Perfect timing, I was going to ask you about your existing NAS. I will definitely check this out.
NASs are super awesome! I've been using a Synology for a while now and am so happy I made the switch!
Synology boxes are proper good too. I spent WAY too long trying to make WD enclosures work...
Cloud storage is just someone else computer and these NAS solutions is great tech to have.
Monthly payment price might look tempting at first but when you add all this up over 2, 5, 10 years ... just getting NAS box is way better option.
Also, cloud storage providers have the authority to delete any files that deemed unsuitable.
@@farishanafiah8461 especially if it doesn't suit the leftist narrative.
It's great to see NAS being covered and talked about on your channel. Looking forward to the follow up video.
Chris over on his ExplainingComputers channel has put out great content over the years in relation to NAS and did a video only a few weeks back involving the Raspberry Pi
That's EXACTLY one of the projects I want to do soon!
Appreciate it Juan , great review
Very cool sweet idea👍👍👍👍
This looks something my father may use, easy and useful
I think it's a great option for folks curious to step up 👍
Its not exactly the same as this, but if you do ever cover another one of these, I think the "Amber X" could be interesting. It is expandable via your own choice of external drives.
Building a NAS will be the next step in my tech journey.
It looks like a fun project for sure 👍
Juan, thank you again for another great video. One quick question for you: what are your thoughts on the DS 220J? Would the DS be a better option over the TS233?
I'm trying to find a reliable solution for home use (2 iphones, 3 laptops, and lots of photos and videos).
Thanks!
yes please.. your thoughts on this?
i understand that this is using ARM CPU, but does this support "Virtualization Station" like other non ARM QNAP NAS ?
Actually a video I needed, I have a main backup system I got from my brother but I would love this as a more in-depth backup system for my game projects and backing up my phone's photos. I have been looking at a low cost way to get away from google photos and this might just be it. Question, once you buy this there's no software subscription, also what would be the max drive size per bay and CPU?
Nope. No subscription. I don't know that there is a max drive size supported. I have 10TB drives in mine.
I never heard about NAS before, but now I'm looking at making my own cloud storage since I have multiple external hard drives. While they're still functional, I do want to have a secondary backup just in case if any of those external hard drives suddenly failed.
Just one thing I'm curious: Is it possible to use NAS offline? I'm worried if my house have a sudden electrical blackout and I cannot use the NAS if there's no internet network.
You have to think in terms of two networks. There's internet access that helps your computers communicate with other computers that live outside your home and there's LOCAL network access that ties all of the computers in your home together.
If your broadband connection goes down, and you can't communicate with other computers outside your home, your local network should still work as long as you still have electricity.
How many tb hard drives does this product support? Thank you.
I think the maximum pool size for QNAP small business boxes is 250TB?
still backing up all my data on USB drives, unfortunately.
here in Egypt, more than 85% of people, (me included), are on this plan : 140GB monthly quota, ~30Mbps down, ~4-5Mbps up.
so i think u can imagine why such a backup solution just wouldn't work :((
This kind of solution is best done with home WiFi. If you have truly unlimited mobile data quota, it might still be feasible despite restricted speed.
Excuse the ignorance but how do these stack up to G Drive for things like editing Word Documents or PowerPoints? Are u able to have a folder for it on your PC like G and One Drive?
Yup. I pin a network folder to my sidebar in explorer.
@@SomeGadgetGuy much appreciated. Really enjoy these type of videos on expanding our capabilities
Will this work with samsung dex? Id love to free up space from my tablet and phone and also not have to have so many external HDD's. Id be storing alot of games, videos, photos, and documents that id need to be able to access relatively quickly.
For storing content yes, but you can't install a game to the nas that will run on a phone if I understand your question.
@@SomeGadgetGuy yeah, i was hoping I could store everything there and play it via wifi. Similar to a plex server, I guess. Its still a better option than what I have now. I appreciate your content and your replies. You really helped push me to try dex and think more about my consuming habits. Tech tubers always give me fomo and you help balance that out.
Juan, is there an option for jbod format for the qnap?
I honestly don't know. I THINK QNAP sells differnet enclosures for JBOD...
So your wife just walks inside the house and it upload all her media to the NAS! 😳 and there is even a “wait there is more” segment with the NPU? My own cloud can have face detection!!! 🤯 And your even gonna host a competition where we can win our own enclosures!!! 😭
😂
"cloud" is just another computer.
this series is piece of junk, no firmware recovery mode, so the only solution after a failed firmware upgrade is to send it back under warranty, taking weeks to fix. Dont buy it.
and qnap support service center doesnt reply on a created ticket for the failed firmware upgrade problem for at least a week. Only some intro email like can you tell us what leds are blinking when you start the device? After answering that question, dead silence.
