me not for being a "hobbyist", but instead they will be disappointed in me for being an "artist"... Probably not, but a man can dream anyway.
Many thanks for your kind words. Really happy that you enjoy this diorama so much! Yes, same for me here. I origin from the gaming aspect, but enjoyed the creative side more and more. All the best on your journey! I had the same thoughts with my parents once - I even scared them when I made miniatures and teaching about painting them my job - instead of becoming a teacher for art and art history (what I studied). They were scared for a long time that I took this path. Now they are proud.

Hey, just wanted to say thanks for this video - thanks for giving insights into this beautiful piece but also sharing your emotions and feelings. It's a piece inspiring for me to look at!
When I was visiting MoMA this summer, I wondered why there wasn't any real 'miniature art' on display. Your piece is as valid (and, IMO, moreso than a lot of it) as most of the art on display. I feel like all we need is one interested museum head, and our hobby could gain a lot of (I hate to use the word 'legitimacy' here, because we have nothing to legitimize. 'Cred' maybe? Recognition?) Thank you for the video. Your style is so delightfully different than the other channels.
A large pencil or paint of this scene would be impressive enough but this 3D depiction is fantastic. I can only imagine how impressive it has to be with some care and detail put into it's cabinets background and lighting; has to look amazing.
As a fellow diorama builder and lover this is a beautiful build and amazing story telling both video and diorama wise! I absolutely love it I wish I had more time to build dioramas but I make them for my YT channel so need to cut corners like there’s no tomorrow 😅 (builds need to be done in a week then editing 😅). Telling stories and showing lore through dioramas is such and interesting thing to me and I have to say I’ve not sold any of my builds as I know it’s hard to let go! Keep going and keep building these beautiful captures of a story in the 3D form! And again just incredible piece of art 👌
Yes, it was a hard and interesting moment, giving it away. I see your case. Well, for me I do not play the RUclips game like RUclips wants me too, means I do not have video every week. I could not do it without losing the fun in creation. Hats off! Thank you for your kind words!

Absolutely fantastic, amazing, mind-blowing piece of artwork! This is on par with the great works of the classical masters in museums. Stunning, captivating with so much to tell everywhere you look at it! You can indeed see that you poured your blood, sweat, tears and even your soul into this work. I can imagine that you parted with it with no small amount of reluctance. Absolutely brilliant work sir.
Thank you very much for your kind words! You make me speechless! Arrigato!
This is, without a doubt, an inspiration for me to start in on something similar!
@@bsal3579 😍🥰
Christ, I didnt expect to get so emotional watching this....
Fantastic interview.
Thank you.
You are welcome! Happy you enjoyed it!
I bow to you Roman, thank you for your experience, wisdom and inspiration you share here. It is very interesting for me to see this creation process and how well you explain it, just shows what a good teacher you are. You have worked hard for all this
Thank youf for the beautiful compliment!
I love the documentarian approach to this video. Great production quality and insight into your process. I especially love how you condensed such a huge amount of time and labor into such a fun watch.
Much appreciated! Happy you enjoyed it!
The light work is amaizing in this piece!
Thank you!
This peice would make Frazetta blush. Bravo.
🥰😇😍
You are an amazing artist. I have a few of your pieces in my collection as well, my wife got them for me for my birthday. You just don't really know until you hold a Roman Lappat painted mini in your hand! To this day I still catch my wife going on your site to browse the mini for sale. lol Hearing the stories behind the art is just an added bonus. Thank you for all you do! Amazing!
Thank you and your wife for supporting me as an artist. I owe you gratitude and it makes me really happy to hear how happy my creations make you. Thank you for the beautiful words! Big hugs!
This was way more emotional than I thought it would. Thank you for taking us on that journey!
You are welcome! Thx!
Thank you for sharing. This was a great view how an amazing artist sees, thinks and feels about his master piece.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you for your kind comment!
What a unique look into the experience of an artist. Thank you for sharing!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you for your beautiful words. They mean a lot to me. Really appreciated.
@@ROMANLAPPATMINIATUREART When you used the term Cybot instead of Dreadnought while speaking English I was reminded of the impact I was lucky enough to leave on the hobby. Even I left the company people still use some of the terminology that was defined in back in the day. Nice to see.
@@3grotsinatrenchcoat for me its a Cybot. Always. Period.
@@ROMANLAPPATMINIATUREART Of course it is... 💯.When did your start 40K? 2nd edition?
@@3grotsinatrenchcoat Actually with Space Hulk, early 90s when I was 11, but then for real with 2nd edition, yes.
That is the most epic encapsulation if 40k I have ever seen. Thank you 🙏 for showing us.
You are welcome! A pleasure!
Hello from Saigon. I have been a WH40K fan for the majority part of my life. This video of your compelled me to simply express my appreciation on your work. The weight of emotion and the investment you have placed into your works resonate deeply in me for that is the same way I approach my other passion, that is photography.
Greetings from Bavaria, Germany. Thank you for your beautiful words, really appreciated.
You are legend , this art right here is legendary
Many thanks for your compliment.
This video was just as well put together as your diorama. Such a captivating and heartfelt piece of production.
Thanks a lot. Happy that you like it this much! Thank you for your feedback!
I just found your channel and this is so amazing to see all of this come together! Very cool piece and I cannot wait to see more! Keep up the great work!
Thanks and welcome!
Thank you for the video. It is an amazing insight and I am glad you took us on this personal journey! I All the best, Roman!
Thank you for enjoying the ride :)
I've wanted to make a "Counter" piece to this diorama for a long time (years). One with the Tyranids defeated and the Blood Angels rescued.
Sounds awesome! Can not wait to see it!
It really captures the grim dark nature of 40k and the scale too!
This was the plan! Thank you!
This is an amazing video, so different from any other war gaming content out there.
More to come! Happy you enjoy the difference!
Oh my goodness, the heart and emotion that went into this piece is absolutely phenomenal, this has inspired me to get back into modelling and use old models to create art:-D
😍
this remains my favourite 40k diorama. Simply incredible vision to make this.
Thanks a lot!
I try with my bavarian barbarian english. Happy it is okish - thank you for the feedback!
damn homie, as somebody who loves the creative side of wargaming more than the actual wargame part; this is the type of project i love.
@@ROMANLAPPATMINIATUREART well ty for taking the time to respond so thoroughly! i wish you all the success in the world, and i can't wait to dig into some of your other videos!
I absolutely love this! I always want to know the insight, the thought process, everything that truly goes into something special like this that depicts an entire story. As a hobbyist myself these things don’t just come out of thin air. Thank you for sharing this with us!
Many thanks for your words of beauty :)
Really impressive, it must be the best piece of 40k art I have ever seen, in any medium
Thank you for the high praise!
ok wow.. Very calm. Very insightful--this was an absolute treat man.
Happy you like it!
@@ROMANLAPPATMINIATUREART just watched around 12 min and saw you match steps to the twinkle sound effect--nice little touch. You put a ton of love into this.
I try and I am happy that it shows. Still learning tons. Thank you for the kind feedback!
This is so much inspirational! Just love the feelings behind such an amazing project. For me this is what this hobby is all about! Thanks for sharing and beeing such an inspiration!
Thank you very much for your nice words!
That is absolutely amazing and that death company dread is gonna be right at home with all them bugs to eat!
Yes, he is, indeed :D
Still one of the most impressive dioramas and is one of the main reasons I got back into painting! Great stuff 💪
We are happy to hear! Thank you! Welcome back!
Wow what an amazing piece, stunning work. If I ever had the money it would be an honour to own one.
Thank you! Unfortanetely this is a one of a kind piece!
I still remember seeing this and being blown away - iconic
Thanks a lot!
Awesome to see how such an iconic piece come to life! I really enjoyed looking at the initial sketches
Happy you enjoyed it!
A great look into your thoughts and the process that went into making this work of art, need to say that seeing your post on Instagram finally inspired me to create a diorama of my own. And while nowhere on a scale and awesomeness of yours. I am nevertheless thankful to you for giving me that spark to do it 🙏.
My pleasure, really. Inspiring others to creation is the most beautiful thing. Period!
An truly incredible project and fantastic to see the process from beginning to the end!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you for following and liking my journey!
Hey, just wanted to say thanks for this video - thanks for giving insights into this beautiful piece but also sharing your emotions and feelings. It's a piece inspiring for me to look at!
Thank you for enjoying it and your feedback!
damn this really sums up 40k in one diorama
Thanks a lot!
Today is the 1st time I've seen it and I'm putting this as the no1 best awesome diorama I have ever seen.
Happy that you like it so much!!
Recognition?)
Thank you for the video. Your style is so delightfully different than the other channels.
Well, maybe one day :) - Thank you for the wonderful compliment and feedback!
but hes not the only artist, all the models were designed by the sculptors at games workshop
A large pencil or paint of this scene would be impressive enough but this 3D depiction is fantastic. I can only imagine how impressive it has to be with some care and detail put into it's cabinets background and lighting; has to look amazing.
Arrigato 😍
@@ROMANLAPPATMINIATUREART it’s strange I definitely enjoy the … pressure… 😅 of building quickly but I do feel like I need more time sometimes. The longest build I did was about 4 weeks which was the Horus heresy box that came out last year. I used every model in the box to make the Istvaan V drop site massacre. One of my favourite bits of lore. Anyway, thanks for taking the time to reply and again incredible work all round I’ve watch a few of your vids now 👍 very inspiring work ☺️
Thank you very much for sharing Roman, thats always been one of your best features! I sad I have never really gotten to see it up close since you won the slayersword, I was there that day but only got to see it through the glass cabinets. I have an idea for making the scene on Istvan 5 where Fullgrim meets Ferus in the middle of the heat of battle, surrounded by their armies, inspired by your Last Light.
This sounds great. I am fully with you, just read the Horus Heresy and I can imagine it clearly. Thank you for the kind words!
This is such a masterpiece - cant stop looking at it.. so much so find and see!
Superhappy you enjoy it!
wow as a die hard heratical night lord fan i am now going to buy a blood angels army out dedication to this man
Thank you for the compliment!
Watching you sing Bob Marley could cure cancer.
🙂😇😍😂
Absolutely breathtaking piece. Thank you for making it.
Thank you for enjoying it!
You did such beautiful work. As grimdark as the piece is, the first thing that popped into my head was, "so beautiful". I can't wait to see what that empty space will be filled with!
Thank you for your words of beauty! As far as I can say it will be 40k again 🙃😉😄
@@ROMANLAPPATMINIATUREART Aha! My favourite! I'll stay tuned ;)

Thank you!
What an absolutely amazing piece of work.
Incredible
😍
LOL, it was totally worth watching this videoe and seeing you sing Bob Marley 😂. And yes, great art too 💕
I was worried that this part of the video would mess it up, but then "Don't worry ...!" just singing along this always helps!
This is honestly the best 40K model I’ve ever seen by an absolute mile!!
Thank you!
An amazing piece and prescient too.
Thanks, James!
