a interesting video showing all the buildings for many of the early TV shows and also movies. the Universal backlot was used a lot in those days and it's amazing how they dress the area up for a scene in a TV series or movie. so good that you normally wouldn't noticed at first but over time you do notice it.

Great job. Love the video! I’m one of those two that everyone tells that I have too much time on my hand because things that are not in place always jump out every time I watch a TV show or movie. I can spot a continuity error, wardrobe, error, etc, almost in an instant. As an example, I could blow the whole plot of back to the future 3. All the Doc and Marty had to do was go back to the mine where he originally placed the time machine and use it since it still had the original tires and gasoline in it. Remember, Doc had just buried it in the mine a few days after he arrived in 1895. All they had to do was swap the time circuits from the damage vehicle to the original, and then they wouldn’t of needed the train to push the car to 88 mph and the storyline involving Clara would not exist.

Great research. Exactillioso, in fact!... One little thing -- the shoplifter who "clinked" and was caught by Barney was played by an actress named Lurene Tuttle. You said Barney was dressing up like Grandma Walton to go undercover. Not sure if you were indicating that Ellen Corby played the shoplifter, but may people (myself included) long thought that was the Walton's Mountain matriarch stealing from Mr. Weaver's store. Though Ellen Corby was the car hustler, she was innocent of shoplifting.

Here's a interesting detail of the courthouse building. For a small building, it has three forms of heat. Cast iron hot water radiators can be seen in many locations throughout the building in many episodes. There is a gas space heater by cells in the episode where Gomer finds Andy passed out from a gas leak. Finally, the building has forced air heat from a furnace in the basement. Don Rickles makes a soot cloud when working on the furnace.

I was born in 1966. In 1970 my mom me and my two older brothers moved to 4204 van Buren st. Which is less then two blocks from where desilu studios was, it was already basically abandoned at that point , myself and my brothers and all the neighborhood kids would sneak in there on a daily basis and play for hours, just as long as we were home by the time street lights came on nobody cared , when I was 7 yrs old I fell from one of the props as we called them it was in the western town. Basically most every thing you see was just a front of a house or building with catwalks behind them for actors to appear like they where in a hotel room having a shootout. Or whatever the scene called for, I was basically three floors up running on basically a 2×6 plank that gave way from age and rot landed face first on a concrete slab, 2 1/2 months in the hospital year and a half in a wheelchair I shouldn't be here but by the grace of God, my older brother actually burnt that church down. He also burnt down the guard Tower from Hogan's heroes..10 year old pyro. They leveled the whole place shortly after that, I will say that Lucille Ball stepped up and paid all my hospital bills. I can tell you hours and hours of stories about the crazy s#+" that went on at 40 acres by a bunch of unsupervised hellions in the early 70's all our parents were working two jobs getting divorces partying, all us kids had a hell of a lot of fun in our backyard as we called it. I'm not very articulate when it comes to typing But if you got any questions hit me up. Be happy to reminisce.

Interesting goof is the year Andy and Barney graduated high school. In an early black-and-white episode, we’re told it’s 1945. But in, the color “Return of Barney” episode, its 1948. Both episodes were about high school reunions. Andy says during the series that he was in Europe during “the war,” but WWII effectively ended in Europe in May 1945. I guess Andy was just part of the occupation.
An oddity in those episodes is a character name, Sharon DeSpain. In the black-and-white episode, we learned that she was a love interest of Andy in high school. In the color episode, as the reunion is being planned, a bit character whispers to Andy that “Sharon DeSpain is coming.” Obviously a throwback to the first episode, it is an odd throwaway line, because Sharon never shows up in the later episode. Indeed, she’s not even mentioned in any but those two episodes. Yet, despite this attempted continuity, you still have the graduation date discontinuity.
One curiosity about the black-and-white episode is that it is made in a very cheap and chinsy way. Andy and Barney are the only two regular characters in it, and none of the usual sets are used. We only see the garage of the rooming house where Barney lived, and a small room with curtains used to give the impression that it’s a high school gymnasium for a reunion. There are a few bit parts and Sharon, who make appearances, but that’s it. It’s as if they needed an extra episode, but had no money to pay anybody.

    1. Gold truck episode where Gomer was putting gas in and got it all over Barney's feet. The next scene his pants are dry
    2. When Briscoe Darling was putting water into the truck. Said it took 7 hat fills, only took 4.
    3. When did Gomer suddenly become a mechanic? At first, he put in just gas and oil. Later on, he had people lined up at Andy's looking for repairs.
    4. What happened to the car Barney drove up in the runaway kid episode? Later on he buys his first one from the crooks.
    5. In a few episodes Barney is acting like he is on the phone with the receiver in hand and it rings. How can it still ring?
    6. When the kids pushed the patrol car in front of the fire plug. Impossible since it was an automatic transmission. They didn't move the selector and you would think you needed the key to unlock the mechanism.

Cars didn't have locking gear shifts until the late 1960's. Anyways, in the era of Andy Griffith, Fords had the ignition switch on the left side of the steering wheel on the instrument panel. As for the phone, perhaps he was faking making a call and had his fingers holding down the cradle buttons.

You didn’t mention that the Christmas card shown was printed “greetings from state prison”. Andy read it saying “merry Christmas” from state prison. Plus, in the Episode Ellie comes to town, in the drug store there is a pair of sunglasses missing one lens on the display board. Also a pair with no lenses at all.

Has anyone ever noticed that behind the front door of the sheriff's office keeps changing? There's a window. Then the window goes away, there's a heater. Then the heater goes away, then there's a door, and the door goes away, then the jail cells move closer to the front wall. It's kind of weird once you notice it.

    • @ericg4042

Yes and the jail cells had windows, impossible as Floyd's barber shop butts right up against that side of the jailhouse.

Really enjoyed. I have a long time Andy Griffith question. If you notice the gun rack in the court house, there is a thin piece of wood that swings into place to lock the guns in place. I think that all you would need to do is just reach over it and take a gun. Thoughts? My husband says, honey, it's not a documentary.

At 11:48 in the video when Batmans car is chasing, you see Andys police car over on the left side. Like they stopped the filming on one show to get a scene in on another show.

    • @tvcrazyman
      @tvcrazyman  11 месяцев назад

I thought that was Andy's car too, but some other commenters from a previous video said it was the wrong model, so I'm not sure about it now. Seems logical they would have Andy's car in Mayberry though, but then they filmed various shows in that spot.
