    Another great video man!
    I'm really impressed with your ability to find good public-domain photos of these old electrics. Where do you find them?
    As for NYC, there's a bit of a "cult of Perlman" in railway RUclips but I feel that while he did his best, the company was probably still doomed even without merging with the sick man of railroading. It is interesting to think about though, because Penn Central took Erie-Lackawanna, Reading and the D&L with it when it failed (among others) and I wonder if they might have had more of a chance if Penn central fell in stages instead of all at once.

      I think Perlman was the best president however the game was rigged from the start. Regardless of how well the central sailed through the 70s it would still be eaten up by Chessie systems or CSX by the 80s. I think the fall of the penn central was needed as a wake up call as things were just doomed to collapse. People say that with the milwaukee road failures would have triggered it but i don't think so considering Penn central trackage lead to some of the most important places in america.

      Also for the photos i've been using a mix of flickr and wikimedia commons as i can filter out for the correct licenses since last thing i want is to upset people in the community. As maybe one day i might do some musueum visits

      Not a problem. Just lets me tell people all about these locomotives that are just really interesting. To be honest i would love to see models of the NYC electrics in ho scale

    I don't see the purpose of merging parallel failing railroads, that are not primarily thru traffic bridge lines. IE( PRR / NYC ) In the PRR merger, virtually none of the duplicate trackage was eliminated, as it served different online customers. All they seemed to do was chain two sinking ships together. Logically, end to end mergers would make far more sense, as that would create longer and more efficient runs. Additionally, all of the regulations put on the railroads back in the early 20th century controlled them to death. Their monopolistic tactics at that time were already being countered by free market competitive alternatives, as evidenced by the railroad's downturns in the 1920's and 30's.

      I completely agree with you. I think if the new york central had merged into chessie systems i think it would have been the best case for the NYC. It would have gained from the coal mines all the way to the powerplants and to the docks. I mean did the penn central gain anything apart from a duplication of power and routes. I disagree that the Central would have survived by itself. It would have been gobbled up by the 1980s for sure either CSX or NW
