Wolf is truly just playing a different game.
It really can feel like a puzzle/game too! 😆
The gem is not that big. He compares it to the diameter of an orichalk in the book. If it is like a large dollar coin, of Wolfe's time when writing the books, then it should have a diameter of 38mm. That is still a very large sapphire, if you compare it to more typical diameters of sapphire gems.
