It's time for another start to finish sculpting video! This time I am working on a thief girl with some help from Chelsea Gracei! This character was so much fun to work on, especially that gorgeous face, and it's all thanks to Chelsea's amazing work on her character. If for some reason you are watching this video first, make sure to hit pause, go watch her video, and then come back here to check out the translation to 3D. The hair on this character was a pretty interesting little puzzle. The flow of the hair was especially tough to get feeling right. But sculpting the face for this character was even more difficult. And because the face sculpt was so tough, I wanted to focus a little more in on the face in this video. Hopefully you all won't mind as I ramble on with some face sculpting tips :) If you have any cool concept art or characters you would like to see me sculpt in the future, let me know in the comments. I hope you enjoy the video and maybe learn something new along the way. Until the next one! dueces ✌️

WOW! It was SO cool to see your process and to see her really come to life! I feel like I've learned so much as a 2D artist just seeing how you explained various forms and shapes! Thanks so much for suggesting this collab! It's probably the most fun video I've ever worked on!! :)
I'm so glad you enjoyed the collab! I had a ton of fun working on your character and loved watching your process. Thank you so much Chelsea!
I loved seeing 2 of my favorite artists work together, I’d love to see y’all do this again some time
I really enjoy watching the process when 2D drawing and Sculpting.
I am thinking is that possible I could Join the collaboration too ?
I can Convert a sculpt model to part and 3D print plus post process(Painting). I will make video for it.
then the full process from 2D to 3D to physical.
to bring 3D sculpt model to live include multiple step. let me know what I should do to qualify the Collab.
The woman, the myth, the legend
I have a weird idea for a video. So dolls always have a 2D design for the character that goes along with the toy. But for some reason the dolls rarely look like the picture I've always thought that was weird and there are a lot of dolls that I like the drawing of but hate the dolls design. Can you make a 3D model of one of these dolls (for example Ever After High Dolls) I'm curious about how the dolls would look if they actually looked like their drawings.
This is one of the things that look easy but in fact are incredibly difficult. I tried character modelling in Blender for a while and I just couldn't make my modells look good. I'm switched to making models in "real life" with a 3d pen now, since I feel like that's a bit easier. Huge props to you for making this insane modells, you're so talented.
3D pens are fun! Would love to get one
@@Follygon They aren't even that expensive. You can't get the surfaces smooth though. That's something that bothered me in the beginning until I found out that people use wood burning tools to smooth them out (those aren't expensive either 🙈).
You have to spend countles hours studying anatomy and other sculpts and of course practice practice practice to actually get to the point he is right now. Just starting to sculpt in Blender and expecting it will be good is a bit naive.
You're right of cause. It's extremly difficult and involves a long process of trial and error. Do you have any tips on where and how to start?
@@taju3d374 There are lots of resources out there on anatomy drills, rules and tips for getting better quickly. It's often a few common problems people have that can be corrected to give their models, drawings etc. a more satisfying look. It's hard to verbalise the issues you see with art without having studied it when it comes to humanoid characters especially, you are basically training yourself to consciously recognise what you already recognise sub-consciously. If you do it daily, you'll get there!
I want to see you do a Bratz doll. I’m LIVING for your channel btw
Thanks Celestial! Great username btw
It was really fun watching your collab video.
Hey Follygon... been watching you for a while now... All your work is insanely incredible... I love your style and you execute all your models perfectly! Can't wait for the next video!!
Glad you like them Cameron!
Whew, for some reason those elbows had me worried for so long, but in the end (of course) they were just fine. I don't know why it was just the elbows, I'm used to seeing things like joints get all wacky after the pose is initially laid in!
Cool art by the way Chelsea.
First rule of sculpture. Break all the joints
What a GORGEOUS concept and 3D model!
I can totally picture her as the main character of a game.
Wish a could see her world and the creatures that inhabit it.
I enjoy watching these from start to finish and seeing the process
Man, it's always satisfying watching a pro at work. Thanks for sharing!
Hey hey! Sick work, as usual!
Everytime you upload a new time-lapse I take one of my 2D chars and introduce them to the world of 3D.
Hopefully I'll be 75% as good as you in a year, hah.
Thanks pkleaf!
You're something else. The whole process was just amazing to watch. Thank you.
Thanks Ishy, appreciate the kind words!
Its so satisfying seeing how in each step the sculpt gets better and better 🤯
The commentary and verbal instruction is very well done. I appreciate the thought process explanation, so we can know one way of thinking about a project. Thanks so much!
I found that there are many similarities between 2D and 3D art while watching this. Amazing work!
Absolutely, thanks!
This was great!! Such a great collaboration! Im pumped after watching this!! :D Good stuff! 👍
Nice! Thanks Gatz
DUDE the cylinder teeth thing was so helpful thanks,
ps I try to catch all your streams and I live them, I especially loved the sexy pose one it was so clean
Thanks Landino! Say hi next time you’re there. I keep an eye on chat
I’ve done sculpting- both on a computer and with actual clay. In both mediums, I never managed to create a human that didn’t look like death warmed over. (the trash wizard haunts my dreams. his bulging eyes. the fact I forgot pupils. his spindly hands. the fact that in a tree in the background there is an entirely naked version of him.)
This is really cool to watch! definitely something I could have used when I was still in those classes, haha
I get how you are having a hard time making the hair and the hands - how you both love and hate making them - for me it's everything esp since I don't even know how to do 3D yet lol. You did an awesome job transforming Chelsea's 2D character to 3D! Godlike!
This video made me cry in awe. Much respect to you because this is absolutely phenomenal!!
Another awesome sculpt, cant wait for the next video!
thanks Ray!
I like your obsession for details and accuracy. Really amazing character and modelling.
19:00 is he.... y’know

thought this was gonna be making fun of Follygon but then i clicked on the time stamp and,, i was surprised to sau the least lmfaoo
It took me a second. I-
BAHAHHAHAHAHA
It took me a while but finally I recognized her. It's Vin from mistborn!
It’s an original character
It was a lovely watch! You do good work!
Glad you enjoyed it!
@@Follygon very much, you inspire me to work with clay finally. I've always wanted to sculpt with it! Watching you work helps me think differently from 2D art
I’m new to Zbrush and your content helps to fuel my will to learn. Even though I have minimal knowledge in art and even less in sculpting, I’m gonna try my best. I just wanted to express my gratitude, so thank you!
Happy to help Joshua!
She makes such cute illustrations 😍
It's too good to see follygon grow, 100k strong. Love where it's going 👍🏻
Glad I found this channel I make characters and animation Id love to learn how to sculpt them and make them 3D
Your work is top notch as always
Thanks Scott! :D Hope you are doing well dude
You're so dope dude!!! I really admire your work and it's amazing that you share your process to all of us that still learning, you're the best!!!
Glad to help Chris!
Amazing....I can't breathe...😍
yay!! a poc character im excited
poc isnt an adjective, the term would be "character of color" :]
@@drid1824 okay ? so? my point still stands
@@erossore8500 its just important to know that difference. poc is an acronym.
@@drid1824 u must be fun at parties
@@erossore8500 im just trying to help lol. ask anyone
Like you videos a lot!!! Not only the skills but the lil tips u provide are really inspiring
Thanks Zhiying, I appreciate that!
wow that is just incredible, I have been scuplting characters too, but nothing like this. My issue is posing a sculpt and learning to make character mesh
Amazing video! I model exclusively with Blender on low poly meshes, but your work makes me want to try out Zbrush and sculpting. The high vertex count in sculpting always intimidated me, but you make it look like putty in your hands!
I'd love more ideas about how to sculpt eye lids. Like if you use different auto masking on your brush and what not. Even in the form of paid content it would be super awesome! (I ran into eye lid issues where I wasn't happy with the shaping of eye lids on my sculpt)
すごい!
I really enjoy watching your videos, and listening to your process! I like to make character models in Blender, but I've been using poly modeling. Even so, your process and tips on how to make the model flow well are still really helpful!
sugeiiiii lol
thanks Slappy!
This is so freaking cool
I wish I had time to learn 3D modelling! But well I can make a donut in blender... XD This is so satisfying! Wonderful work!
Making 1 model a day is good enough tho. Of course you will have to know how to use the tools an stuff
Hey Follygon.. is the bestttt
Wow you are just so good at this!
Thanks Edania!
If you wanted to add a better glow to the crystal, you should make the emission not quite as strong and put a glare node on in compositing.
I really looooove your work! Is sooooooo incredibly awesome!!!! 💛 🥰
ty Nadia!
This is amazing! You are so inspiring.
It’s amazing how you can take a 2d image and make it 3d
This character was soo nice 😍
Thanks Teariney!
super cool ....!!!
will you do some video about the new faecture of zbrush or the way you use them ??
I would like to talk about them more in the future but my main focus will always be on creating great characters first. If I can find a place to use the new features and talk about them more, I definitely will.
@@Follygon and what about sculpting a curly girl (I have doubts about curly hair XD)
@@uzumakikyubi Would love to!
@@Follygon THAKS !!!!! O.O
Your skill is inspiring.
You feel a bit like a 3D Sinix, hahah.
Good vids, good work :^)
Thank you for this video, very interesting and you're very talented. Quick question, was the glitch on your voice at min 24:25 on purpose because you were talking about the glitch on the software? lol
This is so cool!!!! How many hours did you need from start to finish?
💧 I heard edge extrusion and got a little excited there 💧
It’s very nice to finally have
Hi. I love her work. Ill work on her works too. Ill tag you and her when im finished. Ive picked one of her model and commented that ill be working on that and im glad to do so. Excited to be back on sculpting.
loved the process and the original design. all looks great! I just have a note on the video, I personally found a voiceover for 27 minutes to be exhausting, but I also don't want to watch this with no sound. consider mixing it up, comment on parts where it's essential and have some music on other parts.
This helped me a lot! Are you going to print it now? That would be really cool!
I can’t wait to try and do my 2d characters in 3d 😊❤️
Do you happen to do more collabs? 😳
*Talks about Zbrush crashing*
Him:enough glitches for nOw *audio glitches*
24:20 😭
im super curious as to wether you have a complete beginner/ recommened complete beginner guide to starting on zbrush as i am always inspired by the incredible quality of sculpts you do? thanks in advance
I do, it’s at the gumroad link in the description 💪
5 yrs ago i installed zbrush into my pc and since the animation industry in indonesia was stuck, i left it [zbrush] and still committed to 3ds max till now.
I love these videos!!
Thanks José!
Great work! I love how your worked out the hair! I'd love to see you do another realistic-like sculpt. Maybe collab with a non-youtuber artist?
Awesome!
This video made me want to do a 3d sculpture
oh dang, this is sick! as part of the preparation for swapping it over to blender, i imagine you have to do some retopology--about how long would you say that process takes? how much more difficult is it for the more difficult shapes like her hair?
I do ZRemesher, with polygroups. I don't retopo everything. The hair I decimated and displayed vertex color, which is much easier than retopologizing.
Hey! I love your work great job man 🔥🔥🔥 If possible could you make a video or maybe ad a file in the description about the hot keys you use on your tablet and pen. I’m new to using a digital pen and there aren’t many people sharing their settings :/
I wish you would sculpt pudge from dota 2 .
Ur art is amazing I'm a digital artist and I've done 3d modeling when I was 12 for school but I hated it since what programs do u reccomend for a begginer and what program do u reccomend? I'm cluelwss to this stuff but it looks so fun!!!
So accurate very
All those game devs...who are envious of his talent....well...what u can't...u can't...😂😂
Hey Follygon, you are my favorite 3D artist!) Are you can to sometime show for us how are you rendering final sculpt?)
Thanks Alexandr! It's something I have talked about in many past videos and I'm sure I will do so again in the future.
@@Follygon thnks!) will waiting
I hope this turns into a series 💕 loving it ....
when you said "enough glitches for now" my computer glitched
This is amazing!! How long did it take?
love your work! how much time it's take to make works like this?
I love making eyes i think thay are easy to make realy beautyful and deatailds

Thanks Livia!
Jesus christ you caught me at the end 😂
Hey follygon I really love your videosx and mostly the part where you transfer it to blender for a better render... Can you tell me how you do it please? I've suscribed and I'm hoping to see more of your fantastic sculptures!
I have a tutorial on my render process here follygon.gumroad.com/l/saliY
Dude I love your 2D to 3D sculpts! I honestly hope that we can work together, even though I'm not that big on YT.
Was it just me or when he said glitches the last time he made it sound glitched
22:20 nooouoouo it's not boring..
Hey. Ever tried doing a photorealistic sculpt?
How much time did this take you? It's realyl hard to estimate because of the speed-up.
Can you share the costumer brushed you used? Great vid btw
Costumer brush?
@@Follygon typo. meant custom brush...
Of course! All of my custom brushes are available at gumroad.com/Follygon as mentioned in the video 😁
Thank you so much for talking about the nose changing because when I looked at it, I was thinking the same thing about it not looking like a typical nose that a black person would have. Thank you for taking note of that because so many people miss it!! 😊😊
I need a digital sculpting teacher
Check out gumroad.com/Follygon 👍 I have courses and mentorship sessions there
So great 😊!
Thanks Stan!
why do you never using zspheres (or other kind of a sceleton) & skin modifier for posing?!
24:24 y'all heard that right
In a previous video you 3D printed a work, im curious to know do you 3D print all/most of your works or only save them for a selected few?
I print when I have time haha
@@Follygon fair enough :D
i got so fucking scared when you said i skipped to the end i didn't expect that
I'm coming for you llama
@@Follygon jfc don't do that it's too late for le to start paronoying lol
I'm learning how to model in blender and I am surprised you are able to color your model while sculpting it in Zbrush even though you didnt retopolgize the high poly
Polypaint, it's essentially vertex color. No textures required.
I have a dought.do you decide on pose before starting sculpting or after APose sculpt
can you make a video on render how take your textured model from zbrush to blender that would be helpful
Follygon: thank you for watching from the start to end
People who skipped just too see the results: *O*👄*O*
*Not gonna lie i'm one of those peoples*
1:05 if you're doing anime style, make the cylinder a lot more flat or else your character will look either like a fish or buck-toothed, i made this mistake >w
Do you have a gumroad or patreon where you sell these for animation practice or something?
OMG
