It's super indeed. I'm surprised at the number of people that say they've never heard this version because its what I heard on the radio pretty regularly growing up. It was also the highest charting version of the song on Billboard at #5. The best version by far imo. Love how Gayle McCormick delivers on this, (RIP)
Even if I've said it before, it bears repeating: one can never have too much of the Mighty Hammond. It also certainly never hurts to have a gifted/talented/dynamic lead vocalist like Gayle McCormick. I first stumbled upon Smith I never years ago in my virtual (on-line) crate-digging, and was immediately hooked. Gayle's solo work after this is worth checking out, too.
I remember this tune distinctly. Such great vocals and arrangement. Gayle McCormack was a major babe too. She had "star" written all over her. I wonder why it didn't happen for her?
Thanks for watching and commenting. Watching this most might imagine that this band went onto be mega, but Gayle ended up working on the counters in a department store, never mentioning her pop fame to colleagues.

If you find their first LP....buy it. Every.Track.Is.Excellent.
I have it 😊
Gayle McCormick💛
Not only has she got a magnificent voice but she's a very pretty woman. I find myself captivated with her. Amazing talent. RIP Gayle McCormick!!
Thanks for watching and commenting 🙂
I'm with you 100% A stunningly natural beauty.
She’s definitely got that Dusty Springfield husky voice & style. I’ve never heard this before but it’s Superb.
When I first heard this song, I legit thought it WAS Dusty

How does one virtually crate-dig?
This is a new discovery for me. I really like it.
Thanks for watching and commenting, I am glad you found and enjoyed this
Gayle McCormick was a great singer. She had a hit in 1971 called "It's a crying Shame".
Killer riff
Killer looks
Killer voice
Smashing...Oldies but goodies....those were the days my friend......thanks Steevee❤🍻
Your comment is close to spooky, as on the same episode of this show was a 19 year old Mary Hopkin, trying to break into the American market.
One of the all-time…wait for it…greatest vocals 💗
I love this song, I heard it first on the wanderers movie from 1979, I was very young when I saw that movie in the mid 80s this version is great too.

Very cool. I think maybe my new favorite version of this song, actually. Thank you for posting! 👏👏🙂
I have one of their albums which is fantastic. I’m going to listen to it today.
Thank you for this.
Omg I LOVE THIS SONG
More accustomed to the Beatles' version but hey, love the film set for the video!
on a tear Scout!
You getting a wee bit emotional?
Their version of The Weight was on the Easy Rider soundtrack, probably because of licensing issues.
TRES Cool/Heavy
The music is canned, the vocals are LIVE!! She was great.
For every performance on this show and there were 100 or so, all were with a canned backing track, probably too much trouble to set up mics etc
💙
Nice vid.. first heard this song on Death Proof
Me too! Then I discovered my dad (legend that he is) has the single and I was like ❤ yeah, love my dad
Never heard of them before. Looked cool and have a good sound together!
Smith was considered one of those many “One Hit Wonders” that abounded in this era.
epic❤!!
Wrongly, it's said white singers have no "soul". Listen to Gayle as tell me she has no soul. What a great voice!!!
El chaleco de la pava parece la red de recuerdo de la final de la Euroliga. 😂
Interesting rendition but the Carpenters smashed this song out of the park.
Well that's something I'll have to find!
Oh dear...really?
I doubt that
I’m assuming she’s singing live to a recorded musical track. Am I right?
Yes, as did all the guests on this show, as far as I know
