I feel like she was thrown into a coma and the idea of cancer killing her family was just her brain trying to rationalize things while her mind slowly faded away in the coma still remembering but not entirely existing as she slipped into the coma deeper and deeper loosing all thought process. She was probably wheeled around by her family subconsciously receiving new information(her teachers baby being born but since she didn’t actually see it it had no features) but as she slowly got worse she probably stayed in the hospital. Taking in all the sounds of sickness and nurses running about making it up in her mind that it was her trying to save her family as she and them slowly faded away.
I thought this as well
He seemed annoyed when the introduction of the story was as long as it was, but I feel like that just added to the sadness we felt when each character died

This was such a bizarre fever dream, but I loved it.
To people who are saying that they don’t like the use of cancer being treated as something small like a common cold, I’m pretty sure that’s what the story is going for.
What makes it disturbing in the first place is how people in this reality treat huge things like hardly a big deal. That’s why Maya is so freaked out.
To be honest, I think the only unnecessary thing was the whole “jelly baby” thing. Since cancer is such a big deal, adding “jelly babies” into the story makes it way less serious.
I think that the jelly babys represent the ever growing cancer that maya had, since she never left the ar booth and the radiation would get to her, it engulfing her is probably ment to show that cancer finally taking control of her, and the rest of the world dying represents her brain dying from the cancer
Yea it wasn't the best move, but it's also because of a popular theory that she's in a simulator... Maybe it's connected to that Princess game?
She is still in the simulation:
1)the gel people are place holders ,for new non existing people, like in videogames. The people that maya kwen and love and also strangers are already in the code,because the machine use datas from maya's mind but also from the real world, in fact this is an ar non vr experience . But new born people that doesen't exist in the real world , will become the jelly bean people, because the simulation is in a early development state ("under construction")
2 the placeholders attacks maya,because they are programmed to put her at the center of attenction,like during the birthday simulation.
3) she died inside the ar chamber because of the pression of the ar band but also because she finished her oxigen. And cancer is a metaphor of her leaving behind the people that she love before diyng.
4) the roller coaster mentioned in the story is similar to foxy pirate adventure from fnaf help wanted. So this also indicates that maybe maya is really in a simulation and and that behind all this there may be glitchtrap's hand

No wonder! If Taking in color symbolism, the lightning bolts on the Hiding booths are yellow, in which yellow symbolizes danger and caution.
As if warning to stay away from or being cautious with.
As if Telling us that this detail is something that should be noticed or taken into concern.
Again, that’s if You take in color symbolism.
What if the Hiding booths used to be the AR Booths?
Since the book is mentioning her having a bunch of headaches I think that's where her soul and subconscious trying to tell her that none of this is real. It was also a earlier sign of the glitches just that was the reason why it's under construction too many people are complaining about the headaches after wearing the headset for too long.
When I've read this, I feel like Maya has to be trapped in the digital world when everyone was dying and the jelly like monsters were around her neighborhood.
It very much implied this as the machine is unfinished and glitched it most likely killed her and put her soul into the simulation not to mention the headache is probably her getting shocked

8:05 While playing the game Alan Wake they talk about that quantum immortality it's in one of the TVs when you play the game the professor made a gun shoots himself and still alive and it said the way that he's still alive because another version of him in the multiverse has died while he is still alive claiming that he found quantum immortality that's until it accidentally got unplugged at the end and he died.

I'm honestly surprised this was even allowed to be published, considering the recommended age is 12 year old children and up. I personally don't mind it but i get that it can be a sensitive topic.

This is something they do in the Catholic Church so maybe she's Catholic. This is in the first time Scott mention religion before.
I get this story's purpose was to show how so many people seem to treat cancer as no big deal, but I was just so uncomfortable the entire time. I lost both my grandfathers, an uncle, my godmother, and one of my childhood cats to cancer.
It was just a hard listen is all.
I feel like it was not actually cancer, but something passable as cancer. But that is just a theory.

this story was really messed up. they shouldn't use cancer like its just a cold. that's messed up.
That was the point of the story. Everyone in the simulation was acting normal and happy about it, like it was the flu, except for maya, she realized how screwed up everything was and tried to help everyone and make them aware of the problem which was that more than the Half of the population is dying because of it. In fact, she was the only person who understood it, since she was the only real one there.

Also on listening to this for a second time, it reminds me a lot of Somniphobia.

On may 16 I listen to this audiobook and fell asleep which I was 3 minutes only into it because that’s just how your voice wants me to fall asleep quickly. I was getting ready for school and my mom said,”did you have a nightmare last night.” I said no. Then she told me at 4:30 AM she heard a scream and it sounded like a girl. I said that a boys can scream like a girl too. I mean I love having nightmares cause I love creepy stuff. But then I had a full 8 hours of sleep and usually I would be energetic but I was tired so yeah, I probably had a nightmare last night and I didn’t remember. I think this audiobook scared my dream and turned it into a nightmare. But thanks for the audiobooks and I would have never found(which you are amazing) if my friend didn’t bring a Freddy files book to girls camp. Thank you for reading this❤❤❤

I genuinely hate this story, it's writing was great but what's any of this have to do with FNAF or even anything relevant, it's disgusting with how cancer is used in this like it's the flu or a virus and that cancer joke was super tasteless idk why this wasn't scrapped
I’m pretty sure that the whole point of this story is showing how people in it treat cancer like no big deal. That’s what makes it so disturbing and good

I stopped halfway through cause I just can't stand this story. Why tf include people getting cancer like it was the common cold?
I get that this is a horror story and all but including cancer like this was not even remotely good story telling.

I’m pretty sure the whole point of the story is that people in the story are treating cancer like it’s hardly a big deal though.
The story was kinda bad, it didn't have anything to do with anything really, especially not fnaf, I guess quantum immortality is what is happening to her, so everyone else is dying around her, if not then why bring it up? It also implies she's stuck in the simulation, but it doesn't feel very simulation-y just kinda a weird alternate reality. When it says something like "I wish this could go on forever" or "she thought about it going on forever" (I can't remember exactly) when she is initially in the simulation I expected her to be stuck and maybe there is like some fnaf monster hunting her or something like that, not everyone dying of cancer and babies being born as jelly beans. Also usually with these stories the main character has done something bad or is just a bit of a bad person, and they develop in the story but don't always survive, but with this one she's just kinda a flawless child and doesn't grow as a person at all. I'm really not liking these new stories at all
