White Diamond is fantastic stuff, I've used it on Aluminium bodied kit cars, chrome bumpers, tailpipes, even my watch which comes up amazingly with WD!
Just reading someone else's comment has reminded me I recently used WD to de-fog my old X5 headlights after it failed the MOT on them. Came up like new.
A big shoutout to autosol metal polish too. I used the same method as yourself and they looked like new by the end. Autoglym’s is decent too. For the toughest grime I use an acidic wheel cleaner to get the process started.
I actually use Brasso soaked into an old sock for the "belt-sander" style scrub. Cheap, easy by hand and seems to leave a coating that allows subsequent dirt and tarnishing to just pressure wash off at the next wash. Not sure quite how many metal types or finishes it is safe for, but has been fine for my various exhaust pipes so far...
Thanks for another great video Jon. 👍
Good pointers for cleaning up the tail pipes. Simple and effective with a nice clean result. Thanks for covering this aspect.
I've recently bought a BMW F32 which is 2018 and the exhaust tips are in a pretty decent condition. I used Silvo in the little tin and they came great TBH. It takes time and a bit of elbow grease but I got a great finish.
I've just taken the plunge and bought a Blo GT Car Dryer. It might useful to have a video on car dryers, the options/costs and how best to use them. I would certainly find that very useful. Are they much better than towels, should you be using both?
I’d put a coating of AMD details high temp wheel wax to Finnish off. Used it for a few years now, absolutely love it.
Another brilliant video John , would it be worth putting a protectant on the exhaust tips after polishing, to preserve shine ?
This has sealant built in
I used "pink stuff" to clean my exhausts yesterday. For a quid for a massive pot it's well worth it, made a better job of it than the autoglym metal polish.
White diamond is good stuff but California custom Purple metal polish is great stuff.
Made in the USA with a sealer . Thick concentrated and good value. Awesome on hard plastics too like dull headlights .
After watching this I had to go out and polish the exhaust tips on my mini JCW
I watched this whole thing and I have an EV
That stuff is amazing. Use it to polish Dads semis.
Great action John
good vid, keep them coming fella
I use paint polish like Koch chemie H8.02 or Angelwax resurrection :) works amazing on metals too.
I use abit of kkd revolve x ceramic on my exhaust tips makes cleaning so much easier
Labocosmetica do a great decarboniser product. Obviously won’t polish the metal but will definitely remove all that carbon without the abrasion
Use 0000 wire wool with metal polish then buff 👌
John, Try using some Pink Stuff polish!
Cheers John
Must admit if you spend that much time on doing it, I'd deffo get the dremmel out and do the inside to keep it easier next time!!
Never thought of using a dremmel I may buy one after your comment! What do you use it for primarily as a detailer? Exhaust seems the only logical place to use it?
Bilt hamber auto wheel might be useful
I like Mothers metal polish
Mothers is on par with white diamond really but I find wd is better for hand use, especially polished alloys, proper metal polishing cloths help too, kind of a chamois and microfibte mix and wrapped around a block they really help with finish consistency over larger areas eg polished tt comp alloys and the like
What pipe have you got on the CS Jon?
Stock m8
I am having this bloody issue right now Jon.
My Tiguan R has those bloody brushed aluminium effect window trims and they are stained to hell.
Tried water spot removers and such but nothing is working.
Just worried about trying metal polish in case it destroys the finish totally.
its its not metal dont use white diamond mate. best bet might be a bit of super resin polish but just be carefull test tiny area.
@@ForensicDetailing cheers buddy. I'm not sure to be honest. It does feel like metal but nothing is shifting the staining.
Use harpic bleech and thank me later. The acid in it eats the oxidized crap and takes all the effort out of doing this.
I use it on my motorcycle headers and it's so much easier than trying to grind away at it.
Yeah, once cleaned defo worth ceramic coating with some high temp coating designed for wheels - will save you “buffing your nuts off” next time 😂
Beware... All that glitters isn't necessarily gold! A lot of what looks like metal on cars nowadays isn't actually a raw metal finish so double check you're not actually polishing away a lacquer.
Silvo (like brasso but... Erm... silver) is very good for chrome. Takes away any tarnishing without damaging the actual chrome layer.
Another tip for chrome is to clean it regularly in the winter. The combination of salt, water and crud on our roads is a perfect recipe for corrosion if allowed to sit on the chrome for too long.
For other metals, polishing is much the same as for paint finishes... Start with only the most aggressive abrasive required to remove the "defect" then work your way through a series of finer and finer abrasives until you get the finish you're after.
A coat of sealant over that will help preserve the finish for longer (sealants designed for alloy wheels are a good bet for exhaust tailpipes cos they can deal with the heat without yellowing)
love this thank you so much knowledge
@@ForensicDetailing I could bore you for hours about automotive chrome 😂
