Thank you for this informative video! I just had a follow-up appointment with Neuro a few days ago and they mentioned that we need to get control of my right hand contractor or else it could turn into a joint issue. My hand has been contracted since I was fifteen. My feet are as well, but my hand is severe.
You are a wonderful speaker. Believe it or not I am trying to find solutions for my dog, who developed what I thought was a contracture but now think is spasticity, after knee surgery. I'd like to try a botox injection but I cannot find a vet who will do it.
@@UtahNeuroRehabilitation What's funny is that I'd bet a lot that Botox etc. were tested extensively on animals, & probably dogs. It's ironic that no dog will be able to now reap the benefit!! Right now her only options are pain medication (carprofen), muscle relaxant (methocarbamol, which I don't really think did much & I'm not willing to have it administered IV), Adequan injections for the knee joint, and physical therapy/stretching, which I do for her every day, although lately she's not so into it. I wish I could get the Botox for her. I'm not willing to do Baclofen, too risky for a dog. I do watch your & others' videos re stretching etc. hoping that something can help her. If you know of any veterinarian who would be willing to do it, I would travel far & wide for it. Thanks again!
Hi ma'am, My son is 9 with Diplegia n feel he has started forming contractures in the ankle with midfoot break does he still give botox again n cast help to reduce or avoid contractures?
Botox and casting may help. If not, you could consider orthopedic surgery. The Utah Neuro Rehabilitation RUclips channel has more videos on this. There is a cerebral palsy playlist.
I have significant contracture and hemiplegic right arm. Didn’t start to see any improvements or relief until I got a referral for occupational therapy. PT can only do so much for me.
Hello Can I just have one question so I have a brain swelling the side after to my left side now my left side very weakness and my neurologist say I have a muscle plasticity and he send I go to physical medicine and rehabilitation you think that's can help my weakness go away and I may getting better??? Thank you so much
Often there is much you can do to help. Even if it does not totally go away, people can improve. Yes, see Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. Also, on the Utah Neuro Rehabilitation RUclips channel there are stroke and brain injury playlists. There are many suggestions to improve on these videos.
Short video but very informative!
Thank you for your excellent video. Well done!

I don’t think I have stiff person syndrome, even though I have type 1 diabetes and tested positive for GAD. I think I have this!!
Thank u so much for your reply. He had given him once botox it was quite helpful but right leg is bit weaker than left n foot alignment is bit off.

That is really interesting.

It is posible to don’t be in a treatment for 4 years and doesn’t have a change in your symptoms or a contracture?
Yes, some spasticity is much more severe than others. If it is not really severe, it may not worsen.

How do we differentiate a contacture & rigidity?
Check out the video on this channel: Is it spasticity, dystonia or rigidity?
I do have generalized dystonia, but right hand has definitely turned into a contracture.
Mine is a contracture due to stroke but was also spasticity

@@lucid6067 I’ve done everything and the hand surgeon I’m going to said she can make it better but not 100%
But what kind of doctor do you see for this ???
A physiatrist or neurologist.
