This video shows the full making of process of my first knife. It's not perfect, but the next one should be better. The knife was made using pretty basic tools easily aquired for little cost
Most of the processes used I learned about on RUclips, and most of the materials used were bought from eBay. If you have any questions, feel free to ask in the comments and I'll get back to you

If this was your first knife, I can not wait to see the next knife. For just using simple tools, you hit a home run. Good job my friend. Thank you.
7 years later, you have maximum patience. I forge to profile, not stock removal, and I'm still in awe.
Making a cutting tool started with cavemen mastering the skill of flint knapping. Now here is that same skill refined to a form of art.
I have the utmost respect for these craftsmen.
Simple effective way with an amazing knife at the end.
Congratulations and thank you for increasing my motivation for starting to make knives.
Love watching people who use actual basic tools. Great knife
This is one of the most beautiful knives I have ever seen! I will try to make one like this!
Dang! The patience you have. . . most of all, that handle pistol-grip shape with the oval cross section looks extremely comfortable! Respect!
I have watched this video 8 times, and every time I ask myself, WHY CAN'T I BE THIS TALENTED ?.
dude, for your first knife, this is incredible. my first knife looked like an African prison shank. it was awful.
Harubro Haruhara well did you see it to Africa? They could eat it
nah, I'm a jew, so I burnt the handles off, annealed it, and tried again,
My first knife looked like a mixture of a broken rib, and something your dog threw up and hardened over a period of days.
Colin Thomas honestly, I've made a total of 10 knives and I'm barely better than when I first started. my guess for us is that we both need to refine our techniques and just tough through it. I suggest practicing on shitty mild steel from home Depot to get your technique down and then start moving up to tool steels or high carbon steels. then once you are good with those you have the option to go to stainless.
Harubro Haruhara LMAO
I'm impressed that you did most of the knife with hand tools.
It takes a lot of time :/
I am trying to learn more about making beginner knives with cheap tools because I don't have a lot of great tools but this was such a great video to learn off of and nice blade
This is a great job with the tools you used. It proves it can be done and done well. GOOD JOB
It's amazing the amount of videos where a hand file if used incorrectly. Nice knife.
you sir are an artist! from one knifesmith to another. wow!
thanks!
Wow, pretty cool. I could see how making knives might be a more gratifying and more affordable than simply collecting knives, which can be an expensive rabbit hole to go down.
That is a TRUE piece of handcrafted art. Wish I could learn how to do this. I know you made it look slot easier than it is.
That is a beautiful knife,I have skinned many a rabbit in my time, and it is almost identical to my knife, which I have had for over 70years,but the blade is well worn down now with all the honing it has had, your knife definatley gets my thumbs up
Great job, I love everything about this knife the shape of the handle and the blade, they go so well together
Very Good Hunt knife. And You worked whitout sanding macine Just a drill An Electric saw. This is Good handcraft Job. My congratulations
This is a lovely, love piece. Awesome results 1) for your first effort and 2) with just basic tools. I'm about to launch my first build and watched this video and thought to myself that is one of the nicest looking profiles I've seen yet. Thanks for providing the template. If I can be so bold as to copy you for my first build I will. Consider imitation the sincerest form of flattery!
Excellent work,i like that u use simple tools,as Bruce Lee said simplicity is key to brilliance.
Very impressed with your improvised bevel big. Great work!
thank you for this fine video, most of us don't have all those tools in other videos. much appreciated, great work!!!
Great work buddy. Really love the handle shape 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Me too
Dude! You should be proud of this achievement! It came out awesome!
Espectacular!!! La proligidad y el diseño son perfectos. Congratulaciones!!!
Nice video. Step by step. Cool knife design. Good job ! 👍
Both the knife and video have high production vakue. Your on your way to having a great career
Very nice and thank you for the inspiration. Not sure I can file as fast as you do - lol
The final result is very good, congratulations, your video proves that with dedication and a little study it is possible to make beautiful knives, in my first knife I used the same file jig, it's a very effective method for a very cheap and mechanical way to do the bevel. Actually you can make many jigs and tools, just using some different techinics and improving others to make knives, but if you're just a hobbyist, if this is not your profession. it takes a lot of practice and experience to make knives with a high technical level with few tools.
Nice work! For those saying there's no way that's his first knife, I disagree. Like he says in the description he's watched and learned a lot from RUclips videos, so its more than possible to produce a quality product the first time (if one puts the effort into watching and learning.) He's probably got some experience woodworking as you can see by the handle he produced -and that type of craftsmanship goes a long way.
Real nice job for basic tools, came up real good looking
You made one hell of a knife. Good job.
Beautifully shaped handle. Almost like the handle of a gun. Really nice!
Realy, nice piece of sharp steel. Good job !
Nice work! I liked the way you didn’t use fancy or expensive machinery... a lot of elbow grease used... respect!
I love the handle design. It's kind of like a pistol grip..Nice work.
You made it look easy. Great looking knife !!
thanks!
What an incredible work man ! Congrats and keep it up !
Great job. I love the simple forge from bricks.
Great job! Word of advice. Slow down, learn proper file strokes. I've been making knives for a little while and I learned that patience goes a long way. Again, great job.
Nice job. I really like the handle shape you chose
That looks great man. My first knife didn't come out nearly as great and I started with that same filing jig! Awesome work!
Sharp Works iii
You know, the teeth on most files only cut one way. You'll only dull your files quicker by moving them back and forth like that in a sawing motion. But other than that little nit pick, great work! you should be very proud of your efforts. Nice handle, Could have used the angle grinder with abrasive flap discs to shape that handle though, much quicker than a rasping it.
Jimmy Grey cross cut file so it can go both ways
Zane Antoneshyn I think you mean double cut, and whether it's double cut or single cut the teeth still only cut on the forward stroke.
+Jimmy Grey I will correct myself as I have been wrong. the file only cuts on the forward stroke like you said, but the backward stroke is still used. on the backward stroke no pressure is supposed to be applied so on the backward stroke it can help clean out metal chips. it's unclear in this video if pressure is applied on the backward stroke or not as he sped up all the filing. but if he was applying pressure on the backward stroke you would be correct.
Zane Antoneshyn Still, its really the best practice just to lift the file entirely on the backward stroke to avoid any dulling of the teeth. Your files will thank you for it.
Jimmy Grey I agree with you completely it's a good thing to practice just in it won't dull them too much if there's no pressure if any at all. But once again it's hard to tell in the video. And I'll take this advice and use it a little later today maybe.
It turned out really well.
I admire your patience. Just one little remark: your really should drill the pinholes with a drill press. It is rather impossible to keep a steady angly by hand. The end result would have looked so much better if only those pins were snug. But again, a remarkeble job well done.
yea first thing I did after finishing this knife was buy a drill press! Check out my other videos to see the difference it made, that screwed up drill hole was the most disappointing thing about this knife. Also using a big hammer drill made the holes even more awkward
You did a really nice job.
Bro really impressed man Beautiful knife and the info in the description is on point very helpful
I made my first knife the same way, same filing jig even. Got it from Gough Custom.
Thank you for a great video!
You made a very nice, truly "handmade" knife!
Nicely done, I really like your handle profile.
Great knife, love the handle
that came out really nice.
great job.
Good job, from Texas
Awesome work Bud !
I loved the look of the wood of handle
That idea with the file to get the angle is really clever.
thank you for the template, i am going to change the blade shape a bit on my knife but i really liked the handle design.
beautiful peace of art..
Really beautiful.
Looks great well done.
I really apreciate this great job, salute 👍👍
Really cool filing jig.
great video. thanks for posting. it looks like that took a while. great knife.
Nice knife dude. Good work and excelent video. Thank you
Awesome work dude
i had a couple suggestions that might help you in the future, in between your pin holes try drilling holes that are a couple sizes smaller... drill as many as you think it might take to sorta even out the difference in weight between the handle and the blade, then when you get your handle scales drilled for the pins go ahead and use the smaller bit to drill several holes about 1/8" or so into the scales, this will aid in a super good bond between the scales and the handle.just remember to keep the holes in the scales away from the edges so that there is no chance of sanding thru.hope this helps you
Great man!! keep that good work, and I love how you mostly use hand tools to get the job done, I work the same!
Truly remarkable
Great work, bravo.
Say Heah Peter, I got lucky, I bought a Busse Combat Ergo Series, The point is, Tha Ergo Handle Design on your Knife is awesome to use, It holds great in your hand when slicing and chopping. It looks a little like my Badger Attack Ergo and I Piggybacked it with my Steel Heart Ego. I plan to Baldric Carry the two.,,.
For your first knife its a good looking one, especially since its a lot of hand tool work.
Very very cool. Thank you so much for sharing. Can someone please explain the process at 4:30? I thought you didn't have to normalize it unless it was all corroded.
Original hand made knife. Thanks
Nice work man!!
Excellent start
That is a good-looking knife
It doesn't matter...you enjoy doing it....and sometimes you cannot get the characteristic's that you want with power tools!! Nice blade
Great job, nice looking knife!
