I have lived at the beach in Costa Rica for 22 years. I have a place in San Jose and I love hanging around downtown ☺️ I love to walk around downtown . People watching is good !
Yarbros, been there ,no army ,no military , a hidden .jewel, but I love " Carib, Barbados, Jamaica, Cuba ,many thanks.. you two lovely people X is it easy to " to move there " .when your my age lol 🤣 from shitty UK, 68...
I recently got back from spending 3 months in Costa Rica. I really enjoyed spending some time in San Jose, and it's so refreshing to see travelers showing it off. I have several friends there that I like to see whenever I visit. Plus my high rise condo Airbnb in Barrio Escalante was only like $40/night.
Amazing! Love how clean and organized it looks (for a central market). I was there and literally nobody asked me for money or anything like that. They also charged me fairly for things even through they knew I was a foreigner
April, I'm loving your style, traveling and looking tres chic! Very nice video guys, wonderful to see all your down to earth interactions with the locals. I did miss the nerdy facts a bit but maybe next video in Costa Rica? Looking forward to more Pura Vida!
These videos are great, thanks so much guys for putting attention to San Jose, as a Tico, I know our capital is not the best option to stay in CR for vacations but there are some especial places to visit and have a good time and experience how day to day life is in the capital.
I loved San Jose. Always love the markets too. I didn't listen to the people who said not to stay there. Glad I didn't. I used it as my home base while I was there and just took day trips. Loved it. The National Theater is amazing! Gorgeous interior. Check it out if you have not.
Yes, it's a cool city. We're enjoying its exploration and we're building our itinerary right now to go throughout the country....haven't gone into the theater yet but we are intrigued.
@@TheYarbros Lavish and exquisite are the words that come to mind for the theater . It’s lovely. Enjoy whatever you do! They have delightful waterfalls, butterfly gardens, volcanos, beaches. You can’t go wrong.
Goodness what a trip! This was an amazing video thank y'all for all you do, and for taking us along. Can never miss a video. ♡♡♡ Blessings and much love!
Loved the Intro!! 🔥 If you like the capital, then you’ll probably love Escazu (for a short term home base.) Hope you get to explore everything on your bucket list. There’s so much to do in Costa Rica, but the natural beauty of the entire country is unmatched. Not to mention, that the Nicoya Peninsula - is the only “blue zone” in Latin America… When you find the right area for you, the true essence of the Pura Vida spirit will ignite your soul and take your inner peace to another level. ~Many Blessings ☮️
San Jose, also colloquially known as "Chepe" to the locals, is a fun city, I love it. I spent Valentines day there with my wife in 2014 we had a great time. There are lots of good restaurants, markets, plenty of things to do. And from San Jose you can easily visit other places to get the beach experience, see volcanos, etc. The Yabros are on point as usual. As someone who's been there several times, I agree with their recommendation 100%!
Me and my wife spent 7 days in Costa Rica. The first five were in Jaco and we loved it. Even with COVID having everything shut down early. The last two days we spent in San Jose. We kicked ourselves for not spending more time there. We went to most of the places you guys have in your video, but the area that had the most impact on us was Avenida Central where every encounter with a local was amazing. We must have stood out because almost everyone we passed on our walk said "Bienvenida a Costa Rica" to us. Most offered places to visit and also some history. We loved it so much that our next trip will be exploratory to find out more about possibly either moving, or having a second home there. The stability and being demilitarized was big on us.
Don't you love that interaction? That's the best part about travel to us. The people here are super helpful and friendly. Exciting to hear you'll be returning. The fact they demilitarized the country was very interesting to learn about!
The USA protects Costa Rica Militarily. Costa Rica would be half Nicaragua half Panama of the Usa didn't protect it. Sometimes Nicaragua invades an area in CR that's been disputed for years. It rightfully should be nicaraguas. And every time the usa says go back home nicaragua. And they do.
Hi Guys I loved this video and your both so charming. I like walking around San Jose and I loved visiting Theatro National and the National Museum . I always stay two weeks in Jaco and from Jaco do day trips to Manuel Antonio , Nauyaca waterfalls , Poas Volcano , Arenal Volcano and hot springs and for a special place to watch the sunset and enjoy a delicious dinner I love visiting Villa Caletas not too far from Jaco. Oh I also love doing the crocodile tour on the Rio Tarcolas. One more thing I love doing in Jaco is hiking up Miro mountain, Cheers 🥂 🥂 and thank yo so much , Pura Vida 😅
Came to Costa in december didnt plan on staying in SJO , met someone from there whilst i was in la fortuna so gave it a try. loved it, currently back in costa rica and cant wait to hang out in sjo :) thanks for the video
Very cool video!!! I hope you guys had fun, I’m from Costa Rican living in the US and San Jose for me has been a nightmare since I was in college down there. I have seen some significant changes for the better, hopefully it will continue to improve with the rutas natu urbanas and other projects meant to make the city attractive for tourism.
At the minute 10 when the boys tell u to go to Uvita from the Caribbean is because there are 2 Uvita’s one at the Caribbean side and one at the south of CR which is were there are a lot of ex pats living there and enjoying the real wild life from the country. For me the south is the best part if you are looking for some quite time and full of nature.
I live in Heredia but go by bus to the Mercado Central in SJO to get my favorite: Sopa de Mariscos (seafood soup) that is just the best. I like San Jose for its walking area, various ethnic restaurants and museums. Hope you guys get to visit the Caribbean side of CR.

Global Citizens, you Yarboros are always at home from the moment that you hit the ground! Thanks for sharing your Tika Experience. I loved Liberia, Guanacaste & Coco Beach. I'd booked Jan Jose & Limon, but had to cancel, wish I were there to meetup & explore San Jose. Will your adventures include a visit to a Jaguar Reserve? You may want to stock up on locally made mosquito repellent from a Mercado Atesania. They're not cheap so I only purchased, one but when I got caught after dark with no repellant in Ghana I realized a backup bottle of that formula is Priceless. We were squeezing out few scant sprays...Muy Effectivo!
Thanks for showing one can stay 1 or 2 nights in San Jose and enjoy it during the day ! By the way, your lady was sporting a fine hairdo ! Very attractive !
San Jose wasn't my cup of tea. Might I suggest Puerto Viejo - Punta Uva area. Near the tip of Panama, on the Caribbean sea. The swimming is to die for. Slower pace - wonderful for biking, and hiking. Real Rasta vibes! There's even a spa. Walaba Hostel is AMAZING! Private rooms with private restroom/outdoor shower in the jungle...yet two blocks from the beach.. 7 hour bus ride from San Jose, but worth it.
I agree with sister Sherry. 💯 Puerto Viejo has the Rasta vibes, Caribbean colors, black history, Jamaican music, tropical scenery, bohemian shops, great food and love… nothing but love and good vibes! I fell in love with Cahuita National Park nearby - it is a completely untouched beach with free entrance.
I liked this video…been to Costa Rica several times and San Jose gets a bad rap…del Rey Hotel and Sportsman’s Lodge are in town and it is a walkable city …
If you do not have a lot of time after San Jose go to Manuel Antonio. It is the best beach on the pacific side of the country. White beach lush vegetation, just real nice. Then hop to the Atlantic side to the province of Limon, most people in San Jose would tell you not to go there because most black people live there, do not pay them any attention. It is the greenest part of the country, people are really nice and the lushness of the land is just incredible. RUclipsr "I am Marwa" was recently there and he had a great time in Limon city and Puerto Viejo also.
@@TheYarbros I’m a tico myself but it is hard to understand some of his words… I think he is saying something like “the hen may not be good for eating just yet. You should keep it for a while and fatten her up so you can get some “buen pollo” / good chicken ”

The one thing I didn't like about Costa Rica was how expensive it is, I felt it was overrated.
