- I wanted to do this to remind you all of what makeup actually looks like. Yes makeup can look flawless and beautiful but it will always look like makeup. Even with the lightest coverage foundations, it still looks like something is on your skin. Know that you are wearing it to be creative, enhance and don't lose sight of what is real.

Yes!! Everytime I see a make-up artist do their nice and flawless makeup I get disappointed because I can't make it look like that... Well! Now I know what's it is to be real!
agreeed
True!!! It really is high time! I don’t even watch makeup tutorials anymore they are all the same now ....almost tooo perfect. It’s not relatable I’d rather not watch than watch and continuously feel like you’re not leveling up enough
@Ysabelle Chanel aww thank you very much! 💋💋
I recommend Haley Kim she does her videos this way.
When i'm doing a make up i always thought i have bad skin texture and I was bad at blending. I'm always obsessed to have skin with no pores, no texture but from this I learned "skin texture is fine". Thx for show me your real skin and how makeup actually look in real life ❤️❤️❤️
I second this! I always thought I am doing something wrong in application or my products are not right etc.. this video was so refreshing and just kind of put me at ease! Thank you Jessica!
@Kathe • also, foundation looks like skin on people with flawless skin. When my skin was perfectly clear my makeup looked airbrushed. Now that I have acne and othe problems it does look cakey.
@Kathe • This still depends on how far away you're standing from that person, and in what light. Even people with perfect skin and airbrushed look will have visible signs of makeup when they're outside in daylight, and after having their makeup on for some time. This because no matter how hydrated your skin is and whatever primer you use, you will create lines by laughing, talking, eating etc and pigment will shift because of those expression lines.
Unless you mean the makeup looks like her second skin right after application?
That's why people spackle on the primer and putty primers but then it looks waxy and fake.
@Kathe • thanks for the tips!
especially in kpop, I'm sick with the fans saying idols have clear skin, no pores, no dark circle. that's bcos you see them with filters on even tho they have no makeup. we clearly know how they work, some days they will have bad skins. but of course their image is priority. but i just wish the fans can be a bit realistic when it comes to this
They dont
You can search Unedited images of idols
Like Taehyung
You will see they have acne, scars, blemishes, facial hair pores
Same goes for female idols
They have blemishes,dark circles too
Buy yes there are some idols who have a real smooth skin
Even their unedited pictures looks like they have makeup on
Fr and the fact they're kpop IDOLS. They're our idols. We want to be like them. But we fail to realise sometimes its not them. Some idols do have clear ass skin, though. But no one is poreless.
@@hopeworldian1112 yeah, they don't have to be idols to have smooth skin because of genetics. I know youtubers who get asked how do they look so young, how do you not have acne, etc etc. And they always say they're grateful but it's always just been that way and they don't do anything much (=it's genetics). But for sure, not many people have that, and it's high time we aknowledged that (and be okay with it)
Keep in mind that they probably have a very strict diet and routine to follow. There are a lot of things that they did in order to have clear skin, it could be that they sleep early, drink lots of water, don't intake too much sugar or fat contents etc. Anddd not to mention they have high-quality skincare product, I presume. So it makes total sense that some or most of them have perfect skins.

Hey there!
For context, I am a high end retoucher, and I stare at well known celebrities' skin up close all day every day. I just wanted to say that you have great skin. Seriously, you do. You may have some issues with it, but overall, your skin is better than most of the people that people compare themselves to. Your texture is very nice and even, the discoloration is fairly mild, the overall color is very pleasant.
And this is true in general, women in particular just tend to examine their skin from wayyyy too close. This is for all of you girls out there: your skin is great! It is NORMAL.
If you mind me asking, which celebrities do you do?
Thank you for this 🥲 such a helpful reminder.
@@marisol6809 Sorry I just saw your question. The list is pretty extensive, but I can list a couple. Miley, Megan Thee Stallion, Lady Gaga, Kim, Kylie, Tinashe, Lil Nas, Paris Hilton, drag queens, Shawn Mendes, Camila Cabello, Pamela Anderson, Maisie Williams, etc.
Repeat after me: Skin should look real! Nothing about texture is ugly! There is no blur/smooth effect in reality!

Since we r so used to good lighting, i was overwhelmed by my little bumps and texture. I always loved your skin, so thats weird. Like why is my imperfection good on others in my own eyes.
that’s not ur imperfection luv, i promise 💗
i think it’s because we notice our own flaws more than other people do so those imperfections are just naturally emphasized in our head which makes it more noticeable for us than it is to others
@@chupapimunyanyo6863 yes you are absolutely right ✅

i couldn’t really focus bcs i was enchanted by your eyes🥺
Yes, I love that hazel-y brown color.
Listen to what she was saying instead. I’m tired of seeing these kinds of comments on every woman’s RUclips channel. People who just completely ignore all the important stuff she talked about and starts talking about how they don’t care about it because she looks good annoys me.
@@molly702 Yeah, she's sending a very important message about how even makeup never looks "perfect" because its not our real skin and that we compare our own looks to others because we percieve their perfection.
Even still, she was pretty, and we meant nothing harmful by it. People are so much more than their looks, after all.

The whole idea of make up is to enhance what you already have and not try to emulate what everybody is doing. We're so into achieving the perfection that we're no longer comfortable in our own skin.
We need more of such positive and real talking people out there💓
@SciFiIlike we've all been through that at some point of our life and I know it sucks!
As a 43 year old woman who grew up without Facebook Snapchat Instagram or even mobiles as a teen I had a great time growing up without the pressure there is now this video should be shown in every school in the world
We still had Fashion Magazines and other media showing "perfection"....barbie dolls...etc. Unrealistic images of "beauty".
@@nicolef2496 I know when in reality those people are just like us they just happen to have great lighting and good make up
Thank you for this video. It helped me a lot considering I always saw texture on my skin whenever I put on make up. I thought something was wrong with my skin because it was not a “clear smooth base” that beauty gurus like to perpetuate with filters (which I found out recently). It’s time we bring back the way skin actually looks. ❤️
Yessss😭
That happened to me when I applied makeup yesterday. I don’t apply it and I suddenly did yesterday and was surprised at how powdery and cakey it looks
@@elithluxe7568 same. Less is definitely more.
@@ella4175 I was wondering if it looked that way because I used powder highlighter and blush. It settled in my pores on my left cheek where I have some active hormonal acne. I wonder if cream products look better in general
@@elithluxe7568 creams do look better in my opinion especially if you have really dry skin like me. But, when I had acne nothing really looked good because of the texture. I would prioritize clearing your acne before putting on make up because make up makes your skin worse.
This video was giving me so much anxiety, but it made me realize that it’s because I’m so used to seeing people with filters, that I expect “perfect skin” but in reality if people were more REAL, then we wouldn’t be so afraid of seeing natural skin.
more people should talk about it absolutely great message 🥰! People are way too scared to show their real skin but why are u scared? We all have our blemishes we all are beautiful! we should learn to love ourselves !
Thank you for not referring to your skin as “bad” in this video, I know it’s all relative but it’s refreshing to see someone just appreciate the skin that they have. It matters so much how we talk about ourselves on social media
*EXAMPLE OF A PERFECT MAKEUP TUTORIAL WITH NO ERROR*
OMG Thank you, for years I thought I'm doing something wrong or my skin is just in such a bad shape that I look even worse with makeup than without because I was able to see it in the mirror. But, like, you look stunning in both videos and it is really a matter of lightning and angles. Thank you for showing me that both videos are real and beautiful ❤
This was honestly so refreshing, too many makeup tutorials are hiding reality with over exposing the picture or using filters
I feel a lot more relieved about my skin and makeup techniques now !
I always use baby powder instead of foundation ever since. That's because I'm embarrassed of my pores. Yesterday, I had to go outside but I misplaced my baby powder so I used foundation instead. Blush, eyebrows, liptint as usual. I was like "Im wearing mask anyway." So I met my bf and we ate and took off my mask. I don't want him to look at me but what he said made my cry. He said I look good. He said "I don't understand why you're so insecure when you look so beautiful and skin will never be perfect. I don't like how perfectionist you are. It hurts me too" 😭
hes so niceee
This video made me realize how bad my grocery store foundation is, I feel a lot more confident knowing that makeup shouldn't look as cake-y as mine does
I love how real you are. 🙏🏽❤️❤️❤️ always appreciated!
i personal don't wear make up, like 1s a year at most, but i sometimes feel like doing a make up look. i'm thankful i've been lead to your channel where you simplify makeup and frequently you talk about makeup not improving people or fulfilling us. so wholesome and lovely, the message of acceptance and fun, rather than damage from comparison.
articulated so eloquently! i have so much respect and gratitude for what you put out, you're such a healthy force without all the toxic positivity that influencers oftentimes substitute for a realistic mindset
Made me sub! For someone fighting acne, huge oily pores, blackheads, acne scare for 3/4 of my life this is really reassuring :) and inspiring to stop comparing :)

Dear Jessica, I just want you to know that I have always been an insecure teenager about a lot of things but especially with my skin. However, when I see other people who have good skin online or people in person but from afar, I always comfort myself by telling that I'll have skin like that too if I learn to do make up. But now that I'm trying to practice make up, I initially had fun but later on, it turned into a negative experience because of my unrealistic expectations of it. No matter what I do, I can't get the perfect skin but seeing this video really helped me and placed my perspective in the right place. Perhaps I was just too hard on myself. Thank you for making me realize that my relationship with make up should be healthy by first viewing its purpose & limitations in a healthy way. I'm VERY grateful that you showed a very zoomed in video of your face in which your natural skin can be seen. Thank you for being down to earth and for reminding me that my skin is like this simply because i'm a real human being in real life and not a very scripted character presented online. i'm not bashing the latter tho, i'm just saying that it is not real. Thank you so much!!!!! subscribed!!!!!
This video is *so* important! Thank you 🙏🏼
Jessica, I really gotta take this minute to thank you. From the bottom of my heart I'm so thankful I found you two years ago. You were one of the people online that helped me with in the journey of getting rid of toxic online influences and start the journey to change the way I perceive myself, learning to be kinder to me, to understand and love my flaws and eventually, to construct my self esteem. This video made me tear up remembering how rough I would be on myself (and sometimes still am cause this is never stable for anyone) for not looking like social media tells me its acceptable, but seeing you, a woman I find sooo gorgeous having the same skin that I do and showing herself so vulnerably and free keeps me from falling into the Instagram role. You helped to start loving myself as I am. You are a true breathe of fresh air, hope you never stop creating valuable content like this. Obrigada ❤️
back then i feel like im wearing a mask when i used to wear concealer to cover up acne scars but now i feel more confident with my texture whenever i wear some
Just subbed because whoa it takes guts to be this vulnerable on the web. It's even sad that being vulnerable and put out our real self on the internet can get so freaking scary. Here's to being real and be our own authentic self. Thank you girl, for being you. You are gorgeous in and out.
i will always love her for being so true to herself and therefore inspiring other girls too ❤
I am new to makeup world and when I started wearing makeup after watching tutorials online..it was completely different to what I have seen in video like especially when it comes to face palettes, eye shadow and the concealer/eye primer around eyes....when I first wore them I was like what the hell is this on my face?...I never knew that's what the makeup looks like...I always blamed my choice of face palette or eye shadow or my concealer brand and my poor skills...infact even today morning I did my makeup twice...this video made me realize everyone's makeup looks same I mean the texture with pores on skin. Thank you for this video
And to all the ladies out there...no matter how you prefer your look with makeup/without makeup....be confident cuz you are beautiful the way you are
you are one of a kind
Honestly, this is such an inspirational and positive video. I feel so much more confident to start using makeup😭 thank you 😭
I cried. I don't know why this made me so emotional and grateful for your transparency. Love ❤️
Try using a damp sponge and mix one puff of full coverage foundation and one puff of dewy foundation. Mix them and warm it up on your Palm or back of your hand. Dot it on your face and blend it with a wet sponge. Apply concealer on the inner and outer corner of your eye and blend till you can't anymore.IT IS AMAZING LOOKS LIKE A FILTER.

I just ran across your channel, and I am hooked! You are soooo beautiful with or without makeup, and I love how honest and raw you are! As I get older the more I am into skin care rather than makeup. The natural look is sooo much more beautiful to me and being a mom of 3 and 2 bonus kids I don't have much time. This really needs to be more normalized
Well i wish my skin and my makeup looked like yours , but noooope still this is too perfect for me .
I think more people need to see this right now.
Because the industry has given a lot of teenagers (and everyone else) the complex about how they look.
You are doing a great job. Please don't stop.
Thank you for the reminder!❤️
Thank you for this. I remember being in my teens and getting really upset that foundation didn't look good on my textured skin in comparison to what I saw on youtube... using the same products as the youtuber. I even remember specifically missing school because of how bad foundation looked on my skin.
I wish I had this back then, as a realistic reminder that foundation could never mimic real skin. It was a reality hidden from us with the preconceived notion that foundation will cover all our flaws, from the inside out, pushed by beauty gurus.
Honestly thank you for this video! I always get so frustrated because I can never seem to get my makeup as flawless as I see it on all the tutorials and it really bothers me and makes me feel so incompetent. Sometimes it looks too cakey, too textured and also I have yet to find an actual match too my skin tone and I spend so much time and money but feel like I failed when it’s actually not me 🥲
Same!! I really can't find a foundation for my skin tone its either too yellow or too pink. What I do is mix two foundations that are close to my skin colour and it seems to work for me.
hello! i'm a skincare youtuber trying to normalize texture and acne issues and skin positivity and this was refreshing to watch! I always talk about how the camera picks things up differently and to be that up close helps the viewer grasp the reality of skin, skin texture, and makeup. thankyou for this! also your voice is rather soothing! subscribed!
This really made me feel better about my skin. I've been comparing my skin to the people on social media but I forgot to factor in lighting and filters.
I would always feel like I wasn't good at doing my makeup n feel so discouraged bc I wld feel like everyone's makeup looked so flawless thank you for being so open
tip: use a beauty blender or makeup sponges to apply things like foundation and concealer instead of brushes, which gives it a more natural look and less caky!
0:29 I just finished doing my skincare routine and noticed how different it looks without any concealer, bb creams or cc creams.
Honestly it does sometimes makes me think why can't my skin just look perfect.....but if it was then it would have made me look more like a robot rather than a human.
So just embrace the skin we are born with🥰❣🌸
PEOPLE LIKE YOU SHOULD POST ON SOCIAL MEDIA MORE BECAUSE IT SPREADS POSITIVITY UNLIKE THE OTHERS WHO ARE JUST FULL TOXIC STUFF
Or maybe you should only allow yourself to see the positivity on social media?
You still look great without filters that so many makeup bloggers don't look even with filters on.
Finally someone that shows skin. Girls look like they're wearing filters in videos.
I recently started to have more spots and marks than usual, and so I was looking for that high coverage yet skin-like foundation (which doesn't exist). But I realise makeup cannot fully hide that - and if it does, it looks cakey (which is something i personally dont like). I really appreciate that you chose to show your skin looking like skin! It doesn't have to look perfect because in real life no one's skin is perfect.
Such a great message! This is why I love following you!
Thank you for being real. I think you are beautiful and as a person who have been struggling with ACNE for 12 years now this video really made me feel more ''normal''. Lately I've decided to wear less makeup cause in the end foundation will never actually cover my scars or blemishes and even if it feels I'm more ''exposed'' in reality I think I just look prettier and more natural.
Working on my confidence :)

I come back to this video (and many others of yours) so often when I’m feeling insecure about my skin. I think makeup is fun, and I love watching people apply it (it’s soothing, for some reason!) but I’ve been getting caught up in comparison. I’ve been struggling with acne like you, and I so admire your confidence. I’m trying my hardest to clear my skin, because I want to be sure it’s not a result of something bad I’m putting on it or in my body, but I don’t want it to affect the way I see myself anymore. You are beautiful not despite your acne or because of it, Jessica-you just ARE beautiful. And if I can see that in someone else, I can see it in myself, too. So thank for this message and others like it, they’ve helped me a lot! 🙏🏼❤️
We are skin twins. We even have pimples on the same parts of our faces 😅.
It's so nice to hear a makeup tutorial where the voiceover is so eloquent and concise
funny how i got an add of “ facetune “ in the middle of this video 💀😭
This is the first time i've seen a youtube makeup person this grounded and with this much common sense. It drives me wild when people doing makeup videos have skin filters - what's the actual point of these 'gurus'?! - nobody can press their third rib and initiate a skin filter and walk round like that. You're giving a great message to young girls that it's actually ok to be in their own skin. The standards girls are expected to maintain these days on and off screen is ridiculous I'm so grateful I was a badly acned teenager before social media was a thing and now i'm just a hormonally spotty thirty+ who really doesn't give a toss any more. Not sure why this came up in my recommendeds but i'm glad it did. Keep it real and keep it up!
I thought the title was "what makeup really looks like in PRISON" lmao what
Somehow this feels completely new. What a breath of fresh air. Please do more like this!
I've changed for the past recent years, to actually preferring the way my natural texturized skin looks. I have oily skin and pimples that I used to struggled with before, but nowadays I find myself skipping foundation and concealer altogether because I feel the blemished version _looks better_.
Suddenly, for some reason, every one want to "keep it real" What happend in the beginning of human race... I guess that wasn't a word.. Silly me.
I'm not sure why, but this video make me cry. I have SEVERE self esteem issues, to the point where it physically effects me. Acne, "textured" skin, scarring, etc. I thought it was normal for your skin to look all airbrushed, and I thought my skin was unhealthy because it had normal texture. me and the girl in the video have very similar skin types/problems, and it's very comforting to see someone else, a NORMAL PERSON in makeup. Thank you so much, seriously. I love these videos. ❤
Proof that skin still looks great without filters! Natural never equals ugly.
Thank you. I'm a beginner make up and I just always thought I couldn't do make up since it didn't look like the photos online. I'm learning to accept that makeup will never look like skin. Thank youu 😄
This was a comfort to see, honestly. As a 24 year old who just never got into makeup, my attempts over the years always felt like failures since what I did never stacked up to the makeup gurus I was trying to learn from, having imperfections and being able to clearly see I was wearing makeup. I like a pretty natural look to begin with, but seeing how it isn’t always and doesn’t have to be a photoshop finish is a relief. I’m happy to say that next time I whip out that random makeup pallet, I’ll have more reasonable expectations, especially having 0 practice. Thank you for shining a light on this! 🤗
I just stumbled across your channel and I just want to say thank you so much 💛 lately I have stopped clicking selfies or looking at the mirror because my otherwise clear skin has started to break out in the areas which are covered with a mask and Instagram just makes me feel ugly! But thank you for telling me the truth and putting this out there. You're wonderful and so beautiful ❤️ stay safe and take care ❤️
Wow i'm really thankful for explaining how make-up and skin REALLY looks like. I've been thinking many times why on photos on social media everyone looks that good and flawless but not me and now you made me aware that everyone have their own flaws and make-up doesnt look perfect like it would be the real skin. Geez I feel so enlighten

Props to you for making this 😊 I myself don't mind makeup but I find too many people feel ashamed of how they actually look and go overboard with their makeup.
