  • Heading north out of Adams, Massachusetts, we started our 3rd day of Lobster Quest, the Nitto JL/JT Experience presented by KMC Wheels by working our way into the state of Vermont. It was here that we really started to see the landscape covered in the amazing yellow, orange and red leaves that you can only find in New England and in the Fall. After making a well needed stop at Hogback Mountain, we continued our drive to the east, into the state of New Hampshire and until we reached our wheeling destination of the day, Field & Forest Recreation Area.
    Like most of the wheeling destinations back east, Field & Forest is privately owned and NOT open to the public. If anything, they consider themselves to be a "private campground, outdoor event facility and recreation area" that caters to large groups, events, members of the Northeast Association of 4WD Clubs and other organizations ONLY. They do have an extensive network of trails, most of which are challenging with tons of fun obstacles and many more intended for buggies only but they are viewed as being an amenity for those who've paid to utilize their property. With that said, the wheeling out there is outstanding and we all had a great time putting our Jeep JT Gladiators and JL Wrangler to the test on their wet, muddy and slippery rocks!
    We hope you've been enjoyed watching EVO, Synergy, Skyjacker, PSC, JKS, Tactical Off Road, Hi-Lift, all the participants and of course, yours truly taking on some of the fun trails the east coast has to offer. If you haven't done so already, Cindy and I would be grateful if you could please SUBSCRIBE to our RUclips channel!

    Dude in the Skyjacker rig looks like he is running too much air pressure. The driver in the Synergy rig knows what’s up. His tires were practically giving the rocks hugs.

    • @wayalife
      @wayalife  5 лет назад +6

      Yeah, he may have been running a bit too much air for the trail but more than anything, those tires weren't hooking up at all. Synergy was running their tires so low because they had less than 50% tread and were all terrains. Problem with going down too low is that you loose height/ground clearance as well.

      Totally agree...

    • @wayalife
      @wayalife  5 лет назад +3

    I live here in New Hampshire. Good old wet fall wheelin'. I haven't really wheeled in 18 years. I got here from the Jane project. You are in my backyard. We used to wheel this terrain with Jeeps in the 70's and 80's. Average tire size was 33 to 35. I ran Super Swamper Thornbirds at 8 psi we were all leaf sprung and locked or spooled. Glad you got to experience my home ground.

      So, we've been running Dynatrac for years and decided to give these Dana UD60 axles a test and I must say, so far, they've really impressed the hell out of me. It's one thing to "talk" about how strong an axle is and it's another to "show" how strong it is.

    It's a lot different then wheeling on the West Coast right. It's cool to see how other regions have to approach obstacles because of the terrain

    Pretty good tire comparison there. Hard to tell without being there I guess, but it sure looked like the Trail Grapplers are much better in the wet than those Patagonias.

    • @wayalife
      @wayalife  5 лет назад +1

      The Milestar Patagonia mud terrain tires were embarrassing to watch. They were absolutely horrible out on these trails and as you can clearly see, offered little to no traction what so ever. The Nitto Ridge Grapplers that a couple of the Jeeps were running such as Synergy did a MUCH better job of gripping and this in spite of the fact that they're all terrain tires.

    Funny thing about this video is you guys didn't even touch any if the hard trails lol these are all the easiest trails field and forest offers. Such a great place to wheel and the owners Bob and liza are amazing people.

      @@wayalife its impressive to see those jeeps go on those trails, this is my back yard, my club Rockaholics are there often and rent the campground out multiple times a year. If there is a good way to contact you I can let you know some dates for the year so we can extend an invite to you to join us with your bigger rig to explore some more of the property with us.

    do y’all check any of your suspension components after these runs? i know nothing about four wheeling, but i saw a couple of trucks nail their front ends or drop their rear diffs on rocks. like do the spotters let the drivers know “hey check out your front linkage.” been really enjoying these videos!

    • @wayalife
      @wayalife  5 лет назад

      Oh yeah, once we get to wherever it is we're staying for the night, most of us spend some time going over our rigs to do at least a visual inspection. As far as the axles go, the Dana UD60's have proven themselves to be really tough!

      We all felt bad for Skyjacker. In spite of having a Hellcat, their Milestar Patagonia tires wouldn't hook up for anything. Horrible mud terrain tire that offered little to no traction. The all terrain Ridge Grapplers that some of the Jeeps were running did a much better job.

    • @wayalife
      @wayalife  5 лет назад

      Nah. No need for Portals. Besides, the gear reduction on them is more than I'd want and you'd have speed sensor issues. Jeep tried playing around with it back on the Might FC concept build and it was a disappointment.

    The terrain reminds me of wheeling here in ohio. Tire choice and pressure becomes critical in my experience. After several tires, the cooper stt pro ended up working best for me.

    • @wayalife
      @wayalife  5 лет назад

      Yup, ran STT Pros for a few years and they are one of the best out there when it comes to hooking up on terrain like this. As you can see, the Milestar Patagonia tires were absolutely horrible.

    I have a ZR2 and that Gladiator is very impressive, what size tires? That's the big short coming on the ZR2, 31" stock and much work to get 35's to fit and 37's break shit.

    • @wayalife
      @wayalife  5 лет назад

      40" tires and with coilovers set at about 3" of lift. Could probably use more for break over angles but we kind of like the low stance.

    Honestly not surprised skyjackers rig was struggling Patagonia’s are phenomenal on dry rock and dry trails but mud they just cake up

    • @wayalife
      @wayalife  5 лет назад

      I guess we all have our own idea of what "phenomenal" is. There were 3 guys running Patagonia's on this trip and none were singing praises of any kind for them. Also, I think you need to watch the video again. For the most part, Skyjackers Patagonias were NOT caked up especially once he got his tires spinning. Also, he had just as much trouble when we were running Ma Bell and there was definitely no mud caked up in his tread ruclips.net/video/3U8zMl7byLM/видео.html . From what we could see, they just sucked and wouldn't hook up for anything. Of course, this is to say nothing about how poorly they balance, how badly they cup and how quickly they wear out. These are all things that the owners were complaining about.

    • @IamVexih
      @IamVexih 5 лет назад

      Wayalife Patagonia’s don’t do too bad in dry climate but once you get them wet that’s pretty much a wrap

    • @wayalife
      @wayalife  5 лет назад

      Like I said, none of the guys running Patagonias on this trip had ANYTHING good to say about them. Also, "don't do too bad" is a far cry from "phenomenal" or at least, in my opinion. For my purposes, I live in an area that's essentially a desert but does gets snow and ice in the winter and there's no way I'd want to run a set in those conditions.

  • @jeremy8715

    Would you consider the wheeling more difficult or similar to west of the Mississippi river??

    • @wayalife
      @wayalife  5 лет назад +1

      It's just different. Wheeling in the east, even small rocks can prove to be a real challenge being that they're so slick. For that, individual obstacles can be more difficult. While you do have more traction out west, the obstacles can be a lot bigger and with a lot more of them stretching for miles and miles. I think the odds of breaking something in the east is higher though and due to the amount of tire spin that is needed.

    Eddie and Cindy. I know you aren’t selling your stinger on your site anymore. My wife and I really want one. Is there anything you can do? Once we retired from the Navy we decided to take on the Jeep life and we have been loyal followers of your channel for 8 years. I am Gator20 on your forum. We are watching Lobsterquest (Lobsta) for the 1,000th time on RUclips tonight. Please tell me that there is a way we could get a Wayalife stinger for my wife’s 2023 Wrangler!

      We are happy to hear you enjoy our videos and hope to bring the stingers back. As I've mentioned in the past, the cost to have them made is just too high right now but we're hopeful that they'll come back down again and enough to start making them again.
