John is an interesting guy. It would be cool to see you speak with him more often. On the topic of universities: I’m an educator at a university myself and it seems pretty obvious to me, at first from the outside and now from the inside, that the universities at some point transitioned to a technical scientific (now scientistic, really) model of education and we are simply living through the inevitable failure of that, which squares well with John’s reading of Spengler, I think. It’s an open question whether the universities can be salvaged, but I hope they can since they constitute an important and somewhat unique cultural institution. Massive consolidation and withering away of less successful and more dogmatic institutions is probably inevitable and necessary. It’s unfortunate for people that might have found a home there at this time but it’s encouraging to think they might be salvaged for future generations. On other topics, I disagree with him a lot, especially regarding Christianity. Spengler identified Anabaptism as exactly the sort of tendency that would characterize the second religiousness. His thoughts are interesting nonetheless.
His critique of Christianity seems to come from an awful place. I think JDE is losing the plot as time goes on. Seems like he’s becoming a den of malefic spirits. I don’t think consulting with mediums is doing him any favours... 👿
He’s always been a bit of a new ager and I think he’s let intuition (which can delude) override his reason on the topic of religion to some degree. He accepts archaeological accounts which contradict Christianity without a whole lot of probing on how valid those claims can possibly be said to be. You see this a lot nowadays because scientific accounts on human, earth, and universe history have offered up a surrogate story to the Christian account and science is pretty powerful. He seems to have completely disregard only this part of Spengler as well. In Spengler, the Catholic spirituality is the ONLY authentic spirituality for Western people and its return is totally inevitable. Reincarnation is also not a fact, not even close. There’s a huge overlap between scientific accounts and Eastern accounts not because they’re right but precisely because we Westerners see them as alternatives. He simply chose the alternative for no good reason.
He critiques christianity so you just say hes possessed instead of arguing his points. I don't agree with what he says about christianity and im not even christian. but im not gonna accuse him of possession.
