The FIRST and BEST beginners knitting tutorial online! I’ve searched and searched for simplicity to knitting. Why do people wanna make it so complex? I love the ease of increasing without worries and my favorite DROP stitches!!! You did a WONDERFUL job! I’m unsubscribing to ALL the other knitting channels. Yours is #1!!! Thank YOU!
I have watched quite a few people making triangular wrap on you tube. I think this is the best of all. I like the tip of the shawl is pointy. Some start with 3 stitches and some start with 7 or 9. This starts with one. I don't have to worry about decreasing stitches half way through. The pattern is so simple and easy. Just yarn over every time and make it as big or small I want. I don't have to figure out which row (odd or even) I am doing even when I put it down. I can add some "twists" to it whenever I feel like. And the demonstration is very clear. Thanks so much for the video. I really enjoy it!
I am so thrilled that you knit COntinental style because that’s how I knit and many videos show the other way of knitting. So glad that I found you!!!!
Thank you for this tutorial, I am making this shawl. This video has made me go visit with Mr. Google to remind me about these knitting styles and YES, my Momma taught me in 'English style'. As a visual lesson/learning tool I find the use of the short wired needles and continental style a mumbo-jumbo of too many hand movements. You are constantly re-setting, either the twisting needles or that left-hand bringing the yarn forward etc. etc. As an Architect, I appreciate simplicity and deft efficient hand movements- just s-a-y-i-n-g. ;)
Thank you for this tutorial. I have just completed my first knitting project thanks to you! I am a crocheter and always found knitting hard to do, but I persevered and did this pattern and now I have a wonderful shawl. I'm so happy! Thank you again :D
Thank you this is super easy. When am done I'll make a video and tagged you in it . Am using premier lite sequin yarn that is self striping. It so beautiful.
I've not practiced how to knit continental-style yet, but this video certainly helped me create a practical piece. Thank you very much for the great video quality and easy explanation. :-)
I love how you yarn over. I knit continental too and never saw yo's done this way but it is alot easier. Thanks for the tutorial I was having issues with written pattern with my work being too loose but seeing this video it looks much neater.
Great tutorial even for a beginner like myself! Just started knitting a summer shawl and love the drop stitch ideas with a regular garter stitch pattern! And fantastic to see a continental knitter as I’m also a continental knitter, so easy to follow than English style tutorial (I just get lost in English style one..) Just subscribed!! 💜
Thanks for this easy pattern. I’m just learning to knit. As a crocheted I find the continental is easier to do. I did adapt the pattern. I didn’t like the look of the yarn over at the beginning of each row. So I used the knit front and back for the first stitch. It makes for a much neater edge. But that is what I love about crochet and knitting. You can take what you know and make something uniquely yours.
That is very nice. Now I need a pair of circular knitting needles. I knew I was going to need them eventually Thank you for the pattern and tutorial. 😊
When knitting the drop stitch rows, do I increase the number of stitches at all? I'm finding that I am getting straight side sections. What am I doing wrong? PS - lovely shawl, thank you for the pattern.
Hi Linda! I did not increase in those drop stitch sections...if you go to the link on my blog, you can probably see in the photo that I have straight side sections where there are drop stitch areas. It only increases in the garter stitch portions of the triangle scarf. Thanks for asking!
Im interested in how to do this where I knit a row then purl a row and still do a yarn over during the purl and keep it looking right. Im very very very new to knitting and trying to so a loose triangle with my home spun fingering weight 2 ply. I plan on one about 6ft wide at the top. I knit english flicking style sorta.
I have a question and I hope this makes sense. I'm just learning how to knit and hold the yarn. I have the added obstacle of being visually impaired. I'm having trouble seeing and it seems that people are wrapping the yarn around the needle the opposite way for continental and American style. I hope that makes sense. I love your pattern and your patterns are one of the reasons I wanted to learn to knit. Thank you for your help.
This is my first time making a triangle shawl, just wondering if I should increase the stitches more because I just finished a scarfie skein and it just seems to be long and skinny ,before I start on my next skein, or will it eventually widen at the top it is currently about 28" wide at top before blocking.
Thank you for your pattern and video! Can this be made with chunky yarn? If so, how many yards would I need. I have some beautiful Malabrigio Rasta yarn that I would like to use.
BEST. Drop stitch demo ever!! I have had an issue with these (I'm also a crocheter learning to knit) and this made it VERY clear! Thank you so much for this tutorial!! Do you know how/where to get a pattern for a diagonal CROCHETED Shawl/scarf? I simply cannot find a crocheted one ANYWHERE online! I love the Linus shawl but it's knit and I don't know how to turn it into a crocheted version. Thank you!!
Hi! I’m attempting this with stockinette. Two questions: How do I increase when I purl? Not sure which way to yarn over, and how do I keep my edges neat? I light a tight stitch but the ends of my purl rows have such a loose stitch. Drives me crazy!
Ok loved the idea and tutorial. Just one problem it doesn’t cover my arms end up to shoe around the arms and cover them to keep warm. Any tips please to fix this??? Other than this very pretty pattern.
Do you necessarily have to use circular needles, or could you get away with just normal ones? Thank you for this tutorial, I really want to try this out, but don't have a pair of circular needles :(
i’m a begining beginner so what size needles do i need in us size or uk size & what ply wool & what length including cable ? any help would be wonderful
Hello, Mama In A Stitch, did you use only 1 skien of Lion Brand Shawl-In-A-Ball for this project? Your project looks more like an equilateral triangle. I would like to have it come out more isosceles obtuse triangle. Should I do an increase on both ends or can you suggest a better way? Not really new in knitting but still struggling. HAPPY NEW YEAR!
I am doing this pattern on a very long pair of circular needles. I yarn over at the beginning of each row then knit until the end. I am worried that the shawl will get so large I won't have any room left on my needles. Am I doing something wrong?
Parker Himley I know you asked this 2 months ago but I think as long as you have long enough knitting needles it should be ok with just straight. I prefer circular when making these projects so the stitches aren't all bunched together on straight needle and hard to work.
Is there a right or wrong way to do a yarn over? I've been doing my yarn overs the same way you're doing in this video. I ask because I keep seeing yarn overs done in different ways so that it creates a hole in the work. Mine doesn't have any holes along the edge.
So I have a pattern and she said to use size 19 knitting needles and do two different yarns. It’s wool and acrylic yarn. I’m so nervous to even begin it.
What I’m going to try is making two smaller ones on 14 inch needles and stitch them together in the middle. I just do not at all like circular needles. 😂

Wow as a absolute beginner I found an actual pattern I can try making a shawl with! Thank you so much!
I am so thrilled that you knit COntinental style because that’s how I knit and many videos show the other way of knitting. So glad that I found you!!!!
This is fascinating! I am a beginner, continental style and I can do this! So cool! Thank you.

Thank you for yr kindness. From South Africa.
Thank you for making this so easy! I am left handed & learning to knit. I am able to work this stitch with you to make sure it looks the same ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thank you for this tutorial. I have just completed my first knitting project thanks to you! I am a crocheter and always found knitting hard to do, but I persevered and did this pattern and now I have a wonderful shawl. I'm so happy! Thank you again :D
That is so awesome. I was looking for something open and super soft. Very good job.😊
lovely video, easy to follow! I folowed along, but i'm using a bulky fluffy yarn, to make a winter shawl. The office is so cold at work!
Thank you this is super easy. When am done I'll make a video and tagged you in it . Am using premier lite sequin yarn that is self striping. It so beautiful.
I am also making this shawl and have been binging your channel! :)

Just received several sizes of knitting needles and I am doing this soon.♥️🔥🤫 not attempting the drop stitches just yet.

I learned something amazing through your video. So interesting. Love it. Thank you so so much ♥
lovely shawl. i am following your blog and because of your easy techniques im finally starting to knit cardigans...keep on posting :)
Your patterns are beautiful and beginner friendly!!!

Could you still just yarn over the first stitch like normal, then do the row if drop stitches?
thank you so much for taking the time to film and explain this!
Exactly what I’ve been looking for.
I knit continental. So this is a great tutorial for me.

Thanks for doing this so slowly so it’s easy to follow! Can you show how to do this the other way? I don’t knit continental
These may make some Mother's Day gifts. Thanks for sharing!
Also, did you use the entire skein, or do you think you could make more than 1 shawl with one skein?
Can you pls give me an idea of yardage using worsted weight yarn - I want to buy enough yarn & dont have a clue. Many thanks!
She said this is the yarn she used. www.lionbrand.com/shawl-in-a-ball-yarn.html
Do you have a picture of an all garter stitch finished? Also how to decide what size needle with what type of yarn to give a nice drape?
Can you please tell me the yarn you used for this project
...I love it
Thank you for the easiest beginner knit shawl!
I love that yarn! What yarn are u using here please and thank you
@@bxgal347 it’s discontinued but called Shawl In A Ball. You can use any worsted or light yarn though!
Thank you for such a fantastic tutorial ! I am just beginning to learn to knit and you made that so easy , thank you so much

Where is the pattern for the knitted triangle Shaw
Thank you so much for the amazing tutorial Jessica!!!!
Thanks for sharing this helpful tutorial ! 😊💗

Maybe I should have said, asymmetrical scarf/shawl!!!
New subscriber thank u for this brilliant shawl pattern ❤
Thanks for subbing!

Thank you 🙏🏻 for your slow teaching. I’m new again to needles. I’m spinning my own yarn. I would love to see more open combinations if you do them?
Thanks - having fun knitting this 😊
Could we do this with garter tab cast on to avoid the triangle point please???Thank you
Hi 👋
I was thinking about maybe trying this with leftover sock yarn and a smaller needle. What do you think?
What length circular needles should you use? And how wide is the finished shawl?
Ok loved the idea and tutorial. Just one problem it doesn’t cover my arms end up to shoe around the arms and cover them to keep warm. Any tips please to fix this??? Other than this very pretty pattern.
do you increase the row when you do droppt stitches ???
Excellent tutorial.
What yarn is best for these shawls?
Hello, Mama In A Stitch, did you use only 1 skien of Lion Brand Shawl-In-A-Ball for this project? Your project looks more like an equilateral triangle. Sorry, it's 1 skien of shawl in a ball. I forgot you specified in your pattern already :)
although I knit and crochet I love this simple knit shawl tutorial for my next project...many thx.
what yarn did you use? and how much what weight what size needles?
Can you show a photo of the finished product? I followed your video and is in the process but I realised the triangle is really long and pointy.
anyone know the needle size? i couldnt tell if it was 5 or 5.5 mm
Super easy and beautiful. Thanks a lot 🙏
Love this I hope I can do it. Thank you
How do I end the triangle on the other side to finish?
Thank for your tutorial. LEARNing in MY ELDER YEARS. 😂
Me too. So relaxing.

Hi I was wondering every time I do this it’s starts to curl , would you be able to help me ? I don’t know how to stop it, thank you so much.
Hi, I am new to knitting, do I need to use circular needles or will my regular 14” needles work for this pattern?
Love these shawls
I'm going to give it a try when i get off today, thanks Jessica ❤
What size needles and yarn?
I am doing this pattern on a very long pair of circular needles. I yarn over at the beginning of each row then knit until the end. I am worried that the shawl will get so large I won't have any room left on my needles. Am I doing something wrong?
How wide will it be and how long
Is it normal for me to have these oddly large loops at the end of one side?
I have a question in the next drop row, I have to increase in any row
Excellent! I’m so happy I found your videos. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Do you have to use circular needles or will separated ones still work?
Parker Himley I know you asked this 2 months ago but I think as long as you have long enough knitting needles it should be ok with just straight. I prefer circular when making these projects so the stitches aren't all bunched together on straight needle and hard to work.
New to knitting. How do I decrease for the other corner and bind off?
Love this. Thank you so much. Blessings, Susan Fryman
why is there a drop stitch seen on one side and not another after doing a for of wrapping twice?
What size needles are you using?
Is there a right or wrong way to do a yarn over? I've been doing my yarn overs the same way you're doing in this video. I ask because I keep seeing yarn overs done in different ways so that it creates a hole in the work. Mine doesn't have any holes along the edge.
Emily C if its the same thing on every row the two sides are right sides.
I will try this!!!! Thank you!’😊
how many inches are the circular needles are they 24" or 16"
So I have a pattern and she said to use size 19 knitting needles and do two different yarns. It’s wool and acrylic yarn. I’m so nervous to even begin it.
J'aime beaucoup cette façon de faire merci
Hi how do you knit a triangle with intarsia?
How many stitches do you put on
Love the yarn too. What yarn is it? Looks light enough to wear here in Fla. Judy
It is a great one and light indeed! Shawl In A Ball from Lion Brand Yarn.
How many rows did you do?
Watching this I have inspiration on knitting but I'm in school and I have neither wires nor yarn 😖
What size needle
U are AWESOME !.. So happy I found U today. TFS stay BLESSED 🙏🏽❤️💃🏾
You don't have your blog info in your description box so I can get pattern. Thanks
I will add the blog link now! Thanks for the reminder. I published the video before I had the blog post live so I hadn't added it yet.
Why yarn over instead of knit front in back for adding stitches?
Genuinely curious as I’m very new to knitting.
How would this pattern work on straight needles? I tried doing it with straight needles & I ran out of room. Straight needles are all I have
What I’m going to try is making two smaller ones on 14 inch needles and stitch them together in the middle. I just do not at all like circular needles. 😂
That’s a great increase, thanks for sharing!
Спасибо за отличный мастер- класс!!!
How many stitches for a shawl
I loved it!
Love ur pattern and tutorial, thank u! I’m currently making this, and im new to knitting :) this very helpful . Did u block the finish shawl?
Yes, I did actually block it!
Beautiful and very nice instrucciones, thank you so much!
What's is the finished size?
