A correlated color temperature can have an infinite number of different white points at the same CCT. For example 6504K is the CCT of D65 white point, however 6504K can be achieved with other white point coordinates.
BTW, what display are you checking the color grades on, and how well is it calibrated? That could be a big step in you finding the best camera color, by having a proper display of the colors on your monitor.
You look like a northern tourist visiting us here in Florida after a day at Disney
Hahahahahahahahahah!!!!!! So dang true!
Lobster 🦞 people
Floridian: can confirm.
Lol
Its the low pass filter over the sensor with the UV/IR cut filter combined with the aa filter. Each cameras UV/IR/AA filter has different cut off points for UV and IR (AA is irrelevant) Your Sony is seeing UV reflected off of your sun scared face, WHILE YOUR SHOULDERS LOOK GOOD! No redness on your shoulders - DO YOU SEE THAT? Well why is the Sony seeing the sun scarring on your face, not on your shoulders? Because you never take off your shirt. The Canon cameras UV cut portion is cutting @300nm or higher.
* The human eye can only see light between 300nm to 700nm *
Then there's the IR cut which is usually above 700nm. So the Canon, Sony and all cameras can do IR photography but with really long exposures using an external IR filter cutting out light below 700nm. So the cameras IR cut filter will be above visible light 700nm and up to maybe 780nm, and that sliver of between 700nm and 780nm is enough to capture IR styled images with 30 second exposures in broad daylight.........
Cameras generally have overly saturated reds BECAUSE THE CAMERA CAN SEE INFRA RED AND RECORD IT IN AN IMAGE FOR US TO SEE! Thats why reds are too hot.
Go buy a Hoya UV/IR cut filter that for 100% cuts out light below 300nm and above 700nm. Then your white balance will be much improved, BUT your exposure will change because you've got a little less of the incorrect light coming through.
Your explanation while correct, sucks
Well color science is my reason number one why I didn't go back to Sony. For photos it doesn't matter much but for video it's a big pain. I just want to drop my video and be ready to go further with stuff with no editing and waisting time. Fuji and Nikon are still the best when it comes to result straight out of the camera.
Now X-H2 is really interesting as it seems like finally they fixed their magenta WB issue and autofocus is now somewhat reliable so I guess I will stay in the Fuji camp.
I think the type of skin also has a big impact. I could never get the redness of my dad's skin just right with my xt3 but the a7iv nails it everytime.
OMG!!! I actually preferred the Olympus color balance!!!
This could not be more accurate of quandary Lolol. The tone and performance is Emmy worthy. This is actual facts.
I tried to match Sony colors like Canon too, lol. After Logs, HLG, etc, I found a nice tone, rather simple. PP off. Landscape profile. -2, -1, 0. You lose a little bit dynamic range but Colors are pleasing (for me). You ‘re right about a correct WB.
Fuji Astia---excellent choice for skin tones.
Y'know, you could always get a used Canon T4i for $200. It shoots 1080 for like 29 minutes and doesn't overheat. Load it up with the Magic Lantern aftermarket firmware and then play around with some random lenses. Oh yeah, it has a flippy screen, hot shoe, and tripod mount, too.
Have you messed with any of the mid 1970s-80s Pentax 50mm lenses? The 1.4 and 1.7 are kinda nice. No AF or stabe, but for fixed or distance shots you'll get the vintage cinema glass and toneh look for cheap, haha. Cheap fun and content your subscribers crave!
Cheers from the other side of The Peace Bridge! -chaz
I think we need a color science smackdown. Sony, vs fuji, vs canon vs olympus vs nikon vs blackmagic vs panasonic vs ricoh vs Pentax vs gopro!

This is pure gold. I tried to subscribe five times, but since I already was, I was just switching the button from grey to red and back.
Dude! The beginning is hilarious 😂😂😂
Now that the s5ii has the real time lut feature, you actually should make this contest. Make lumix match or beat canon colors.
30 seconds in -- Sony SunBurnTone-3 Profile engaged!
I think the differences is the uv filter that is built onto the front of the sensor. That's what makes the colors different on a hardware at capture level.
Mexican Smoker Cowboy is my new favorite LUT, where's the download link?
I also struggle with Sony color. Contrast effects color. Try twiddling the contrast when you think your close but not quite there.
Canon quality is superb
Them canon colors are great, and they have slight more contrast. I was surprised by the 6D II myself. Wondering how it compares to the R6.
They are close, I have owned both
@@anoopchaudhary8732 That's good to know, I used to be a Nikon shooter, then Sony, now Canon. I still own the others, but loving the R6 now more.
Ahhh, camera obsession...You do get close to skin perfection with Sony S-Log3 using Canon R5 color science. Thomas Dolby would be proud w/ the hard work you put in on this!
Rise the highlights on the Sony, and you get much closer. On some cameras (my old Panasonic) you have to rise the highlights more in low iso settings and lower the highlights
in high iso settings.
I shoot Canon, Fuji and Sony (I have a problem), Astia is the one for me. If Fuji could focus, I would throw all the other cameras in the garbage, or at least sell them on marketplace.
That Fuji Astia is too good; there's no way you're allowed to use that...! 🤣
Would you care to share setting on that astia profile? Wb, color correction, shadows, color, highlights... Please
Have you tried Phantom Luts for slog3. They are also making the skin more white 😺
Try adjusting "color phase" in picture profiles. It shifts all colors to the right or left on the color wheel. You can easily make your shirt closer to orange like on the canon. Maybe it is all you need?
You think I haven't? lol.
That intro 😂😂😂
Cine4, COlour mode pro
The end.
Theres 2 adjustments on sony on the colours.
one is phase, which changes the HUE,
The other changes the luminance of the colour.
neither of those options changes the saturation.
I’m not sure where I heard it it may have even been you and one of your own videos that I watched where I think it rings true that out of all of the manufacturers Canon’s colour science Secret source is not in the colours but it’s ability to calculate white balance the best compared to other brands
Oly colors ftw! 👌
Canon colors are gorgeous. They got that magic touch.
Yep. Fuji colors are magical that’s why I love my XT4. Unfortunately the autofocus is awful so my Canon R5 is also needed lol
Stan, is that you? 0:00
Fuji AWB has this line of code in its algorithm that says nothing is allowed to be green. If it sees one leaf in shot: Prepare for purple.
Astia is the best one because it shifts magenta to red/orange. Fucks up your sunsets, but fixes everything else.
LOLOLOLOL.......You are a legend and 100% deserve my sub and like! I laughed so much my stomach ached.....truth is im subd to many photography channels but this trumps them all hands down when it comes to photographic humour. Talk about photography humour! (Theres also a lot of serious advice too here You!)
You rock!!!!
Planet terror lut confirmed
Fuji astia looks the best of all that was shown here btw, which surprised me because I always liked eterna
I have a Sony Alpha A7IV with a 24-70mm G Master Lens and use the S-Cinetone PP11 color, since my skin toneis like a medium brown, I don't have those red or yellow Jaundice look. But I do most of my videos with a 5K color LED Lighting indoors 90% of the time so maybe that's why I don't have any issues with that. But in your case it looks like you must continue the Quest to find the perfect camera!!!!!!! 😎
Have you tried "Creative Style" "Portrait"? I watched someone on RUclips saying that it should give better colors.
Pentax actually has great colours if only they’d ever bother to put video in their cameras. Samsung used to partner with Pentax, there’s an alternate universe where they didn’t break up and the perfect camera exists Samsung tech with Pentax glass and colours 🤓 in that universe you have your teenage girl skin Kasey
Canon colors are great. But Fuji colors are the best!
I use S-Log 3 Gamma, S-Cinetone colors.
I like that colour
I can't give you any camera settings because I don't own them. But I could create a specific LUT to fix the yellow/red ballance for the Sony.
The S-Log3 to Canon LUT actually looks very good, nothing too weird, maybe a slight excess of Sony reptilian green lol. Colour science is real though and LUTs can't fully replicate it. I don't know how camera companies do it, but I imagine they have like smart LUTs, that change depending on the scene. Like the brain will perceive the exact same colour (according to eyedropper reading) in different ways depending on how it appears amongs other colours. And just applying a LUT doesn't take that into account.
The A7SIII does infrared? Rad.
Deep down, way way deep down, you know that Panasonic color science is the answer to all of your questions. Don’t fight it
but only in vlog and HLG
My biggest complaint about Panasonic was their pig skin skin tones.
@@cameraconspiracies yeah man just like a great movie! 🐷🐽
Panasonic has purple lips. But who cares when you are not in focus, right?
@@cameraconspiracies wasn´t that Fuji?
LOL. You should do stand up comedy!
Sunburn LUT ftw.
Hey Kasey, I have a good idea for your next vlog. Slap a Sony 11mm f1.8 aps-c lens on a a7siii body, set it to active stabe and crop it in post to get 14mm field of view and get rid of the vignette. I think your audience will be amazed with the results. It is possible to vlog indoors with this set up also.
Approx. 1/3 the weight and half the money of a Sony 14mm f1.8 full frame lens! A Russian guy on RUclips did it first, but I want to see how the Toronto neighborhood turns out.
I've already reviewed that setup.
Go for black and white, boy!
A74 has a all new color science, would you try?
“The most hated species on the planet.” So true these days 🤣
You might be on to something there, but Panasonic is your answer 😁. It would be nice to see the difference between all cameras. Did you still have a G9 or anything Panasonic? Cheers 🍻
There was that time I tried recording somebody with a darker skin complexion (middle east light brown) with a sony. It was ungradable in any profile, and a clipped orange mess, no matter how careful I exposed. It drove me nuts and made me buy a BMPCC 6k, and to never record anything below 12-bit raw.
Almost reminds me of spagett but everywhere
Loved that Cheetos lut
Kasey, you're confusing "less red" with what you actually need is "less magenta". If you've spent as much time as me in print (35 years) the 3 color additive/4 color subtractive thing is second nature. "Less magenta" equals "more green" and the question of where you balance the movement along the 0 to 256 curve (0% printer to 100% printer in subtractive print work) becomes the more relavant question. Start in the middle (affects the most things) and work toward the extremes.
Oh my fuji 👀I just upgraded my X-T30 to X-S10... not sure if upgraded is the right term when you're still roaming around in the rubbish but now I have IBIS and IBS
This was funny xD Thanks
🤣 Canon vs Hoser
That was good info btw. It's totally worth the brain squeeze. Thanks dude.
Lmao WHEW that is the color science right there!
What if you put a mirror as reference?
It would make easier to know the "correct" color
Canon is unmatched for color profiles. I am talking about stills too.
It really depends what body. I tried R6 and I was reminded of my horrible times with A7 mark I. Canon R6 has really bad yellow/green colors. Canon R5 though totally different beast with beautiful colors.
You have difficult choices. The Sony gives you a superhero personna: "The Incredible Screaming Lobster Man". The Olympus, due to the microscopic crop factor, makes you become, "The Gargantuan Pinkish Head" which could be a worthy enough foe to coax Gamera out of retirement to make a new monster movie (they just don't make them like they used to). The Canon, on the other hand, has perfect color and 1980's resolution. But it could be disco dynamite!!!
Thats a perfect demo how _not_ to wb a cam ;-) K on cam A is NOT K on cam B... You need to WB with a greycard (take a shot on Sony/Canon and set your wb to that image) ... ONLY that´s how you will have 100% wb. Kelvin settings ONLY work in combination with Magenta/Green shift, which noone is using. Try it and compare it again. 🙃
You ever try bumping up exposure on Sony vs canon?
dude you are so funny 🤣
To change those colors (besides the LUTs), are you selecting White Balance and then pressing to the right to get to that rainbow square full of color values? Is that the +7 you're talking about? Since that has two axes, it should be possible to make the red more orangey...
No, the colour depth where you can + or - each colour.
@@cameraconspiracies Okay, gotcha. 👍
Is this "color" issue only with the videos Or photos too? So, which camera brand has the best color when it comes to photos? What about videos?
Any light that is not the color of the subject ruins the picture. If the subject is a human, the light from the window will make it look orange to the camera. Cameras see colors differently from humans and in my opinion, canon is aiming more for what our eyes see as natural and sony leans more into capturing as many colors as they can. It's easy to observe it - just take a shot of something and look at the shot side by side with the subject in real life. The picture will look completely different from what you see, but we usually just calibrate our vision to the scene in the picture, so we don't notice it. Also, if you try to set the auto white balance to true white, sony is going to add a ton more purple and green. Set it to scene priority even if it's "against the rules of a good shot" and sony's gonna look truly awesome, but it won't be balanced.
" light (the foundation of photography) has variable color temperatures at different times of the day. Your eyes are much better at processing color than a digital camera. Thus a white object will always appear white to you, despite the conditions. White balance is the process that the camera uses to remove color casts produced by these different color temperatures and helps your camera emulate whaty our eyes do naturally when dealing with white"
Also, older cameras just have some magical look to them, just like film has one. Sony's not about magic like canon with their old colorscience, sony is very clinical in capturing colors and I think that when the dynamic range on cameras will come to the level of our eyes, sony is going to look the most natural
maybe wearing a green shirt will help off-set the reds?
What about HLG?
Great video...but you tatally forgot about Nikon...At least they have good colours... ;-)
Cant Peter Mckinnon abrakadabra you the right settings?
Your birds don’t have skin tones to worry about anyway. But you should try the A74, it has the updated color science.
Doesn't the Canon RP share the sensor of the 6DII? I'm sure the processor is totally different but did they code it the same and is the color as good?
I dont care about AF speed. But aperture priority and a manual lens are critical.
Give me 2 cripple hammers ™ for that sweet Canon colour. U can’t beat it.
It might also be the lenses, my Canon lenses adapted to my sony give a more yellow tinge than native Sony lenses... Try it, secret may be Canon glass!
Nikon users reply: Dancing and singing "Can't touch this!"
I'll make sure to take a shower to wash off my shame after I find those settings.
There's a simple solution ...... just use a Canon Camera 👍👍😎
Very good
Canon colors while pleasing (a little blue) they’ve never matched Panasonic, and Leica alway was and is best in industry today. For amateurs on a budget Canon is a great choice.
Do you know if recording in OBS can ever give the same quality as recording in-camera to SD?
I actually liked S-Cinetone the most.
Why are you fighting it so hard? Canon is the answer.
Try adding contrast to s cinetone.... that one looked the closet to me
How many cameras do u have?
Haha. If it wasn’t for phantom luts and Caleb pikes luts, I would have returned the A7SIII. They made it possible for an absolute noob like myself to get great Looking footage on the Sony
I love you. The algorithm kept us apart but I have found you again, at long last!!
we should take the result as read ... or red ... that's the way I read it ... you ready?
The problem for RUclipsrs like yourself is, that you have access to so many different camera systems and you keep compering them to one another, often side by side.
Us peasant, whom has but a few cameras from the same manufactories, seldom have all those problems RUclipsrs find.
Kasey, I guess it is your destiny to never be happy, until you find the perfect camera.
That's the nature of a G.A.S.-ridden person, they do suffer but it's a different kind of suffering knowing they can't nail down the small extra needed.
🤣✋✋

Have you tried HLG3?
The Fuji monkey pox film simulation still in beta.
Oly still the best colors have to say.
I asked my first mate to accept this challenge and he’s drifting somewhere between Bermuda and Cape Verde now. Turns out he knew squat about Sony color science. A pirate should be ready for anything. T’is the code. Anyway, we sail on.
Maybe it helps if you eat right... less dumpster raiding.
The part about being the most hated because of your whiteness had me dying! 😂😂😂😂😂😂
