She’s definitely got that Dusty Springfield husky voice & style. I’ve never heard this before but it’s Superb.

When I first heard this song, I legit thought it WAS Dusty

It's super indeed. I'm surprised at the number of people that say they've never heard this version because its what I heard on the radio pretty regularly growing up. It was also the highest charting version of the song on Billboard at #5. The best version by far imo. Love how Gayle McCormick delivers on this, (RIP)

Even if I've said it before, it bears repeating: one can never have too much of the Mighty Hammond. It also certainly never hurts to have a gifted/talented/dynamic lead vocalist like Gayle McCormick. I first stumbled upon Smith I never years ago in my virtual (on-line) crate-digging, and was immediately hooked. Gayle's solo work after this is worth checking out, too.

Gayle McCormick was a great singer. She had a hit in 1971 called "It's a crying Shame".

Your comment is close to spooky, as on the same episode of this show was a 19 year old Mary Hopkin, trying to break into the American market.

I love this song, I heard it first on the wanderers movie from 1979, I was very young when I saw that movie in the mid 80s this version is great too.

I remember this tune distinctly. Such great vocals and arrangement. Gayle McCormack was a major babe too. She had "star" written all over her. I wonder why it didn't happen for her?

Thanks for watching and commenting. Watching this most might imagine that this band went onto be mega, but Gayle ended up working on the counters in a department store, never mentioning her pop fame to colleagues.

Their version of The Weight was on the Easy Rider soundtrack, probably because of licensing issues.

The music is canned, the vocals are LIVE!! She was great.

For every performance on this show and there were 100 or so, all were with a canned backing track, probably too much trouble to set up mics etc

Wrongly, it's said white singers have no "soul". Listen to Gayle as tell me she has no soul. What a great voice!!!
