The Burbs was the first “unpopular or non mainstream” movie I watched as a kid. My brother, dad, and I have traded quotes from it for decades now. It holds a special place in my heart and watch it yearly.
It took me over 30 years to notice Art reaching into a random bowl Carrie Fisher was carrying, and being disgusted. Only to follow Fisher's movement snd and to see she's carrying the dog's food 😂.
Really happy you guys announced the movies you're discussing this season, it let me watch a bunch before you discussed them. Hadn't seen Rear Window yet, for example. This got a "meh, we'll see if I get around to it" reaction from after seeing the trailer, but it was still funny to watch the "where in the top 100 did it rank" wrap-up on this episode to see it was probably the right call. Hope this series is a big enough hit to keep going, tuning in every week, whether I watched the movie or not.
This belongs in the top 10 of all time‼️ I seriously have watched this movie beginning to end 150 times without exaggerating, can almost do every word forward The perfect Saturday night home popcorn movie. And look at the cast: Gale Gordon, Wendy Schall, Tim Hanks, Carrie Fisher, Bruce Dern, Corey Feldman, Henry Gibson, Brother Theodore, Courtney Gains, and the little white poodle is from Silence of the Lambs and the garbage man is the gun salesman in the original Terminator
Perfect movie to watch when you have a week off work with nothing else to do. It's quirky, quotable, has great characters, and is somehow relatable in its ridiculousness. Top 100 for being endlessly rewatchable, deserves big points for popularizing the whole Dark Comedy genre.
Ive never even heard of "The Burbs" but now I have to find it on cable TV because I'm fascinated. Also really like piecing together what kind of person Dan is through the movie picks haha.
Exasperated and angry was a big part of 80's Tom Hanks characters. In most of his films from this time period, guaranteed there's a scene where he blows up and shouts at another person.

I am surprised that this movie's got into the TOP100 videos already. I like this one, as it is the one of the childhood movies of mine. But I am not sure it deserved such a deep analysis video. Can't complain though.

Grandpa was one of those “rent/record”. Saw all the types of movies: “Corey” films + Romancing the Stone, The Gods Must be Crazy, etc. Total summertime nostalgia. Side note: I cannot believe the critiques on this. How many women had any type of substance in films then. These are the reasons we’ve had to educate the public that women can ACTUALLY provide substance in any film. Drinking with a kid? Not that everyone did it but shows an adult who probably drank when he was a kid and alcohol was more common and parents didn’t know or care as much. Kids with parents out of town? Raise of hands how early you had the house for the weekend, 20 bucks for pizza? Not everyone had parties (I went to our small down video store and rented the Burbs, Clue, Pump Up The Volume, Heathers, etc. No cable!?!?!?!?!? How can we survive on PBS alone!!!!

Wow I thought was one of the first times the Nic Cage segment should've been really obvious. He should be the main character! Tom Hanks is basically doing his overacting Nic Cage impersonation the whole time. The scene where he over freaks out about the note, the end where he over freaks out at the neighbor, goes on a rant, and throws himself into an ambulance--he's doing textbook Cage!
You know what is irritating? That some ok american filmes are getting into this list just for the nostalgia, and that's fine. But since it's only the presenters nostalgia that counts, every movie from a country other than the US has to be an amazing masterpiece to get in the list, but american cinema has the privilege of "you know what? I loved Disney's Robin Hood as a kid, it's getting on the list. Oh, what? Turma Da Mônica movies? I don't know them, sorry. For a movie from your country to feature here, it needs to be one of the greatest films in human history, like City of God.
