Luke, please take it easy. My husband had covid, thought it was a stomach bug, but he lost his sense of taste. A week and a half later, testing negative, he was sicker than he had ever been. Very weak, could not walk. He is 8 weeks out and still not 100 percent. Long haul syndrome is a thing and you need to take it easy and rest up.
Success with beavers is to situate them near a spot where running water is very audible... beavers will always dam up that source of water to form their lodges. This is what causes them to be nuisance creatures in most places as they have a knack of blocking up drainage culverts, etc. for that very reason. I love beavers, I am so hoping the introduction is a huge success. I would recommend watching the documentary, Leave It To Beavers.
I appreciate the way you always try to repurpose things at Mapperton. So important - economically, ecologically, and aesthetically very often. Knowing the fence posts or your new side table came from something like your mulberry trees would be very pleasing, I think.
I so love observing all the activity at Mapperton! Many thanks for sharing! May I just say, beavers are amazing engineers! They’ll know exactly what to do without human intervention. They are really specific about where they place their lodges. Be sure you really want beaver activity in your area. They can cause all sorts of environmental changes, some that you may not want.
Luke is right...Beavers like to create their own lodge..they are never going to live in the log structure. Certainly would be foreign to our Canadian beavers. Nice idea ..good luck with it.
Beavers love willow trees. They grow next to water. So best you plant willow shoots. Beaver dens always have their entrance under water so I doubt whether they will move in this hut.
The Beaver will do their own thing. Not sure they need a rec room but who knows - Scottish beaver may be different from ours in New England. The Vermont beaver will build a dam down to your pool. They work fast and are quite industrious.
Luke you are your family's blood link to The Aristocracy in England. Julie is proud to be a part of it as well. Rest, eat soups, casseroles and roasts on Sunday. Take care Luke you are important!
Beavers are a Canadian icon. Name suggestions are "Maple and Poutine". Another suggestion is installing a field cam so your viewers can watch the beavers 24/7. Could be very entertaining!
Being a real Canadian girl I've actually gone swimming in a lake with beaver. They stayed out of my way and I stayed out of theirs but I'd love to see Julie go swimming with some beavers once they arrive at Mapperton.
Luke, take care of yourself! I had a mild case but it caused me cardiac complications. I am now on 7 different meds; getting physiotherapy to strengthen my heart and body.
Something may make that tiny cabin a home, but I doubt it will be a beaver. Beavers tend to create their homes on the water's edge or in the middle of pond they created. Usually it has an underwater entrance. That is here in the US, don't know about British beavers. ❤
From what I understand, beavers build their lodges on waters edge….with the entrances under the water. I don’t think your “cabin in the woods” will attract them.
Giving you both "some love" from the Adirondack mountains in New York State! ❤❤❤❤. I just enjoy watching you both so much! 😁. Please don't push yourself -- you are too important to Julie, your children and your parents (and all of your viewers)!
Julie is hilarious with her airline attendant imitations, and galloping. I hope you’ll both take Covid seriously. The risks of long Covid and other complications are real. Also, being infected more than once isn’t unusual. Please be safe and well so you can continue to entertain us. I absolutely love what you’re doing with the rewilding on the estate. The Scottish Beaver’s new lodge will be fun to watch and see if they accept their 5 star accommodation. Ben and Luke are great together.
I'm sure you noticed that one of the RHS Chelsea Flower Show Gold Medal awards this year went to a Rewilding Garden. And it seems that most of the gardens have/had a loose, wilder feel rather than the traditional formal styling.
I was so glad to hear I had covid and my exhaustion wasn’t due to my age. Luke, listen to your body. You need rest right now to get over the virus. I hope you feel better soon! I love you, Julie and all your family. 😊
Well done doing the handstand on the rocks wearing Wellies!! Ben's plans for the beavers sound terrific. The beavers will love the 5 star log cabin! Put some fresh fish on their pillows and they'll be thrilled. Lander is very brave to climb that ladder!! Love from Vermont
With peace and love, have you guys researched beaver? They make their own lodge and they may not even like the spot you chose for them to live. I hope they do though 😊 I really enjoy your channel and this endeavor will be very interesting to watch. Good luck! (Saratoga county, NY)
I'm interested to know how you plan on containing the beavers. And, how much land is included in this area. At some point if they do start to mate and have offspring how do you intend to diversify the gene pool? What a wonderful and complex project. I do wish Ben had a little more background into beavers (unless he was joking about not knowing what they even looked like). Will he be staying or, will there be someone that oversees / manages the whole project (what a wonderful job that would be)? Lots and lots and lots of questions. Since the bluebells can't be picked per one of the recent episodes, will they be flooded? Then what happens? The wildflower meadow should be simply gorgeous. I'm sure you'll keep us up to date on this project and next spring and summer ought to be great fun. Thanks so much to all at Mapperton with you Julie and your parents to undertake this huge effort.
My opinion. Don’t build anything for the beavers, they will do it themselves. Tin roof not natural. However, I love the overall wildlife plan and look forward to seeing everything go back to a natural form. Very exciting.
Hope your feeling much better now Luke. We have Mulberry tress at the lake house a tree line of them from driveway to almost the lake. At the lake we always have a breeze or wind lol. The berries all over and everyone has purple feet from grass to beach 😆. I’m so glad our trees aren’t as big as the tree you have. 🇺🇸
I worked in a building with a tin roof and every time it rained the sound was deafening. I couldn’t help but think that it will become a very uncomfortable place, sound wise, when it rains. Perhaps you could put some branches or grass on it to cushion the noise …
I agree…..she makes it all about her sometimes. Julie, Your fame is because of your husband and his last name. Viscountess is your brand….which without him….is hmmmmm
@@barbarahand4312 well she is privileged, but obviously she also puts in a lot of work to maintain the brand herself while taking care of children and teaching yoga--so I'm not sure it's fair to say it's all her husband. Besides, that's a bit unrelated to my comment, which was just describing the type of interaction by them I find more aesthetically pleasing.
Luke, in the re-wilding areas will there be some nut trees? If so will you put in some semi-established trees to hurry the process along? I had expected there to be hazelnuts in some of the hedgerows, so far they haven't been mentioned.
Get well, Luke. I had Covid twice, very early on, was VERY sick, but ok now...sort of... Covid lingers for many, so hang in there. Thanks, both of you, for filming regardless of not feeling your best. Beautiful Mapperton, lush fields, so many opportunities to be creative. Love the pond idea🤗👍💕
Hope you feel better soon Luke. Well done Julie, you are both such inspiring people. We love all your interesting and entertaining videos. Best wishes Christina and Nick Findell.
Julie, you are so funny!Luke is trying to be serious and there you are doing handstands in a barley field in ur wellies😄 Whole Acre Wood sounds like something out of Winnie the Pooh, bluebells and all.The beavers can build their own dams instinctively. Just let them do their thing!!!

I have long haul syndrome. It is no joke. I still tire quickly whenever I clean my house. So I do as much as I can, rest, and repeat.
Canadian beavers are smart enough to build there own lodges !!!
Too funny NY.
I just love Luke and Julie their energy is infectious Julie very flexible there❤️😍👌
In America we have wild beavers. He will make his own lodge in the pond with a water entrance. 🦫

yes, beaver prefer to build their lodges in the water several feet from the shore with entrance underwater. Their is safe from predators.

Beavers enter their lodge under water! I don’t think they’ll use the cabin.
