  • Now that I have started to store my attachments on pallets, I need a practical way of moving them around on the property at the cottage. Our friends Kevin and Dave at Farmer Equipment Sales provided a simple, cost effective implement to solve the problem. My Kubota B2601 compact tractor has learned a new trick. Tune in to see what's new at the cabin. Cheers!
    Thanks again to Kevin and Dave for sponsoring our 10K Milestone Gift Contest! www.farmerequipmentsales.com

      Good morning Mike. Yes, for sure. Thanks for the advice. Got it from a few others too and now I use a chain and binder to keep the bucket edge from bending under heavy weights. Thanks again and take care!

    A couple of thoughts... First, put a ballast box, or the grader blade, on the back while you're using the forks. That'll stabilize things a bit. Second, curl your bucket up a bit more, if you can. That will take some of the stress off the bottom of the bucket and reduce the load on the hydraulics. If you are worried about the bottom of the bucket bending or twisting, get a quarter inch thick sheet of aluminium and place it in the bottom of the bucket before clamping the forks. It will spread the force without adding too much weight. You'll find lots of things to do with those forks, apart form handling pallets.

    Noticed that down the road you added the ratchet binder to keep the bucket from warping. When I first saw this attachment I was skeptical but if you keep the load weight about half of your limit you can get by. Good stuff GP. cheers.

    Excellent! The forks meet your needs, well. An advantage to having bolt-on forks is they require little-to-no storage space and are not too heavy. Great quality video as always, GP. Have a fine week and keep up the good work. Yep, spring is coming which means more chores (smile). Full-watch from H1.

    Yes..very nice camera work, GP...great demonstration! I have Titan clamp-on forks 1,500 pound rating. But I think I like yours better. As you mentioned, block provides better stability..and I love the longer, thick handles to turn the clamps. Great leverage and that makes a difference. I also just started collecting pallets for attachment storage. Thanks!

      @GPOutdoors  5 лет назад

      Good day Michael. Thanks - glad you enjoyed it. If you are lifting firewood, it sounds like you will need a full SSQA set of forks. I don't think the bucket will take that kind of weight. LOL. I thought about storing firewood on pallets. Let me know if you find it much easier and a better process using the pallets. I'd be interested in hearing how it is working for you. Cheers and all the best!

      @@GPOutdoors yeah weight could be an issue a cord of wet oak is easily over 5000 lbs so even with 1/4 cord it would be real easy to overload smaller loaders... and rear weight, as this is extending the weight even further forward then the normal bucket.

    Forks are a great thing to have. On the other hand, they can be hard to see from the tractor. If it was my video there would be alot of editing out foul words and lining up for the pallet until you get used to it. Thanks, and until the next one.

      Bill, I don't have factory forks, but I do have a home made set for the B2400 and I found the way for me to see adequately, I raise the loader and dump the forks as though you were dumping the bucket. Watch the fork tips and as you align with what you want to pick up drop the loader slowly and curl the forks back at the same time. Then pull forward as the loader/forks get near to the horizontal position, now aligned with the stuff you want to pick up. Of course there WAS the certain amount of the foul words spoken until the process was perfected !!! Now not so much. LOL Of course this works fine for my tractor/bucket/forks and your results may vary.... Now how's that for a disclaimer. See, I was too tight to even buy the ones GP is reviewing here....

    • @GPOutdoors
      @GPOutdoors  5 лет назад +1

      LOL Guys. Yes, Bill it was hard to see the ends of the forks so I drove slowly into the pallets and watched form the sides. Hopefully at some point I will be able to try out a full set of SSQA forks. I thin these are good for very small loads and an infrequent need for forks but if I had a regular need for them and bigger loads to move, I think it would be best to get a full pallet fork attachment. Thanks gents and all the best!

    Hi GP! I like your clamp on pallet forks! They are really handy. I started out with clamp ons even though I have a QA bucket because I was sure how much I would use them so I didn’t want to invest much to begin with. Turned out I used the a LOT, so I eventually bought a QA set of pallet forks which are VERY convenient! Love your cool camera angles! BTW, you can wrap a chain around the middle of your bucket and use a load binder to snug it up to give your bucket extra support. Enjoy your new pallet forks! Cheers!

      Good morning DIY! Thanks for the advice and suggestions. I am not sure what a load binder is but perhaps if it makes sense to you, you could do a video on how to use clamp on forks and show how you use those to help support the bucket, Just an idea. All the best Martin!

    • @DIYMyWay
      @DIYMyWay 5 лет назад

      Good morning GP! Actually I was planning to do a video like that while I still have the clamp ons. I promised to give them to a friend but want to make a video on the the pros and cons of clamp ons before I do. Load binders are the ratcheting things you see truckers use with chains to tighten down loads on flat bed trailers. You’d use them with chains to tie down your tractor to a trailer if you were going to transport it. You’ll see me use the load binders on the clamp on pallet fork video. I use one for each pallet fork for heavy loads. Cheers!

    Good Morning sir....brought my coffee along and you moved all the items before it even got cold !! Either you're becoming a good operator or those clamp on forks are a good addition OR.... maybe both. I think you're reasoning for your purchase of this version is quite solid. If you were in a situation where they were under continuous use, the SSQA would probably be the better choice. An individuals actual use of the item should always weigh heavily on deciding on the money to be spent. I've never had a pair of these, but you highlighted the benefits in your typically perfect fashion. Good ol' Kevin and Dave come through again !!

    I've got a set (another name brand) and you're absolutely correct Gord, beats the heck out of grabbing chains and getting on and off the tractor to hook up and move attachments. You'll be surprised at how much you'll leave them on the tractor. Good for moving lumber and tree limb/brush piles too when you don't want to necessarily have to change implements just to do a quick job.👍☺

    When I purchased my new Kubota mx5200 pallet forks was a must have thing ($800). I’m in the woods and they come in very handy. Almost broke the bucket on my John Deere 4410 with clamp on forks + lost lots of lifting power, hard to judge picking up things with the bucket blocking my view. Spring has arrived in northern Virginia, we are having another sunny and above 70F day.

    I had these but ended up started to bend the bottom of my bucket. I went to Titan products and bought the quick hitch steel plate, (fits on Kubota), about 100 bucks, and welded the forks with gussets and brackets to the plate. Way better , way stronger and easy to hook/ unhook with the quick release. Love the channel.

    Yeah I'd go the extra money and get the pallet forks. These have a huge blind spot made by the bucket. Plus the weight is that much farther out past the pivot pins. You almost need an extra set of eyes guiding you into the pallets. Just not my favorite place to save a few bucks. But great video as always.

    I think pallet forks are indispensable. I run a small Bobcat at my work and we move lots of equipment and material using the pallet forks. Here at the hacienda, I have a neighbor who has a set of SSQA pallet forks for his tractor and I have borrowed them from time to time to move brush piles, railroad ties, old fencing, etc…they work great! So a set of SSQA pallets forks is on my list of additions for my tractor:)

    Real handy for sure. For moving things around like you are doing here, you should be OK. With the center of gravity extending beyond the bucket, this would explain the tipsy topsy effect. I don't have a grappler & I may go with a full size set of forks with the quick attach for my 990 JD. This way I can load up 15 or 20 ft. lengths of trees & bring them out for processing. This will be my poor man's version of a grappler. I don't have the extra hyd. hookups for a grappler either as this would require a Fesse valve & a electronic switch on the bucket control lever.
    Excellent presentation here GP as you found a practical, affordable way to move things around the yard...

    Had to drive a fork lift at work and I loved it . Lots of power and easy to see the skid . Those forks are great in a pinch but are they hard to see the holes on the skid . Great for light things but I would be afraid of bending the bucket . Would hate to have to spend the money to replace a bucket . I'm sure those forks are good enough for many people but I myself would save the money and get the quick attach forks . You never know if you might have to load or unload something heavy . For my piece of mind I'd get the quick attach . No giveaway question today Gord . Maybe I missed something . Had paper and pen ready to go . Take care .

    I've got a set of forks for my Kubota and they're very handy. Definitely be careful to not put too much weight on them as I've already bent my bucket. Also make sure you have ballast. While loading up the forks with logs last summer the back end came right off the ground. Luckily I was standing right next to it and lowered the bucket which dropped the back tires back to the ground. I've got a B2320 so slightly smaller than yours.

    I looked at clamp on forks but couldn't justify the price so i decided to make my own with materials I had here . They are somewhat similar to these although I used a smaller bolt at the rear. As crude as mine look they work surprisingly well and will pick up way more than I should. Main trouble with the clamp on forks is you can't see them because of the bucket. I have lots of experience with forks as would anyone who has farmed. Lots of experience gathering, stacking and loading apple bins. Perhaps I will get around to finishing and painting over the rust and do a video :) I have an afternoon in them using materials I had so a lot cheaper than any I could purchase. I too worried about clamping to the bucket edge.

Cheers and have a great weekend!

    Great video. I know what you mean about worrying about your bucket. If you wanted to distribute the weight between the top and bottom edges of the bucket you could drill a hole in each edge and run a chain with a turn-buckle between the two edges. You may also want to include a piece of reinforcing steel on the top and bottom sides of the bucket. Then the only limiting factor would be your hydraulic capacity.
    Michael from Alberta

    • @GPOutdoors
      @GPOutdoors  5 лет назад

      Good morning Michael and thanks for the advice. A few other folks suggested similar means of distributing the weight which I think makes a lot of sense. I could not get any specs on how much weight the bottom would take so I think using a means to distribute or support the weight is a great idea. Hope all is well in the west. Cheers and enjoy the weekend!

    I went with "full on" pallet forks, it assists with providing better visibility when maneuvering, not at risk of bending the bucket and if I decide to sell them, my guess is that they will have a good residual value. But I can see why you are interested in the "attach to bucket" forks. Cheers!

    Just noticed your propane storage. Two, 1000gal tanks gives you about 1600 gallons of storage capacity. Pretty sure that will last all winter. Must be tough getting a delivery truck down your road. Nice, neat installation. 👍

      Good morning TD. LOL. You know your stuff. That is exactly why they offered to install the second tank a few years back. Had a hard time getting in through the forest two winters in a row. Great guys though - they wouldn't give up and they got in but it was a lot of trouble, so now we don't have to worry. Have a great weekend!

    Gary I am going to make a set of forks like that, I have the material to do so. Forks are a great addition. I see you still have snow , we lost ours
    last week. Snowblower off snow blade off chains off my Kubota and I will be able to plant the peas and potatoes in a couple of weeks. it is spring now in the valleys of southeast BC we even have the pussy willows out and the tulips are poking through , and there is life in the grass.

    Your use here is very sound. However because you have a grapple, you will not be tempted to overload or abuse. Those without a grapple may be better served with quick attach forks to prevent damage to bucket or frame from overload.

      Good morning RC. That's a good idea I think. I could set something up in the right side of the shed. I am saving to eventually build a garage because otherwise I can only extend the shed out into the front of the cabin area. So I will hang in there until I can build the garage. Hi GP I took your advice and bought the L2501. I need a set of pallet forks I do not know if the clamp ones will work for me. I am by myself alot. I like the idea of storage on them. I am leaning towards the quick attach. Are you still happy with yours? Regards

    • @GPOutdoors
      @GPOutdoors  4 года назад +1

      Hey congratulations Lee! Awesome. I'll bet you can't wait to see it pulling in your driveway. For me, the clamp on forks work ok - I don't use them alot so it makes sense for me. However, you can't see them once you start to drop the bucket so it is difficult to use them sometimes. Also, you may have noticed I am using a chain and binder setup to support the lower bucket floor to stop it from possibly getting warped under the weight. If I were to start using them regularly or more often, I would definitely get a proper quick attach set. I would be able to properly manage heavy weight and also I would be able to see the forks. I think for the extra you may have to pay, a full QA set would do the trick, especially if you are often working alone. Hope that helps. Let me know how it goes from time to time, and be safe out there! Cheers!

  • @tomkeating65

    I don't know where you're going to store all these attachments, but I'd line them up some how side by side and chain them all together. This would alleviate theft. Just my 2 cents. Have a good day! 😎😎🤔🤔🤔

    GP. Hoping you can share some of your opinion on tractor shopping and why you chose to buy the B2650 instead of the L2501. Thanks!

    • @GPOutdoors
      @GPOutdoors  5 лет назад +1

      Good morning HA. Thanks for the question. After I did my research, including visits to several different brand dealerships, I thought I would need a 2501 (I spent time visiting dealers and comparing specs etc). At the time, the 2501 was several thousand $$ more than the 2601. My dealer (that I eventually chose to buy from) explained to me that based on the needs and size of property, and things I told him I needed a tractor to do, he told me that the 2501 was too much tractor and that the smaller B would be best suited for me. I was a little leery at first to be honest, but I chose to trust him (they have been selling tractors since the early 1970's). It's not often that someone foregoes a bigger sale. The owner actually delivered the unit to me personally and walked around the property with me and confirmed to me that he was still of the opinion that the 2601 would do the job. He was right. If I had a bigger property, then the 2501 would have been the right choice I think. There have been a few times that the B was not able to what I needed but 99% of the time, it has. So I am 100% happy to date with it. But keep in mind, I do have a small property (about 4 acres). I saw that the 2501 was on sale recently for less than the cost of a B but not sure if that sale is still going. If it had been cheaper at the time, I most likely would have bought it instead. I hope that helps a bit. Happy to answer any other questions you have. Cheers!

      @HometownAcres 5 лет назад

      GP Outdoors Yes it definitely answers my question. We just bought 44 acres and am looking to purchase our first tractor. I like all the deluxe features you get in the B series tractors, but I like the size of the frame on the L series. They’re a little less comfortable. I wish kubota had an L series that had the luxuries of the B series like a flat floor deck, deck mat, fender mounted loader control etc. thank you very much for the detailed explanation. Once I get a tractor I’d love to do some sort of collaboration with your channel!

    • @GPOutdoors
      @GPOutdoors  5 лет назад

      Glad if it is helpful HA. Congrats on the new property. You must be pretty excited. I am not an expert or anything but you may wish to look at the 3301 or 3901, or similar size of another brand. They are heavier (which is very important) and of course can manage bigger capacities. And I think you can get them with more features. The B series may not have enough power and capacity. I am pretty happy it worked out for me on this smaller property, but I would just hate for you to buy something that did not give you the power, weight and capacity you need for such a big property. Good luck and would love to hear how it turns out. Currently I don't do much collaboration with other channels formally but perhaps something to consider sometime down the road. Cheers and all the best!

    You posted this video last April I believe. Are you still happy with the forks?

    • @GPOutdoors
      @GPOutdoors  4 года назад +2

      Good morning Mark. That's a great question. I am going to give them back and get a set of full QA forks this year. Quick story: I never wanted a set because I didn't think I really had much of a need for forks. So when Dave at Farmer's put them into my pickup truck one day, I told him I really didn't have a need for them. He said, then just leave them in your shed in case you ever do. After a year now, I have used them so many times that I need a full set. The clamp-ons are great if you have an occasional need for forks. They work great, but because they are on the bucket, you can't see the forks once you curl the bucket down. Plus you are carrying the weight out further from the FEL pins. Not a big problem if you only use them once in a while. But with a regular need for them, I think its best to have a full set - this way I will be able to see the forks when using them and will be able to hold the weight closer to the FEL pins. I am pretty surprised at how often I have found a useful purpose for them. Hope that answers the question. Good luck and thanks !

      @@GPOutdoors I'm thinking that you will run out of lift before you can damage your bucket. The load is way out in front of your pivot pins therefore it greatly reduces your lift capacity.

    Just curious, does your bota have a bucket indicator? If so, when your forks are flat before you pull into a pallet, does the indicator help? I have a SSQA fork setup. Takes some learning to see how the tractor reacts to different load weights. Definitely good ballast on the 3pt makes things a bit safer. Another great video!

    Clamp on forks stink. The bucket isn’t strong enough to handle the lifting force on the end of the tips. Skid steer buckets are much better suited.

      Good day Mike. Thanks for the feedback. A full set of forks would be great I think but I thought these were pretty good for small loads and simple uses.
