    Bolt-on-neck Les Paul Juniors sometimes have a replacement neck with a round heel, while the LP Jr body can have a squarish pocket heel. I ran across this and the neck fit perfectly (outside curve of the heel touched the back of the body pocket) except that the rounded heel allowed the neck to shift in the pocket. So I taped a small straight popsicle stick section to the heel of the neck and super-glued in 2 * 1/8" short dowels that nearly filled the corners and made a new squarish neck heel. Then the neck has a squarish heel going into a square body pocket end. Tedious, yes.... but the neck can be reused someday in a rounded pocket LP Junior body after gently removing the super-glued small dowel sections...

    • @warmoth
      @warmoth  5 лет назад +4

      The thing with the Lonestar Strat (and a few others) is that it uses a neck that has 22 frets *with no overhanging fretboard end*. That's what takes it out of normal Fender spec. Original USA 2-3/16" specs requires a 21 fret neck with overhanging 22 fret. That little difference means that replacement necks will not intonate properly.

    Hey warmoth, I'm sure you might not read this but your products are just stunning. I recently decided to pull the trigger and make my wallet cry for a few months and splurge on top notch parts, electronics, and the best "fender replacement parts". The greatest feeling about having your product is that for the past few weeks, I can't stop staring at my guitar when I walk around my house. I had a Light Ash Korean made Fender Telecaster. I didn't like the neck so I ordered one from Warmoth. The screw holes were not aligned, so I had to deepen the pocket in the Tele body until they did. I took it slowly, 1mm at the time, with a Dremel tool. It went all good but one has to be careful not to go too far in depth as well as in width, in oder to keep the pocket tight and not create an inappropriate angle. I am very happy with the assembly, Warmoth build awesome necks. \m/

    • @ztevie.j
      @ztevie.j 2 года назад

      But, to primarily align the holes seems a bit risky? Who knows if the holes are drilled at the exact same spot on every body/neck?
      I would make the neck be placed at the correct measurements from the nut to the bridge and then have the holes drilled there. Can be huge intonation issues otherwise...?

    • @frantisca
      @frantisca 2 года назад

      @@ztevie.j In fact, the problems resulted from adapting a US neck to a Korean body. Asian made Fenders have different measurements than American made. I have assembled quite a few now and I can tell you that I did not have intonation issues. As long as you are ok with the width and height of the neck heel, the rest is only adjustments. Make sure to mark the neck heel with a small point going through the body holes while maintaining the assembly vertically.
      Also, before drilling if your neck has no pre-drilled holes, make a limit on the drill bit with masking tape, so that the holes won’t exceed 1,5 mm depth.

    • @warmoth
      @warmoth  2 года назад

      I can't comment on your guitar specifically, but the issue with the Lone Star/Big Apple strats isn't with the neck pocket or pickguard dimensions. Our necks will still fit into them. The problem is that the geometry of the neck pocket is non-standard and causes intonation issues with a standard neck.

    I’m wondering why Warmoth has a three bolt neck option but no option for a Squier 51 style or a Jazzmaster with WRHB.

    • @warmoth
      @warmoth  5 лет назад +1

      We get asked this a lot. "Why do you offer *this* arcane option, but not *that* arcane option?" It's a fair question, that deserves an honest answer. Sometimes it's because we thought there was going to be a huge demand for some new bridge or hardware - that it was the next big thing - and we guessed wrong. Then that thing ends up being an oddball option in our menu for ten years. Other times it's because some employee at some point got behind arcane option number one, and championed it through the R&D process (maybe because they wanted it for themselves), while no champion emerged for arcane options two and three. And other times, we develop arcane option number one because we know our market, and we get it right. Yay! Unfortunately, the one vocal customer demanding arcane option number two doesn't understand the market, and thinks the demand for it is just as big as number one....but it isn't. (Not saying that's what is happening here...but it does often happen.) Hope that sheds some light!

      Warmoth Guitar Products Thank you for the response. I’m all about the options Warmoth offers. I was just surprised that the “jazzblaster” option wasn’t a thing. I just see a lot of independent builders going that route. Thank you!

  • @j_freed
    @j_freed 5 лет назад

    When guys like Steve Moree put a old Tele caster neck on a Stratocaster body, I believe they just file and reshape the butt of the neck to match the more curved Stratocaster neck pocket shape.
    If the Tele neck is too valuable, you can reshape the body neck pocket instead but that has got to be may more of a pain. I think Dan Erlewine might have talked about this, that guy has done everything.

      Elites have those spoke-wheel truss rods, so that's a whole new ballgame....they do not follow Fender's USA vintage/original 2-3/16" spec.

      Exactly, or some good quality wood rasps and files. If you really want an ugly Tele headstock on your Stratocaster to be like Steve Morse back in the day (hey he just played the things, vintage Tele necks could be nice and chunky.)

    • @warmoth
