Love this....I was a highland dancer from age 5 to 16. This brings back great memories. I'm now 48yrs....young. The highland games are an awesome experience.
My town in Nova Scotia has the oldest games in the world (outside of Scotland) it's a huge event. My high school didn't have a track & field team (for some reason) so those athletes would compete in Highland Games instead. A guy I played football with got sponsored to compete in caber toss and travel internationally, it helped pay for teaching degree! Girls would take highland dancing instead of ballet, etc, many local girls over the years would reach #1-#3 in the world at times. I agree Donna, it's a great experience and more boys & girls should get involved!
The Jacobite rebellion was multi-layered. While there were probably many Scotts who thought, or were told, that they would be granted independence in victory. Officially, the Jacobites were fighting to restore the British monarchy in exchange for the Jacobite religion being made the official church of all Britain.
