Otherwise, when damage through drift isn't an issue, why not combine stem injection and foliar spraying? That's what I did last fall, first I injected the bigger stems and then I sprayed the whole patch. I hoped combination of both techniques gives me a better outcome. Overall pesticide use still limited and everything died off nicely. Let's see how much regrowth I get in spring, though.

It especially might be useful for getting large stems in the middle of a patch that are hard to spray. To your question, yes, i think you are correct.
