    "delta" in math means "difference". So the plugin is playing the difference between the input and the output, ie the bit that it is removing.

    • @bananermat3798
      @bananermat3798 2 года назад +22

      And I believe the delta in audio is usually produced by flipping the phase between two sources, leaving only the phase difference. Might be wrong or over-simplifying it.

      I use Soothe on individual tracks and Gullfoss on the mix bus/master. They’re both amazing tools but for me have very different sounds for different purposes.

    One way I like to conceptualize the hunt for those 5% improvements is to frame it as the search for all of the problems that each take 5% away from what the song could be. The difference is just semantic in a sense, but framing the editing/mixing/mastering process as removing problems rather than adding more details helps keep that step in focus for me.

      RX9 is godly. I use the music rebalance for a live recording i did that i started to mix and realized the vocal mic picked up the acoustic guitar as loud as the vocals. i could have just used that one mic, but instead decided to use the RX9 rebalance to separate the vocal from the guitar to process and treated it like it's own mic. so i had the acoustic guitar mic, the 'vocal' mic, and the 'room' mic. turned out sounding incredible. also the de-noise plugins and dialog isolate are god tier time savers. esp guitar de-noise. I worked in post production at one point and dropped the cash for the advanced version, best money i ever spent. I suggest to everyone i know (who are musicians, podcasters, twitch streamers, etc) to at least get the elements version.

      It's not a tin foil hat. It's project's not opening at a lice set or on the road where WiFi is spotty. It's having to buy USB dongles and hubs as workarounds. It's crashing projects when ilok servers are down and it's trying to connect to them. It's jumping through hoops to use something you paid for.
      And considering people srill use pirated versions of some of these plugins means that ilok is basically selling snake oil to these developers and the recoup for the cost of "protecting" the IP gets pushed onto the consumer.
      Also, ticketmaster is an industry standard, if that says anything about the value of that tag line.

I understand that this is your job, but I'd find it easier to trust if you would also discuss cheaper/free alternatives or workarounds using stock plugins that you would apply to the same mixing situation.That would probably make the videos longer, but it would also provide more value to your audience instead of predominantly functioning to encourage sales of a product. I've considered purchasing Soothe before this video, looked at it last week actually, but held off because it seems pretty hyped. Understanding how it works under the hood, and what it takes to apply those effects with other plugins, would enable your viewers to make a more informed decision about what these products are actually worth.

    When you use sidechain on soothe, is it basically the same as using trackspacer?

    • @Armadillo312
      @Armadillo312 2 года назад +4

      Yes, but Soothe can be much more precise as it has several individual bands, and various features to change resonance suppression.

    Great overview! Thanks for the tips. Have been experimenting with the side chain on all sorts of things, and also really love it on kick/bass relation. Word of caution to only use what you’re really needing - otherwise the “life” of the sound may degrade and fall more flat.

      Instead of soother you could try a multiband compressor, as I reckon a wider band probably would help to make things punchier.

    Example:
    1. I wanna reduce harsh frequencies of my Guitar recording
    2. I wanna sidechain soothe to my Vocals to lift the presence of my vocal.
    Question:
    Do i have to put soothe2
    2 times on the guitar track?
    Thank you!
    Great video by the way

    The amazing thing is Au5 actually showed how Soothe 2 can used as a frequency mask by using the sidechain method which can lead to some cool sound design.

    Y'alls go ahead and soothe though. I don’t want to tell anyone else how to make art.

    HEY ANDREW! thanks for the vid. I have soothe and it's great but I've been wondering if there is anywhere that gives information on what all of the presets do. They have weird names like "take grandma to the coffee shop" is there info out that that goes through and explains each preset and the purpose for the preset?

    As soon as you said "you don't have to have that ducking" I added this to my shopping list. Pretty impressive! I have an annoying nasal click when I record my speaking voice, around 4kHz - do you think it would remove that? the problem is that it's a very brief sound, so I guess it would need a super fast attack and release?

    Sorry, but the sidechain chapter is absolutely misleading if you're talking about using your voice as a sidechain in Soothe 2 for any instrument (it doesn't matter). Using your voice as a sidechain will only duck the harsh sounds of the chosen instruments and won't address the important frequencies that make the vocal stand out. Soothe 2 is a plugin designed to find and reduce only the harsh frequencies within the selected instrument or vocal. When used with vocals as a sidechain, it essentially does the same thing, reacting only when your voice is played, but still neglects the reduction of important frequencies that enhance the vocal's presence.
    If you want to reduce the important frequencies using sidechain, you can achieve this with any regular equalizer that has the sidechain option available.
